| Mugs for the Camera |

When we were little tykes, playing in our playpens and smashing our toys together to symbolize violence, our little mommy’s and our little daddy’s imparted some important wisdom. They told us, “little future Dish writer, never be ugly. Never.”
We took that to heart. We sought out to learn the finest dance moves and tanned every December, missing even Christmas and time spent with family to reach a perfect golden crisp. We avoided trans fats like the plague and (allegedly) sacrificed a small, endangered fowl in the Black Forest of Germany.
Now look at us (if you only could). We’re beautiful dammit. So we were slightly appalled by this New York based ugly talent agency that caters to the non-attractive. The agency books gigs for actors and performers who don’t look good.
We had some serious trepidation, at first, about going onto their site. We have a quick gag reflex after all. But then we started perusing the talent. These people aren’t all ugly. In fact, some of them are kinda hot. Okay, really hot.
So what gives? We spend the better part of our lives taking afternoon showers in milk honey and then these false advertisements for a freak show actually get work based off of who they think they are?
And it doesn’t stop there! VH1 plans to base a reality series on this phenomenon of ugly people. “America the Ugly” is reportedly inspired by ABC hit “Ugly Betty” and will follow the lives of several unattractive women as they enter the glamor packed world of high fashion and modeling.
So "ugly" is the buzz word of the season. Just don't tell that to every major magazine publication, web site, motion picture studio, television show, recording label, hooters franchise, blog, advertisement office, music video outlet, casting agent, Broadway producer, and political advisory board.

Many people who are ugly on the inside get ahead, get noticed, make a fortune, rise to the top, become famous. The next logical step is to honor people who are "not so pretty" on the outside. We may find, once we get to know them, that they are really beautiful people, not just what Hollywood thinks everyone should look like. Skinny, plastic, chemically enhanced is NOT everybodys ideal. Looks fade, real beauty lasts a lifetime.
