George Carlin, 1937-2008

June 23, 2008

Meh. Honestly, Bravotv.com readers, it's a little dark around The Dish offices this morning after hearing the news that legendary comedian George Carlin passed away yesterday.

Probably best known for his "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television," which we, um, can't say on this Web site, Carlin's no-holds-barred routines had a direct effect on many comics today, and we can only guess our very own Kathy Griffin.

Carlin was 71 years old.

You can watch James Lipton's interview with Carlin on Inside the Actors Studio TONIGHT at 7/6c. You can also catch it tomorrow at 2 a.m./1c, THU at 3 a.m./2c, and SAT at 11 a.m./10 c.

George Carlin was a funny and a controversial comedian he will be surely missed. His views probably you did not agree with them but we can agree on the fact he got you to think.

I know there's a party in Heaven tonight! George, we lowly earthlings are really gonna miss that glorious mind. You could've lived 171 years and we'd still ache for more. I wonder what you'd say if you could hear all the fuss about you right now. Tonight, I dedicate tomorrow's hangover to you. One last thing....$#%^$# here's to you!!!!!!!!!!

It is an immeasurable loss.

The world will laugh just a little bit less.

I'm soooo upset- George makes me feel young!- I actually bought that album, Class Clown, that had the 7 words u can't say on TV included on it. My fav bit was when he talked about growing up in Cath. school in Kinarsey(?),Bklyn-being from the Bronx I can relate- "hey father, did God ever create a rock so big, he himself couldn't move it?"....& in confession, thinking about feelin' up Mary- mult. sins there....but it's ok says George, the priest gives him his penance: "tres Santa Marias & you're back on the street w/ Fr. Rivera!".... what beats that, I ask you????

I can honestly say that I have bee listening to George Carlin's comedy albums and waching his HBO stand up specials my ENTIRE life. all 32 years. by the time I was 5 I could recite word for word the entire class clown album. He has honestly helped shaped my sense of humor and not to mention socail conscience at times. My brother had the pleasure of seeing him live twice and had just purchased tickets for his upcoming show this sumer. He also had the pleasure of cooking his breakfast asa line cook at a hotel on Cape Cod recieving a hand written tahnk you note. In our family especially he will forever severly missed!

George, I have listened to your comedic genius all my life. From Al Sleep to Willy West to Scott Lame you have been the comedic soundtrack of my life. We of the simple species are in mourning, but there must be one helluva partyin heaven tonight. I am sure Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, Lenny Bruce, and Rodney Dangerfield were at the gates waiting for you. George remember the people you can do without: guys in their 50s named skip, any pimp whodrives a toyota carolla and any waiters who have infections on their serving hands. Hope you have all your stuff and I hope you got back everything you ever lost. Cheers! Uncle frosty

I agree with all, that George Carlin was one of a kind. I introduced him to my 3 kids and they loved him. I can't imagine not seeing any more new concerts with him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him

  1. Keep it clean. You're a Bravo fan, you know better words than most TV audiences.
