I Dream of JeAnne

Before you read below, we wanted you to know that you can also check out Tim’s podcast on his work with JeAnne here. And now, back to your regularly scheduled Gunn:

tim_103_01_320x240.jpg

JeAnne had spent most of her life weighing in excess of 300 lbs. At the time of our meeting, she had lost close to 150 lbs, but was still weight challenged. Fashion had never been part of JeAnne’s vocabulary, because at her larger size, it eluded her. With her new-found size and shape, she was ready to address her new figure. Her entire perception of herself had been altered and, accordingly, she was at a loss for how to begin. I anticipated that there would be a great deal of emotion during our journey and, indeed, that was true for all of us.

I’ll say this about the difference between clothes and fashion. We need clothes, but we don’t need fashion. By that, I mean there are basic items that we need to wear in order to navigate the world with dignity, but those items can be merely what I call “dumb clothes:” a plain-vanilla t-shirt and jeans, for example. Fashion reaches beyond those basics. The best of fashion is a true barometric gauge of our society and culture. That’s why fashion changes and clothes don’t.

My final comment..... Carry on!!!

Tonite's episode was absolute food for the soul. Bless you Tim and all your fabulous friends for affirming the dignity and beauty of this fuller figured woman. In our world obsessed with physical perfection and celebrity, the transfomation to JeAnne was a truly heart-warming validation for what can be achieved by those of us that are not ordinarily part of the glamorous world of fashion with some compassonate guidance from the experts and a measure of self-belief. Thank you.

Tim,

I LOVE your show! I love you on Project Runway, and you are shining on this show. The fantastic thing about it is that you let these women find their own wardrobe selections that build up their own sense of style without telling them what to wear. It's a very fine line that you walk with poise and you somehow find a way to nurture your charges even through some of your 'visceral' reactions to their fashion-challenged choices. I would like to see even more of your instruction through the virtual simulation system. Bravo to Bravo on giving you your own show. More, more, more!

Hi Tim!

I just finished watching the show and I had to jump on your blog to compliment you on your down-to-earthness (is that a word?).

Your ability to empathize and identify with women from every walk of life is amazing. There was a show you did for Project Runway that first showed these qualities; I think it was called "Everyday Woman." Real women (like me) truly do have the belief that they cannot wear designer clothing and that every designer looks down on us because we're not size zeroes. Your work on both PR and Guide to Style have shown that's just not true!

It is obvious that you have a passion for fashion, but not just because it's beautiful... but that you believe that everyone can have it!

Thank you, Tim. You are a sweet, inspiring, funny, and generous man. Rasha in MN

It is refreshing to see a fashion expert like Tim address the needs of the "pleasantly plump" woman. Selections tend to be limited, so it's great to have a few guidelines to work with.

I think JeAnne looked fabulous! Excellent work!

I would like to see a list of the products and stores featured in this episode, especially foundation garments selected for her. I see makeup and hair products mentioned in other pages, but not the clothing items purchased. Is there a plan to add that in a link?
Loved the show and the results.

Susan wrote:

JeAnne is so beautiful! Great work.

Just a comment about the throw-away pile: I don't know about in New York, but where I live there's a charity that takes old clothing and uses it to make quilts for the homeless. That would be a better idea than throwing stuff away, if it's an option.

Dear Tim,

First I would like to say I am a big fan. You are the definition of class. Second, I loved that you addressed women's undergarments in the last episode (biggerbras.com is awesome). Third, I would like to ask you to expand on your classic white shirt. The last two women on your show were very well proportioned so that their button down shirts didn't gap, but the shirts didn't hang on them like tents either. If one happens to be less well porpotioned, in fact really top heavy, how do you find a nice button down shirt that isn't a peep show but doesn't hang off of you like you are either in maternity wear or you robbed a circus?

Your fan,
Cass

I'm so pleased that you aren't restricting your makeover candidates to women who are stick-thin anorexic models, Tim. JeAnne is a lovely, lovely woman. When she came out that door for her fashion show, my boyfriend and I looked at each other and said "Mariska Hargitay!" (That's a compliment - we think Mariska's gorgeous too!)

