What the Elle?

Four designers remain. Owing to the loss of three designers in the last challenge, seven models remain -- so we’re faced with a record model elimination. Laura and Jeffrey stick with their muses, Camilla and Marilinda, but Uli shocks Michael by selecting his model, Nazri. Reeling, Michael chooses Clarissa.

Heidi announces that the designers will learn about their challenge the next morning. Nina Garcia will present them with it at the offices of Elle magazine. There, Nina sets up the challenge by asking: “How important is fashion editorial?” She asserts that fashion designers need to capture the attention of the editors: “You want to offer the editors something new, something that we haven’t seen.”

Nina goes on to introduce Elle magazine’s First Look page, which opens the fashion section of the publication. This page presents millions of readers with design inspiration and gives incredible exposure to the designer. First Look presents a distinct design philosophy, which is the introduction to the challenge: Create an outfit of your choice that conveys your point of view as a designer.

This was an excellent decision on the part of the show, because this season more than ever each of the final 4 are completely deserving of full recognition—their collections prove that.

Wow. Two weeks of pent-up suspense crawled by only to leave me with the same designers. That's reality television, for ya. I have to say, this season has had a few too many gimmicks and twists for my liking, but its always fun to see the designers squirm under the pressure, hehe.

First off, I really think Laura should have gone, simply because the dress she made looks exactly like that one white, sparkly, plunging neckline dress she has that frightens me to no end with the prospect of a boob-shot. It's tailored well, yeah, it's pretty, yeah... blahblahblah. But it looks exactly like Laura's own dress. I think its pretty shocking that the judges didn't notice that...

Jeffrey was disappointing. He's always been my angsty, disagreeable underdog, and goodness knows I love an underdog. But his dress... It was charming, but it didn't seem like a cohesive statement about Jeffrey that could be looked upon as a signature garment you could glance at and say "Oh, I know what he's all about".

Michael- poor thing. He's so clever in his designs, and I do think the idea of the dress he made was lovely, but the hole was just oddly... skanky. Just kinda threw the whole thing off for me.

Uli. Uli, Uli, Uli. Her and her crazy prints were really elegant tonight- it was a really great example of how she could keep her signature style but deliver it from a different point of view. Yes, it was still a tropical climate dress, but it was a bit more elegant than what she usually does and she definitely deserved to win if only for that. She's really taking the critique to heart and it shows.

Oh, jeez... now I have to wait another two weeks to see what happens to them all! Then it's Bryant Park!

Tim, I kinda guessed that all four designers would go to fashion week -after I read that you were disappointed that Kara Janx's collection last year was one of the best but couldn't be considered. I am excited to see all of the collections because they are so diverse of a group.

Tim, when you almost teared up and your voice broke as you expressed your pride in the final four, you actually moved ME to tears. That was the best moment in all three seasons of PR, by far! How lucky they are to have you as a mentor!

I just realized I needed to clarify my comments...the judges are WUSSES! They should have thrown Jeffrey OUT on his probably tattooed keaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a relief - with the exception of Jeffrey, whom I really just tolerate because no amount of creativity makes up for a nasty disposition , I was hard pressed to prefer one designer over another. Each one has such a unique perspective and brings wonderful creativity and skill to their work. I am very excited to see their offerings at Fashion Week!!

Di and Manda wrote:

First off - wow, we were really surprised. We kinda expected the judges to eliminate two designers and leave two, but we're both happy that they kept all four, especially Michael. I didn't want to see him eliminated for this one challenge.

Anyhow. First designer: Laura. *ahem* WHY, WHY DO YOU USE PLUNGING NECKLINES ALL THE TIME? Okay, that aside, she managed to combine every single dress she's ever made into this one...which means it looks the exact same as anything she's ever designed. Basically, this is what she probably said to herself. "Hey, I know! I'll do what I did last time...only in white! And with *gasp* a plunging neckline! And beads! Genius!" No, not genius, more like boring. God I hope I don't see the same 12 dresses at Fashion Week.

