| A Bulldog Day Afternoon |

Last night's episode of Top Chef presented the remaining seven chefs with a bevy of obstacles -- tight budgets, tight quarters, and, er, possible motion sickness. While the chefs -- yes, even Howie -- showed that they can work together, the results just weren't good enough for the judges. And Howie goes home. (Is that sweat or a tear streaming down your face?)
Check out all the yacht cooking action here.
Also, we have a feeling Sara M.'s canape recipe is going to be pretty popular. So, if you want the recipe (just us?) and all of the other recipes from last night's Elimination Challenge, check them out here.

Why exactly is Padma on this show? Did she try out for Project Runway and not make it? Why not have Rachel Ray judge this season of PR, since you don't need any culinary background to be a judge on TC...
Who cares!! Tre is gone and the remaining cooks suck!!
What a joke this show is....Howie should have been gone last episode, not Tre! The idiots that are still competing are a joke....I can't wait till this season is over and I hope they cancel this poor excuse for a show!
I'll Never Watch Top Chef Again afer Lat Night.
Howie was Abrasive but Direct ... he lives by a "CODE" that all Stand-Up Men live-by. You may not like him, you may not like his personality or style but you have to respect that he speaks his mind.
In any competition, (Academicic, Sports, Music, Art) the individual always has the right to withdraw for whatever reasons.
Howie clearly felt that something wasn't fair about Top Chef and that "Pesonal Code" of his kicked in and he wanted to withdraw. Instead of allowing him to retain his diginity and allow him to withdraw from the competition because of the pressure or for other reasons, the judges said "no, this is our decision not yours." In the end however, the judges showed us all that "stand-up guys" are always still left Standing because it was the judges that fell flat on their faces ... and you lost another viewe.
Last night's guest judge apparently doesn't like new and different things. Hung's quick fire should have been chosen because it was beautiful looking and totally unique. Chef Schwartz is a real boor.
Hey! Is Bravo going to post Brian's winning quick fire challenge recipe. He nailed it with the Spam and Hash, who would have thought that would win. I think this season is by far the worst and Top Chef is my favorite show. I don't think the remaining contestants have have much talent as Tre did, he should have never went home. How about CJ what is he still doing there??? Top Chef needs to figure it out, because this show is going down hill, and I don't want to see it canceled!!!
I enjoed, the show until. the judges, decided to do, something stupid, which caused Tre, to be eliminated. Brian, Casey, Howie, should have been gone along time ago. the chioce the judges made in keeping two of the worse, chiefs, after the restuarant wars, and elimiate Tre, was unheard of, that, mistake, the judges made could have keep, Tre, the one who could work the floor, as well, as cook, cost him another week on the show. My co-workers, and I will no longer look at the show. HELL'S KITCHEN, now has the better show.
wow, this show has everybody saying thia ans that. but you know you will all be watching next week because you LOVE IT. You know you do. I think they should have kept Tre but things happen to keep it compelling. get over it and keep watching. OHH hey padma is hot. you liitle b!#$chs.
I was surprised to find I will miss Howie. He grows on you. As for the others, I think we can expect some amazing things from the rest of the chefs because they all excel in different ways. I'm leaning toward Sara because she shows great creativity as well the ability to run a full kitchen - a quality all the other chefs seem to lack the gutz to do. They all want to make nice when they lead instead of choosing to prioritize the overall goal. Howie was right, this isnt about making friends, this is a competition. If someone in there doesnt think of you as a friend if you need to run a tighter kitchen then they don't understand the meaning of teamwork and need to leave. These people will run restaurants one day. What if one of these people ran the catering to your wedding or special event? Would you understand the poo on a cracker thing that Howie was allowed to send out? Howie got mad at Sara when she barked orders, but ultimately she got the job done and done right. Even Howie had to respect that. I liked his bottom line ways. But he does need to work on his how he mixes up his menu, its often way too heavy. I think he learned a lot and will be a great chef one day. I think a lot of people hope Tre gets his own show.
I have watched all seasons of Top Chef, and yes, like many others, I was appalled at the judges decision to oust Tre. He is by far the most talented of the group. I feel in all fairness that this season, although, touted as the toughest competion by far, has been with the least creative chef talent. There is not one remaining Chef that I would consider "the cream of the crop". Most dishes have been boring and unimaginative. I think if I hear the terms "ceviche, reduction, or mousse" one more time I will scream. I agree with another blogger that the guest judges talents are very irratic. Get some guest judges that the public can relate to Paula Dean, Rachel Ray, Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse. Most of all America wants to be able to recreate what they see and a lot of the palatiable food isnt for the people who satisfy the ratings. I will continue to watch Top Chef because I love food. I love the whole creation process. I think that the concept is a positive reinforcement for people to strive to a creative outlet. I think that Bravo's producers should be mindful of those that are actually watching. the plain american public who adores the creativity and magic that a show like this provides to those of us who only dream of such adventures.
I enjoyed the last two seasons of "Top Chef." This season has been askew from nearly the start. Howie leaving was the last straw! Not only was he a talented chef and incredibly entertaining, but Howie and Tre had more knowledge and skill than all but one remaining chef. I, too, question why Padma is a judge and the spokesperson on this show. Her looks are a plus, sure, but I would prefer someone whose culinary expertise rose to the surface. You have lost another viewer ... forever. And, since I am a professor of television arts, I know a little something about which I speak.
Why is Brian still on the show? He was a very poor leader. The food was barely average and he encouraged the other chefs to make stupid choices. Yet Tre was "sent packing " for that very reason last week. Hmmm.......