The purveyors of big-woman clothing shops do big women no favors by using frightening prints and bad cuts. It's a crime that women who are larger have to settle for clothes that look like they were made by Omar the Tentmaker. I'm so pleased for JeAnne that she was able to escape that horrible large-woman fashion hell - she looks great, and she didn't have to turn herself into a stick-thin waif to do it!

Tim, my daughters introduced me to Project Runway a year or so ago. We all loved seeing the clothes, but we agreed that you were our favorite part of the show. Now there is your new show, which is the only one on television I make a special point of watching. Really. It's the combination of your wonderful judgement and expertise at work, combined with compassion and such thoughtfulness to the women you're helping. And of course, you are very funny sometimes. Bravo, Tim!

Hello Tim,
First of all, my gf and I love your show. I enjoyed the past 2 episodes. As for tonight's episodes, it is nice to have a plus sized woman featured in the show. Her weight loss achivement is truly inspiring. Anyway, when it comes to the 4 piles, do you suggest throwing out clothes that you hope you'll fit in after weightloss? Should we just giveaway those clothes, purchase clothes that fit us right now and just replace them again when we achieve our weightloss goal? Just need some advice in that department.

I just love this new show of Tim Gunn's! He portraits an amazing person! He's talented, smart, funny, adorable, knowledgeable about fashion, and he seems to truely genuinely care for the person he is helping. JeAnne transformed into an amazing looking person with her new fashion tips. She looked so cute at her finale in her new designer dress. I take Tim's tips and try to put it into my daily life. Not much to work with in my closet by any means, but I try with what I have. :-) It's not only a fun show to watch, but I learn lots of neat ideas. Tim makes people feel good about themselevs even from just watching him on TV. Keep up the good work on making others lives a little happier, and fashionable!! Love you Tim!

JeAnne's story was very inspiring for me. Last October I was diagnosed with Chron's disease, and had to be on steroid medication for about 5 months. As a result of the steroids I gained about 45 lbs in that time period. Needless to say, clothes shopping has become very depressing for me and I often leave the store crying. I'm having a lot of trouble ajusting to my new size while I'm trying to lose the weight, and it was very nice to see how to fit a "plus-size" body with style!

I am very proud of JeAnne and all of the hard work she has done to lose so much weight! She gives me hope that I can lose this extra weight too.

Also, thank you Tim for showing me that it's possible to look amazing, no matter what size I may be!

I thought you were going to lose JeAnne at the underwear drawer -- and I certainly understand her hesitation. But WOW, weren't the end results worth it? She looked fantastic, and you could tell she felt it through & through.
Great job.

In this episode, once again, the foundation played a starring role in transformation. It was touch and go there for a few moments when I wondered if you would be able to prove its importance to Jeanne. I can imagine my own reaction if someone asked to see my lingerie drawer, but it does play an integral role in a woman's presentation. So many women are completely oblivious to this fact. I am so glad that Jeanne finally yielded to the suggestion. I also wanted to say that Jeanne's cut and color by Rene were absolutely stunning. Jeanne truly looked like a new person during her reveal. Great job to all. "Carry on."

It would be so useful to "watchers" of programs of the Tim Gunn type is there was some sort of an interactive tool to do this on our own at home. Since the majority of people do not get the advantage of being on TV and getting the services first hand, it would be so helpful to the rest of us.

Rena Wilhelm wrote:

okay, How cute is JeAnne? What a face! and did she rock that body out or what? I really love the focus on the right undergarments. Despite an emotional reaction to the idea of Veronica going through her underwear drawer (and hey, i would be in tears too) to see her comfort & confidence after the right "foundation" really shows how important it is to have the right undergarments. You can't feel fabulous in clothes if you are not starting with fabulous fitting bras.

Moving on...the 1st WOW factor for me was the haircut & makeup. I actually gasped. She looked just like actress Genevieve Bujold. I am so happy for JeAnne...she owns her new look & she looks absolutely fabulous.