Next: Jeffery. In all honesty, I don't think anything was wrong with this, in the sense that he tried to do something different. I think the biggest mistake was the skirt, but the belt was even more off. It was a stiff, red belt that didn't go with the periwinkle top and white skirt. It basically was just a "wtf" thing there.

Michael...god I cringed. He was the one designer I didn't want to see gone, but he struggled so badly with this. The design, in concept, was actually okay, but in execution, it came out bad, especially in the midsection. At least the judges remembered his past work.

Finally, the winner of the challenge, Uli. Yeah, same thing with the patterns deal. But, I'll give her credit for designing a dress with a different shape. Also, the designe did specifically say that the garment had to speak about the designer, and that's what Uli managed. Laura did that too...but she designed the same dress as always, while Uli went down a different path.

Overall, I'm glad all four remained, because they're all extremely different. I would've eliminated Laura though, just out of sheer lack of creativity in her designs.

Jamaica girl wrote:

I am SO thankful Michael got another chance - he is my favorite - he is the most diverse of the four and I want to wear his designs - it would be really cool for the designers to have to make something for Heidi to wear - or for the judges for that matter and the prize being Heidi wears the winning design to somewhere HUGE!

I have to tell you, TIm, I haven't been a big fan of Jeffrey for most of the season but the scenes that the producers have chosen to view of him have really warmed my heart. I was just SICK when it came down to he and Michael as I wanted to see both of their collections. YEAH! I get to see Michael and Jeffrey and I'm not waiting with bated breath for Uli's collection. Laura will need to step up to the plate to interest me at Fashion Week.
One favor...
please, please, please do not break up the finale show into two episodes. That was the most horrific thing about last season.
I would love to see more outtakes of your comments throughout the show in next season. As you've heard time and time again...YOU and only YOU make this show.

navygirl wrote:

It's quite evident that Bravo and Project Runway had as much trouble as the fans did in selecting the top three designers for the finale. And to be honest, there are comments all over the place about how all of the final four designers are highly talented and have their own point of view. I think it was the best decision all around to send all four designers instead of three. Now this will really be a horse race until the bitter end!

A lot of people are disappointed in Uli's abduction of Nazri. Even though I didn't necessarily like it for Michael, I thought it was a brilliant strategic move on Uli's part. She knows that Nazri is probably the most striking and recognized of all the models on that runway. She's only trying to give herself an edge in the contest. At this point in the game, every little bit helps. Brilliant, Uli!

The only thing that I would have done in Michael's place is select Uli's ex-model Lindsay. She always looks sexy in Uli's clothes. Just think how she would have filled out Michael's dress as opposed to Clarissa! But understandably, Michael must have been numb from shock. Don't worry Michael, you still have a shot!

Congratulations to all four designers! Bravo, Project Runway!!!

Now I can't wait for the fireworks at the reunion show. Looks like a good one!

Wow what a nail biter!!! Remember last season when Nick's model (his muse) got taken from him??? Well Uli did the same thing to Michael tonight. But little was made of it. I thought it was crappy when it happen to Nick and it was crappy tonight when Uli did it. Michael had the BEST model, Nazri is beautiful. Everything she puts on looks incredible. I wonder if Uli would have won without her??? We will never know. Still tonight was fun and its wonderful that all 4 designers are moving on. Good luck to them all; Michael you are still my favorite.

HL wrote:

Perhaps in the business world there is no such thing as "fair play", however, Uli really surprised me when she took Michael's model (Previously she pretended to be his friend). I do not think designers should have the option of switching models!

I love the show!

Mari wrote:

Yes, Uli had the best dress this time around and she deservedly won this round. Based on the three other designs, Jeffrey, Michael and Laura should have all been auf'd. But I'm glad they weren't, as they have proved themselves with their designs on earlier episodes. And so, what happens next...If I had to pick a winner now, it would be tough. Each designer has his/her own signature style; however, if I had to go with overall design and execution, I think Laura wins in the end.

pinger wrote:

I did like Uli's a lot.
Laura, although the same dress, does express who she is.
Jeff's was charming, but I also like his hard edge.
And Michael, what happened? Looked like a prom dress that went awry.