Very disappointed in the show for the last few weeks. I became a viewer last season and was looking forward to Season 3. I'm not a chef and enjoy watching all that goes on from the quickfire challenge through the finished product. This season, however, I feel that the judging is getting more snarky and rude as the season goes on. The judges last night were the worst yet. It seems as if Bravo has forgotten what set their show apart from the typical reality shows. This show has (or had) a lot more class and was still entertaining to watch. I have to wonder if the show will be nominated for emmys next year? One of the previous bloggers mentioned bringing on judges that viewers might be familiar with. Why not try it? It certainly can't hurt; I hope Bravo pays attention to viewer comments, after all it does come down to ratings and in reading the other postings it sounds like a lot of viewer are disappointed with the direction the show seems to be heading.
damn. i can't believe brian is still around 2 times he's been on the chopping block for poor leadership. come on judges. and in the quickfire hungh to me had the best lookin dish. and howie i give praise but i disagree that he stepped down. and how dare the judges say it's our choice. b.s last 2 episodes when chefs stepped down the honored it.
As much as people complain about the wrong person being sent packing, the bottom line is someone has to go. Remember people, we can only see and hear the description of the dishes not taste them. Just because something looks and sounds good does not mean it will taste good. I have on occasion ordered a dish because of the ingredients used only to be disappointed upon tasting the finished product as I'm sure other people have. Part of being a great chef is coming out of your comfort zone and trying something new. Sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't make any contestant a bad chef, but it does show their weaknesses. To be a great chef you must always be honing your skills. That is what this show is all about. Just what kind of skills do the contestants have to deserve to be Top Chef. Are they consistently at the top of their game or are they one hit wonders.
It's about time Howie was eliminated. Now if Tre could just be brought back it would be perfect!
I was really dissapointed to see Tre get the boot. It seems that CJ has really gotten good at passing the buck and escaping elimination. Howie is a good chef, but he probably should have gone three or four episodes ago. Hung's ego is going to be his greatest challenge, I could have taken a chainsaw and cut those chickens with as much accuracy as he did. But enough derrogatory comments, I enjoy the show and only wish that you put on the best chef's and not the best looking ones. The best chefs that I know are really great but not so prettyto look at. (ok one more derrogatory comment) The show is entertaining, and as a former restraunt employee, I really enjoy seeing the contestants come up with new recipes to impress the judges. Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching>
Don't any of these bloggers know how to spell or write? Or type? It's hard to take someone seriously when they send a message that mangles the English language so badly that you have to wonder if they've ever taken a language arts class. (Except the television arts professor. Thank you, ma'am, for a nicely written commentary.) I agree that this season's contestants are a bit "underwhelming." So, when does Project Runway begin again?
Just wondring why chfs don't wash hands. (sorry "" ky not working) Also, no hats = and dripping swat. This is not making m hungry.
What a travesty that the same reasons Brian failed at Wednesday's challenge was not compelling enough to get him kicked off but was enough for Tre??? Jose Felliciano can see that these judges (Ego Colicchio) seem to be concerned with matters that have nothing to do with Chefs proving themselves time after time. Why didn't Casey get sent home instead of Tre? She was the reason they lost the challenge--come on people--she couldn't chop onions!!! Top Chef should change their name--What about "How to Lose Your Viewers to Hell's Kitchen"!
Howie should have been gone long ago. Tre clearly is more talented than Howie. Why Tre was eliminated is a mystery to me. He won a lot of the challenges. He didn't make nearly as many mistakes as Howie and even Casey who I still can't believe is there. She may be nice to look at but she is no super model to keep her around for those reasons. CJ should have been eliminated instead of Tre, he was the leader. Lia is more talented than Casey yet one tiny mistake and she is eliminated. Casey who isn't very fast with a knife made tons more mistakes than Lia. This season of Top Chef is totally disappointing and just below standards. I would like to see chef Tom suceed at some of the challenges he has employed on the contestents.
I think Hung REALLY needs to go. He is arrogant and for someone who claims to have more in his repertoire but keeps
doing putting out ugly & nasty looking food.
Is it me or are they dragging this season out by filling with garbage made up from previous seasons? I really do love Top Chef and looked forward to season 3 but it's been a disappointment at best. CJ I love you no matter what anybody says.....
I would love to see the "Cheftestants" be able to be the creative Top Chefs they want to be so stop giving them rediculous time contraints, no money, and an unfair playing field (the market aisles were so unbalanced)and allow them to be the Top Chefs they want to be and then judge them. I always wondered what Padma's credentials were that allowed her to be a judge, but this is the first week I where I thought ok who do you think you are. The way she spoke to Howie was disgraceful. I will miss Howie and his bulldog goofy smile when he did something good.
I want my Tre' back. I was devastated watching him go, I think I shed a tear. But the yacht show just made it more and more clear that I miss him. I know the other team did better for the restaurant show but what is Casey still doing there. She just got her first win. CJ is hit or miss, and Howie was always miss never hit. I like Dale even though he's obsessed with the sunny side up egg. I'll watch till the end and the next season as well. I just hope Tre' can get a deal like Leeanne. He's too good to loose. I think the finals should have been Hung and Tre'.
i think that brian should have went home not howie
Ithought that Howie was a good cook, but not as good as Tre.I also thought that Brian should have went home.He took over as a leader and let the team down.We all no that it is a compertion, and it can only be one winner, but they let the winner go last week, and that was Tre.
To whoever thought Padma was a reject model from Project Runway - she's authored several books on cooking (not to mention, she's fairly brainy...the former wife of Pulitzer Prize-winning British author Salman Rushdie. Pretty doesn't always mean stupid or unqualified.