Meanwhile, I just recieved my copy of Tim Gunn's book & I can not wait to open it. I am one of those gals who has put on weight over the years and can not see spending clothes on a size that isn't "me". The reality is that this larger size has in fact been "me" for more than a few years, but because I can't seem to accept it, I don't dress appropriate for it...hence such words as the newly coined "schlubby" are kind of accurate for my "look" for lack of a better word. So I am stuck in a rut of bad choices, absolutely no enthusiam, & depressing episodes in dressing rooms. I find myself not wanting to do my hair, or makeup...meanwhile I used to be a makeup representative. What's worse...Tim don't gasp in horror, I am an Interior Designer who walks around in jeans & a T-shirt. My look does not match my career. I can dress up client's homes, but I can't dress myself. What's that all about?? I am hoping that Tim Gunn's book inspires me to dress appropriately no matter what size I am & bring some of that confidence back when I was a smaller size.

Tim,

I have to admit that when I first saw the ad for your new show, I just sighed, "Another one . . ." But, I happened upon your first episode by chance as I was flipping through the channels. I must say that I am very pleased that, in my opinion, there was nothing worth while on other channels to watch and thought, why not give this new show a try. Once again, the Universe has brought to me another lesson of not being so judegemental. I was so pleased with your show. It was a combination of academics, fashion, and compassion - very refreshing. It was not just another show of flamboyancy. You truly are a class-act. Not only do I plan to continue watching, but I have told a number of my clients about your show. I have even written down, and affixed to my mirror, a phrase that was offered by your life-coach, "You cannot control how you are preceived. You can only contol how you are presented."

Bless your heart, Tim. I wish you continued success.

JeAnne was a very likeable person and her transformation was great, but no matter what she wore, all I could see were her tattoos. Tim Gunn talks about American getting sloppy, but how about America getting inked? There's no way that a great work outfit or a dressy look go with ink on your skin. I'm not against people doing what they want with markings on their bodies and you see a lot of ink on waitresses at beach bars, but tattoos never look professional, grown-up or stylish.

I have to admit, at first I thought Tim Gunn's program was " just another fashion show to make every woman feel fat and ugly". Not so. I am impressed with his compassion for the average woman, and making her feel good about herself in an everyday world. His fashion advice is unquestionable. Good solid basics for building changing an otherwise ordinary look into a fashion statement.

Everyone on TimTeam last night was supportive and not nice. There were some moments when serious suggestions had to be made and critiques were necessary, but TeamTim carried through this assignment not in a catty or mean way but with style and grace. It was so refreshing to see a show about beautifully dressing a plus-sized woman! I especially loved watching the runway coaching. I too have lost a substantial amount of weight the last few years (about 50 pounds) and it is still so hard to look at myself as anything other than “the fat girl.” Watching Jeanne learn to walk the runway helped remind me that 50% of our appearance is all about confidence. Today I am practicing walking with my head held high and to the beat of my own runway song! Thank you Tim and Veronica for affirming to plus-sized women everywhere that we can be beautiful at any size!

For both Tim and Vornica,
With any "make over" show we know that the person will come out looking better than when they when in. That being a given, the aspect of the show that sticks with me most is the Coaching, compassion and empathy you showed for JeAnne. You coach and not berate, you are never mean (I know mean is easy and sells) and you really seem to enjoy what you are doing. I really like the idea that you chose a big gal and not just more slender easier fitting type. You did the mechanics of a fit that we haven't seen done and you let both ladies chose clothes that you aren't fond of but didn't offend the basics of style. If I had the nerve, I'd send you a video and ask for your help. Being just over 5 feet in both directions fit and style are always challenging. I know that I'd empty my undie drawer before you got there.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this show about real women and the number that we can do on ourselves! I think this show demonstrates on some level the connection between art and the self--and it plays out in the closet (and in the underwear drawer). In other words, how does Tim, whose background is in art/fashion and who lives in a world elusive to most of us small-towners, prompt women not only to upgrade their wardrobes, but also to upgrade their deeply-embedded self images? No wonder there are tears in every episode. This is the most intimate fare on television. Bravo Tim! Carry on...