I was SO happy to see and hear Heidi tell both Michael and Jeffrey that they were BOTH also going to be in the final and be allowed to compete and show off their designs. I actually cried, and I'm not even gay! Imagine that?! It was just such a heartwarming and touching moment to see that the show and the jugdes really do care about these people and their future and realized that all 4 really were deserving because of their unique styles. I applaud Project Runway, Heidi, Michael, Nina, Tim and all else involved in arriving at this most pleasant, fair, and compassionate decision. Can't wait for the final runway show! Thanks.

My friends and I were worried throughout this episode because we didn't really want to see any of the four go home, so lucky us, they're all going (which technically was going to happen anyway, but at least they'll all be judged).
Not too much for me to say on the designs other than I'm so confused as to why the final challenge always seems to make the designers struggle. Maybe it's the pressure, I don't know.
I'm worried about the reunion episode, personally, because I always get uncomfortable when people argue and the previews of Keith (he had so much potential) and another Jeffery/Angela arguement has me squirming.
Oh well...on to the footage of Fashion Week!

There was no way they could have gotten to three designers fairly. I guess they realized this and just let everyone stay. In some ways this is probably a harder thing to do because everyone from the first two shows are going to raise a ruckus about their eliminations.
This episode could have gotten Michael or Jeffrey out and they are so very talented in such different ways. I really did think that they both made really bad choices tonight. Thank goodness the judges had the wisdom to allow them to continue.
I liked the dress that Uli designed. It was classic Uli, but just quirky enough, and short enough to look great. Laura was back to designing for herself. Not a bad dress, but we've seen it again and again.
I checked out the pictures from Fashion Week on the web page, looks really good. I can't wait to see the whole thing. These guys had to dig really deep to put together something special, each of them are good, so it's going to be a tough job for the judges.

Vicky wrote:

Uli definitely won. Laura's dress was impeccable and predictable.

I hated the guys' dresses. Jeffrey's was the worst. Why he was chosen to be a part of the final four mystifies me. It was clear from this competition that the three designers should have been Michael, Uli, and Laura (my favorite.)

Marie Caldwell wrote:

Wow is all i can say......for the last 2 weeks i have jumped back and forth between Uli and Jeffrey as far as which one needed to go. But Uli pulled it off and blew me away. From the dress to the picture she took, everything looked professional.

Laura, who is my favorite, played it safe. I loved the dress, but was aware that she had used this sillouette before. Come on Laura, with your taste and perfection you can go a little different and still keep true to yourself. Im very dissappointed in you!

Poor Michael, he was really stumped and you could tell by the dress. It was not up to his usual impeckable style. The whole thing was thumbs down. Hopefully the judges will forgive him.

Jeffery, my least favorite, did ok. I could actually see where he was coming from. Althought he just barely missed the boat. I have to say he was very lucky that they decided to keep all 4 or he would have been OUT!

I loved seeing the preview of coming attractions - like the reunion of the season #3 designers...except for Keith.

Is he for real? Does he really think he was wronged or did you put him up to that for more drama???

Because I never saw such a miserable creature so deserving of being thrown under the wheels of a bus.

I'm addicted though, so I'll tune in next week to see what he and the others have to say.

I love the show - hope there's a season #4.

I couldn't stand the thought that one of them was leaving. All four are talented in such different ways- it would be such a shame if we didn't get to see a collection from each one.
I don't care who wins now- I just want to see what they can do!

Renata wrote:

I am glad that Michael is still in the race. I LOVE him along with Uli and Laura. I can't understand why Jeffrey is still in till the end. His design today was not what he is all about. The rock-want-to-be clothes are what he is about and his dress today did not meet the challenge. Beauty and romance are far from his venue. The challenge was to create something that describes you. He should have clearly lost this challenge. I am truly disappointed in the judges on their decision to keep him in the finals.

Tim,
When each designer is told over and over to branch out (for instance ULI!) and they dont, why are they still on the show. Uli, is a talented designer but she makes the same thing over and over and over again. Michael, Nina and Heidi have said this over and over but yet she is still here.

