Before we begin, please join me in a round of applause for the elimination of our dear Morgan. For one horrifying moment during the model selection, I feared that Robert, the only remaining designer with whom she hasn't worked, would choose her. The group finally wised up and realized that the stakes are entirely too high to continue playing "runway roulette." Auf wiedersehen, Morgan!

On to the challenge: working together as a team, design a collection for the year 2055.

If only it were that simple! Let's break it down.

"Working together as a team..."

One of the designers had to been in charge to guide and direct, else anarchy and chaos could easily reign. Kevin's chip came out of the bag, so it was his mandate to find a way to unify six distinct and disparate designers — and egos!

"...design a collection..."

Episode four required three designers to collaborate on a single look*. For this challenge, all six would collaborate on a collection, individual looks that share a unifying point of view. By now, we could all trust that the runway would reveal six interesting results, but a cohesive collection is an altogether different matter. Wisely, our designers set out to find garments representing a unified palette — color, at least, can always be relied upon to bring things together.

"...for the year 2055."

The team was told to fast-forward fifty years and design with the environmental conditions and societal contexts of the future in mind. Their inspiration could come from anywhere — Blade Runner, Silent Running, Soylent Green, or even The Jetsons — provided they could back it up with their work.

But to quote Kara Saun, "There's always a twist." Indeed. This challenge is about the future, so where do we go shopping? To a vintage store in Greenwich Village, where else! The vintage clothing was to be deconstructed rather than remixed. Our designers had an hour to scour the racks, find inspiration (affordable inspiration) for their intended looks, and caucus. Most important while at the store was assessing their intended purchases from the point of view of a collection.