I love the way Tim's sweet decency shines through in this show. No surprise, but it's lovely to see. Now that we've seen 3 episodes, some themes are emerging that offer up some food for thought. I've very much enjoyed each episode, but I can see where they are going to be getting a bit repetitive due to the basics (which are, of course, basic for a good reason!): 4 piles, list of 10 items every woman needs, 2 gifts, go through the underwear drawer, computerized shape (this is COOL and couldn't we see more of this, especially as it helps show what works and what doesn't?), requisite mugging by Tim and Veronica, etc. I wonder how many people watched last night and had no idea what was wrong with the black "special occasion" dress JeAnn put on from her closet. It's about flattering her new shape/silhouette, but we didn't really get that. I think the show can do a better job educating people to ways in which we need to work with our bodies. The computer thing seems an ideal way to show this. When things are NO's, tell us why. Why, for example, is this totally gorgeous dress not suitable for Ms. X. And maybe we can have less of "That's awful, that's horrible, ew throw it away, no no no." Tell us why. I know the program must be a huge editing challenge, but you have a real opportunity to do some educating here. Not everyone will get to the website, so I think you need to try to do more on TV. Tim has so many fans--let's give them the best he has to offer. And ditch the lifestyle guy with his supercilious smirk. Thanks for reading this!

However, after watching last week’s episode and the episode last night, I got hooked and inspired. Last night's episode really got to me because I too am a plus size woman. Not only that I am petite. For the longest, my closet mainly consisted of jeans, sweats and t-shirts. I do have a section that has a few clothes that are for church, but for the everyday ensemble, it was the aforementioned. Anyway, after last night and watching what you did for JeAnne, I am rethinking my closet and hope to achieve some where close of what you and Veronica achieved for JeAnne. Tim,
I was very much looking forward to seeing your new show and sadly missed the first episode but did see last nights. One problem I have is the underwear drawer issue. No one wants a public "panty raid". I absolutely think you should discuss foundation garments but don't think it is necessary to humiliate someone on TV this way.
One of the reasons I was so happy that you were doing a "makeover" show is that I knew it would be unlike all the others. No sensationalism, insults etc. Going through someone's underwear drawer on TV is embarrasing and I don't want to see it. I would just prefer seeing you or Veronica in a store showing us what is appropriate.
Other than that one issue, I was, as usual, very impressed by you. Respectful, sensitive, articulate and the right pinch of humor! I am looking forward to other episodes!
And for JeAnne, I am in awe of your weight loss, self discipline and openess to change!!!! You look fabulous!!!

Love the piece on JeAnne. I would suggest doing her teeth in exchange for the beautiful necklace or the couture gown. She is a lovely person in so many ways and I could tell she's had her teeth brightened but they are still bad teeth; gapping and misaligned. I would like to see some good cover-up on her tatoos (as mentioned in a blog) for special occasions pehaps.

I've lost 50 lbs recently, I'm 64, and working out at Gold's gym with my husband. It IS hard to dress a new body in a style that is appropriate for my size, age and lifestyle. It is difficult to find a great undergarment shop here (Idaho) or most places outside major fashion markets. Buying things like that on line is a reciepe for disaster. Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement via your heartwarming show.

I was expecting the show to be good. I was not expecting it to be amazing. But why am I surprised.

What I love about Bravo in general, and your show, and Queer Eye (which I mention because they share a similar sensibility) is that all of the changes you initiate, all of the temporary tortures your guests go through, come from a place of kindness. You want these people to improve themselves, but you guide them to it with delicacy and sensitivity. While shows like "What Not to Wear" bring the funny - often at the guest's expense - your show brings out the fabulousness of each of us.

I have the deepest admiration and respect for Tim Gunn. The makeovers are done in a very positive and sensitive manner. I have learned more in the first two episodes than I have on any other fashion design show. How does one apply to be on the show? Is it a possibility? Also, I would love to get a copy of Tim's list of the ten essential items one must have for a good foundation to create a classic wardrobe. Congratulations on having a gracious host and hostess on an informative and entertaining show.

No shock….. this show is amazing. I was especially anxious to see the transformation of JeAnne, a larger woman than those seen on the runways, one with a real challenge. Jeanne is to be applauded for her personal accomplishment... Bravo to her. She represents a young, vibrant, intelligent woman who needed to realize that her beauty and confidence comes from within and with the right “dressings” she could feel confident enough bear her soul to the world with pride. The transformation was remarkable.
I, unfortunately, am faced with the opposite problem. I am now a 50-year-old woman who over the years has gained weight and lost all sense of femininity and style. I suspect I am not the only woman who finds themselves in this place in their life.
After 34 years of smoking, hearing that I had emphysema, an old persons disease, only contributed to my feelings of “getting old”. I am happy to say that I quit smoking 11 months ago but this certainly did nothing to improve my weight problem. Happily I know it will improve my health. Seeing the transformation of JeAnne was educational and encouraging. My 1st stop will be to get some new undergarments. At 50, when in the confines of my own home, I secretly continue to feel my own sensuality seeping out, yet in public I make a conscious effort to fade into the woodwork. Please show women, who are in similar positions as I, that there is still hope for us. Educate us so that we want to let the person we once were shine through again. Teach us to dress age appropriate while being sexy, contemporary and classy.