Are the judges just looking for the worst outfit for that particular challenge or do they look at the designers history and say enough is enough.

Personally, I think we will see 12 floral, Miami Beach looks coming down the runway.

All that glitz on Laura's dress is hypnotizing Tim is all I have to say. So agree with Miss Metal Mouth that Laura deserved to go home just based upon the fact that her dress was a copy of that white fringed dress she wears. Yet another plunging neckline and oh, well, beading on the bottom worked on her first challenge and fringe on the last one, so let's just do that again. God, how Laura's clothes bore me to tears and make me want to scream!!!! AAAAAHHHHH!!!! What the hell happened to Michael? I was so afraid that someone from my hometown Atlanta would be out. Terrible color and terrible dress and not representative of Michael's usual well put together look at all. This the last challenge must have been a stress out for him, and Uli stressed out and pulled out of that downward spiral and what a wonderful dress! Loved the neckline on that dress and how different from Uli. Yes, she deserved that win. However, I agree with Tim on Jeffrey's dress. I liked that dress and it was very different from Jeffrey, but it again did not represent his normal edgy point of view, which was what he was supposed to do for this challenge. Wrong challenge for taking that sort of risk and something he should have done for a different challenge. I was so happy that if Laura couldn't be out, that all four of them were going to Olympus Fashion Week. Now, I need to stop typing and go back to throwing socks at the t.v. because the episode is rerunning and Laura's face is on the screen. Who started the throwing socks at the t.v. suggestion, I wonder, because I have been doing this for years? Noticed other blog posters talk of throwing socks at the t.v. when they don't like something.

What's good about this is that there won't be one designer showing at Bryant Park who knows he/she is already eliminated - they can all work their best at designing their own collections without that 3rd runner up aufing hanging over someone's head with the other designers knowing it (it couldn't have been easy for Austin or Kara).
I agree that the reverse cleavage thing going on with Michael's dress was.not.working.
Perhaps I'm revealing some ignorance here, but I had no idea that the Wall Street Journal had a fashion section, much less a fashion editor!!!

First off, I loooooooove the show and I think Tim is the best part of it. A class act to be sure. I watch every episode three or four times.
That said, I find it totally unbelievable that Jerk-frey was allowed to stay. He has not designed one thing that I would want to wear. That is totally understandable as I am 64 years old 'BUT',.... I have daughters and granddaughters that are of the age to wear the designs from Project Runway. I would be apalled if ANY of them wore anything close to what Jerkfrey has shown. They would not at any rate, as all of them have better taste. His junk looks like something I would see at the Venice Beach Flea Market on the close-out rack. Every design is cheaper looking and cheesier than the one before. What can you expect from a no-class, ill-mannered, rude, arrogant, obnoxious Jerkfrey anyway?
I heard his Mother say she was so proud of him. She looked and acted like a very nice lady. That leaves me wondering what she finds in him to be proud of. I understand that she loves him as any Mother loves their child and I certainly do not blame her for that. Proud?? I would be so ashamed of any child of mine that acted like Jerkfrey does that I would be ashamed to ever admit that I raised him.
The other three remaining designers have talent and it is so different. I personally prefer Laura's classic look. This is due to my age to some degree, but not entirely. My daughters love it too. I don't think that classic elegance ever goes out of style. Uli's designs looked wearable for all ages, comfortable and fun. I have many designs that are similar. I too, spend much of my time on the Florida or California coast. Michael is a great talent, greatly admired by the youngest generation of my family.
These three are deservedly the final three in my opinion. It looks like three beautiful swans and one ugly dickling from here. I am inclined to think that the producers kept Jerkfrey on for grins and giggles. He is certainly laughable.
I almost felt the same about Santino last season. Before it was over, I found things in Santino to admire and respect. This will never happen with Jerkfrey. I can not see one redeeming quality or muster any empathy at all.
With best regards

This Michael was not the same man who designed the fabulous seersucker jet-setter look ... this Michael went back to his audition look and did the weaving thing again. He's lucky his model stayed IN the dress--or Fall Fashion Week could have come "busting out all over," ya know? I have loved almost everything he's done, but not this outfit. BTW, I really fell for his painted western shirt. Where can we get one of those?