Tim, you have pulled off yet another successful series for Bravo…don’t stop. I believe I represent the common, somewhat success woman, and I am grateful that you are sharing your fashion and style expertise.

Hi Tim Gunn,

I think you are fabulous on Project Runway (and your podcast!)and really was looking forward to this show, as I am also a big What Not to Wear fan. I watched it last week and this week. I think you're great and you have a good TV personality. But I feel like the rest of the show is working against you. Veronica only has okay chemistry with you and I really hate that hair guy, Rene. He was on Shear Genius and I stopped watching that show because he was so annoying. I don't think the hair and makeup people are doing such a great job either, and the life coach isn't doing it for me. Also, I feel like the people you are making over are not in *that* bad of shape, but you and Veronica act a bit like they have cooties. Either that, or you let them get away with picking just okay clothes. I get what you (or your editors/producers) are going for, but I think the show comes off as very "educational," and that's not why people watch TV after work. I can get the fashion lesson without it being spoonfed to me. Even after just 2 shows, I feel like I am being hit over the head with these fashion tips. In addition, at the end there is too much emotion and "affection" without a lot of lead-up.

I think the show is trying too hard to be not like What Not to Wear. I get where you want to be different, but I think it's heading the wrong direction. Take advantage of your personality and your Tim-ness, and don't hide it among all these rules and structure and other people. Also, I think you should concentrate more on the high-fashion part of this because that is clearly what you are interested in. The idea of helping high fashion appeal to the average person is an interesting one and I think that seems to be a TV niche for you. Stacy and Clinton are better at doing Macy's, but you can kick their butt in high fashion.

Best of luck and I will certainly be watching Project Runway!

Women attorney seeks business styling show!

I love the show. I have watched many other makeover shows (e.g., What Not to Wear), and I like this one best so far (though I have to say I love Nick and Carmondy on WNTW). I especially appreciate the warmth Tim Gunn shows to the women--it's so unusual in today's "reality" TV world.

I have a fashion dilemma that I think plagues a lot of women and that I think it would be wonderful to see your collective talents address: what should a professional woman wear under a business suit? I've seen shells, scarves, open button downs, mandarin collars, turtlenecks, etc. but I just can't seem to find something I think looks good and is appropriate for a conservative setting. The styling in most fashion magazines and catalogs is not suitable for professional contexts: too much skin, too sexy, too disheveled. I am an attorney, so I need a look that is polished, professional, conservative, authoritative, and appropriate, but I'd like to look nice too.

Help! Please do a show with a women executive or lawyer or other professional and show us some styling options!

Thanks for the show!

You and your show are inspirational. Already I've given away/tossed out 7 bad bras, 2 wrong dresses, 5 ill-fitting tops and 6 dreadful skirts. And whatever's left, I'm wearing like I own it!

I only wish designers would challenge themselves to make great clothes for larger-sized women. Why don't they? Is it that people who study fashion do so, in part, so they can see their designs on gorgeous tiny models? I wish you and your colleagues who train future designers could push them to create exquisite clothes for the rest of us. Tell them it's not about adding more fabric; it's about re-designing. Thank you again!

I liked this episide a lot better than the first. As many others have said, it's so great to see a Rubinesque woman as the makeover subject. And, Tim, I'm glad that you apparently took my advice from last week seriously, and got rid of the "life stylist." :) The runway coach was much better.

I felt sorry for JeAnne when she became so upset over the subject of underwear. But once she got new foundation garments the improvement was substantial ... so it was a very necessary step for her. I also was truly moved when she said, in Carmen Marc Valvo's studio, that this was one of the few times in her life she felt beautiful. I thought it was a much more touching and sincere moment than the somewhat manufactured drama in the premiere episode.

And, I LOVE Carmen Marc Valvo's designs so it was great to find out that in person, he is equally wonderful. Tim, I hope you continue to keep bringin' my favorite designers because so far you have delighted me with those you have featured.

JeAnne's transformation was amazing. She truly looked more confident, happy, and comfortable in her own skin. I hope to see more of this in episodes to come!

I have watched 2 episodes so far. Tim Gunn is the best in the "clothes for real people" wave because he is truly a bridge between high fashion and everyday life. He inspires confidence in the people he works with because he has complete knowledge while making clear the concepts with compassion and exactitude. He makes people feel good, both participants and observers, even as he takes you through the process, which is very important since the process needs time to carry out. The resulting show is not "instant" and he and Veronica get across both the caring and the lessons in a way that allows for lasting change, lasting learning. I react very positively to people who are exacting, even demanding, and at the same time, have a great deal of knowledge, of theory, of practice in real-time application of that knowledge-- all wrapped up in compassion.

The bra scene was rather interesting. According to the bra expert, the breasts should be lifted to position between the shoulder and elbow. However, you lost me when she went to the designer showroom and went braless in the halter gown which allowed her breasts to sag out of place. As a 36F I feel her pain. I am 39 and would never think of going braless. However, the advice on the show confused me. I want to know what the rule is on wearing a halter top - is it ok to let the breasts fall where they may? Perhaps large busts should not wear halter tops. Please advise.

Tim,
I just love your show, and since my size is more like JeAnne's size (her size today) I really appreciate the advice you gave her. It is painful to be overweight. It is even more painful when you give up on looking nice because overweight means dowdy for so many. I have never allowed myself to go that direction.

Today, thanks to you, I started the 4 pile sort and I included my underwear drawer, my pajama drawer, and other drawers where I kept clothes I wasn't using. Tomorrow, the closet gets it. I do this every once in awhile, so your advice on how to do it was helpful and supportive. I think I need to be harder on myself, though because there are still things in that closet that need tossing. Someone did ask about those clothes that you think you will fit back into. I have a leather mini skirt my husband bought me when I weighed 35 lbs less than I do now. I am now older, and as much as I want to keep it, I know I shouldn't. It's obviously a give-away pile item that I will send to the cancer society discovery story here in California. This is tough. What do you think about keeping favorites that we want to fit back in to?
Also, since I live in California, (The O.C.) I have very few opportunities to wear a trenchcoat. Are there women you worked with in your new show who come from Southern California, and how do you adjust the big ten to climate? Right now it looks like the top ten work best for big cities or the East Coast. Can you help us with the 10 garments while keeping weather in mind, and/or how much does it matter?

Karina Wright wrote:

I have always had, and always will have, a deep respect and admiration for you. That said, I will probably ot be watching your show again. I like that you are teaching these women the low-level basics of approaching their clothing choices and not just throwing them out on their own.

But, while most of the show feels like it respects your personality and values, some of it comes across as a little pandering. But then, I do know that it is necessary in the current television climate where taste and class is not necessarily enough to sustain viewers and advertisers.

And then, there are the blogs. Is "The Assistant" allowed to have his own opinions? Absolutely. Should he be allowed to voice them in a forum for a program which seems to have a different mindset than his...arguably, I guess, yes...it is his blog.

However, the combination of these two things, which taken seperately are annoying but ignoreable, makes me feel that perhaps the Tim Gunn for whom I have such an abiding respect is a corporate creation and not the genuine article.

So, rather than have my opinion of you diminished, I think I would do better to just not watch the show. I wish you success and look forward to seeing you in other venues.

This is the first show that tackles all types of body shapes and address the fact that there is an emotional connection to what we wear. How we look isn't just about what we purchase but how we feel about ourselves when we wear the clothing, good or bad. I have an idea for a show. I have seen a British version of What Not To Wear come close but not give the attention to detail and basics that Tim does. They took women from all walks of life, all shapes and all ages. The one thing I haven't seen is something that would help me directly. When you have an illness that effects the way you must dress but wish to be fashionable it isn't easy. Please consider this as there are many who long to know how the basics from Tim Gunn could be altered to meet a person's needs to be stylish within the constraints that come up daily. After seeing her in the wardrobe she chose by the end of the show she looked six feet tall and so HAPPY! Happy to know that there are clothes being made for women who are not stick-thin. I am disappointed that after all that Tim said, he believed that she came on the show with an agenda. Well if she did I applaud her even more. I would love it if there were more designers like Marc Carmen Valvo out there, maybe this would be less of an issue. Not everyone is a size 2.

Tim I just absolutely ADORE you! Every time you I see you on TV you just brighten up my day. Your so positive and reaffirming even when offering criticism . Your deserve all your success and recognition. And choosing Veronica as your partner was a stroke of genius. Keep up the good work.

Tim,

Your nothing but pure genius! I think what you have done for young ladies is fantastic and insightful. I wish I could be on the show, you would have lots of fun clearing out my wardrobe. :D
I have fallen into a rut that I cant get out of. Besides the fact that I need to lose some weight, (which I am working on by the way) I need to understand what clothes would suite my figure and height. I'll keep watching the show to get more tips, maybe there is another tall girl with my problem. Thank you!

What is the name of the program you use to load the images of the participants in the program. I like that. I'd like to load myself into one of those things and play around with various fashions and how they may look on me.

Tim this episode inspired me tremendously. JeAnne's figure is so similar to mine. I learned so much from this episode that I went to Macy's today and spent 3 hours trying on clothes, and i found some great things that really make me look long and lean!(Using your list, Tim!!!) And Veronica I also learned how to find a bra that properly fits me and that feels amazing. THANK YOU!!!

Tim,
When it comes to your wardrobe, if you have not worn an outfit for over a year should you remove it from your closet?

I'm already addicted. It's refreshing to see famous faces actually get down and do some dirty work--rummaging through closets and offering up real help! You can re-style me Tim! I love your show--this and Flipping out, best stuff on TV!

I just happened to tune in on Tuesday evening and saw two episodes--the first episode was very typical makeover in my opinion and I thought--I expected better of Tim Gunn--I've always appreciated his sensitivity and intelligence on Project Runway. I almost turned it off before Jeanne came on and I'm so glad I didn't! Here was the Tim Gunn I'd grown to appreciate. And the model (Veronica?) was also such a change from the typical (I should say, reportedly typical--I generally avoid makeover shows unless they just kind of pop up) fashion advisor.
I would agree with one poster--it would have been a kindness to spend the $ for the necklace on some cosmetic dentistry. Of course, perhaps that was passed by Jeanne and she and her husband are comfortable with her dentistry--in that case I applaud both the producers and the couple for being true to themselves.
Bravo has done some wonderful series in the past--ones I wouldn't miss and look forward to sequels--Queer Eye most notably; they've also done some atrocious programming--the stage moms and dads come to mind, along with the dogs. This series is a-one in my book and I'll not miss another episode!

I love this new show, also I really think Tim G, seems so nice and approachable. I keep thinking it would be so cool if he came to my house and helped me out!

Tim Gunn, you are a class act. You treat your guests with respect. You have a wealth of knowliedge. This is so much more than a "make fun of people who dress badly" show. Those shows upset me even though I like to see a good make over. One shouldn't have to be humiliated in order to get fashion help. Bravo to you!

Molly Mary wrote:

So far this show has been inspiring. I have wanted to clear out and revamp my wardrobe for years (I still have clothes from high school!), and Tim has really shown me how! Tim Gunn brings class back to fashion and really makes women feel great about themselves.
Thanks, Tim!

Tim--Great show! I truly liked you on Project Runway so I couldn't wait to catch this new series. You make people feel good about themselves and want to dress more fashionably for their particular body type--good tips are given and those watching really appreciate what you are doing. Too many people are stuck in their t-shirts!

Dear Tim,
The world needs more like you Tim. I'm blown away by your personal style sense. You encouraged JeAnne to find her style and she did...for all of us.
Thanks for taking the time to work on this program.
Thanks for your commitment to this series & Bravo TV.
Tim you have the ability to make us be better.
A fan from the Great Lakes...

More Tim Gunn!! I love the way Guide To Style isn't your typical makeover show, focusing on a new haircut and one outfit. Rather, Tim's goal is to teach a woman how to find her own inner style and reflect that style in her entire closet. I've ordered Tim's book already and can't wait for the next episodes!

The first episode of your show I saw was this one. I'm a bit of an anti-sentimentalist, but I got teary-eyed a lot when I watched it. I've gone through a major weight loss like her, and I'm not sure I can see myself as not being a girl who shouldn't wear 'fat clothes'. What you did here was monumental. I'm not exactly entrepreneurial, but with your skill in seeing the beauty of women who try so hard to maintain their figure, you could find a very marketable resource. I know that if I were to encounter a label of yours on clothes that fit me...I'd be happy to consider them as you do on your show.

I saw JeAnne on another show called I Lost It on the Discovery Health channel about her amazing weight loss. My compliment on her husband. What a wonderful, accepting, supportive sweet man he is. He sees her for the wonderful person she is and not judge her for her appearance. I am sure his love and support are what motivated her to lose the weight and feel better about herself. Congratulations JeAnne for being healthier and now with Tim Gun on your side, how can you go wrong.?

Hey Guys!! I love the show. I am getting so many tips, I love the fact that you help the girls with their self-esteem issues and their unrealistic body images. I think, that is half the battle. You are amazing! I was wondering about the computer program you use for the girls measurements.....could you let me know. I would love to try it. Thanks, Rebecca

Bravo to the man who gives the same attention to the average gal that he does to the runway models. That is true style.

I am enjoying the shows so far. A lot of the info posted here at Bravo is awesome! However... I am **SO** dissappointed that there is not more detail about where to get the items from each episode. Not being able to find the makeup (and hair) info is a big let down! While I like Maybelline, I found the 'Get the look' feature to be vague advice at best. It doesn't offer any real specifics to recreate the look featured on each of your guests! I hate to say it, but I found this feature almost insulting. Shame on you. Could be MUCH better! Your show encourages shoppers to be savvy about fashion...well take into consideration that some of us are more savvy about our grooming (or at least are trying to be). We would LOVE to be able to see close up photos and comments about the hair and makeup from the show! PLEASE consider providing this info! What about a tutorial from Trish? How about showing us the luscious products used on your guests faces? How about tips on eye shapes or choosing makeup colors? These are REAL tips we could use instead of comments that could be found in any magazine. Step it up on this feature and you will dazzle!

I would love to see details on the rest of the garments purchased also. Thanks for listening. Keep up your good work. It's a very inspirational show.

I would like to thank you so much for your wonderful show. I enjoyed watching the transformation of Jeanne. It brought tears to my eyes. After the loss of my husband I too have been working on a transformation and understand the struggles both emotionally and physically. With the different steps you took Jeanne thru she blossomed into a confident and beautiful woman. Thank you again-I hope you understand how much your show helps women feel more beautiful about themselves.

Dear Tim,
I am so happy with your new show. Your strong academic background is an asset because your feedback is constructive, brief, and to the point. I learn a lot from your new show even if I haven't seen a contestant with my size yet. One day I hope to be slimmer and I am working on it but for now, I hope you will have an episode with someone who is a size 14, pear-shaped, and large framed. I can't wait to watch the next episode. I haven't missed one yet.

Take care and keep up the great work!!! You are wonderful, inspiring, and I hope you stay in TV educating and entertaining the public for many years until we get it right. Thanks for helping us look our best.

I've been enjoying this show very much. Aside from all the fashion tips, I find Tim very refreshing. Why? Cheers to you, Tim, for your beautiful manners. When so much of pop culture show bragging thugs refering to women as "bitches and 'ho's" I can't tell you how nice it is to see a man stand up and go to greet a lady entering a room. Hold a door open. Take and carry her bags for her when shopping. Knowing that true gentlemen still exist gives me hope. So, thanks for that, Tim. Maybe your next project should be "Tim Gunn's Guide to Men's Manners."

Hi, Tim

I'd like to know what designer made the black satin trench coat that you put Jeanne in. I just love it!

I have looked for one here on the west coast, but they are either too short (above the knee) or they have a 3/4 sleeve length. I want one that is cut nicely, and sophisticated looking.

Please share with us!
Thank you,
Nola

I would like to know about the shapewear that Jeanne tried on the show. I checked on line and Spankx is what comes up and though they look alike not sure if the same.

Looking forward to more great shows!