I like Laura's ability to design for a mature customer. But Laura, sweetheart, I was a 105 lb, 5'2" C cup in middle school. I can't remember dressing up and not having breasts. Lots of women have them. Many of those women will not be your customers because they don't enjoy wearing their breasts on the outside of their clothes. Please help them have fashion, style, and a great silhouette without leaving "the girls" hanging.

Jeffrey, I didn't get the liberty milkmaid look--the top was too constructed to be edgy, and the tulip skirt with the little ruffle was teetering on the edge of an "homage to Angela" and missing only the fleurchons. The photo location was great, but the model's position was not dissolute enough to suggest the edginess he wanted.

Uli's dress was heart-attack gorgeous. Absolutely fabulous, sexy, smart, flowy, suitable for hot weather, but not a "Merman Mermaid MuuMuu."

I can't wait to hear the bitchiness at the reunion special.

Until then, thanks for being a fabulous teacher and mentor to us all !!!

First shame on Ulie shaking Michael like that taking his model on the last challenge. Nothing like the Nick drama over the Zulema take. No one formed a witch hunt on Ulie. Michael handled it with style though he was hurting. This showing was not the best for anyone. Ulie's dress was a mini dress of her same old wild prints. Michael's gown/dress love the material but why this gown? Maybe he was paying almage to the late great Kayne. Unfortunately Mike went a little to call girl on the gown and missed. Laura's dress looked alot like a dress she herself wore in earlier episodes with the same (to the boney breastbone) plunging neckline. Jeff should have been off'd. Where is Malandrino now to judge his new range? No no no no no. I guess they needed assurance for the show since Laura is very ripe. I am still longing for the range of talent like season 1. I'm still waiting for the next Kara Saun, Austin & of course Jay (Wendy can join her new buddy Angela for B's of the season). If you're going to have good drama where is Santino, Zulema, Nick and whining Andre. Last please next year in addition to presentations & bios at the semifinal stage have a one day sew off of about 30 folks to make sure everyone really can sew and can create on the spot before you tape. Stacey looked like she crapped her pants when she saw she had to use a sewing machine and well we all know about Keith's little tricks & now he says it was sabotage, Stop we don't need his type of nonsense.
See you at the finale blog.

I'm glad they all get to stay in the competition! I really felt bad for Michael, having Nazri taken away from him! The two of them seemed to have such a great working chemistry; it must've been difficult to change models so far into this competition... Two surprises: Uli's dress was really great while Jeffrey's was definitely a departure -- I kind of liked it, probably because it was so different from the rest of his stuff.....I liked Laura's dress, even if there's no way I (or any other "everyday woman" )would ever dare wear that neckline. I don't get it... Tim, I was moved that you seemed so genuinely relieved that they all got to stay. You are a wonderful teacher! Bravo to you! As a teacher in the arts, I was inspired.

At least someone got something out of that!

The show seemed so anti-climatic! For the first time, I wasn't thrilled by any of the dresses. I didn't want to see Michael eliminated but his dress was truly terrible. Laura's, however pretty, was same-old-same-old-V-to-the-navel... altho I must say, Camilla wears it well. And yet another hippy frock from Uli... the best thing about it was the snapshot of Nazri wearing it while playing with the street band. I liked Jeffrey's and didn't find it 'dowdy'... but on the other hand, it wasn't 'provocative' or 'irreverent'.

All the designers seemed to have gotten into a groove of using the assignment du jour to provoke their creativity. Without a challenge to rise to, they all floundered. It's funny how total freedom can make people go blank.

He had a chance to really do something and blew it. Ugly dress, looked like something the cat dragged in. Michael's, although a bit revealing was lovely, as always. Good choice of color, great design. And they ripped him a new one. I think the judges are off their rockers saying that all these designers are good. Only Michael and sometimes Jeffrey show any talent at all. They are both diverse and can make garments that are different from one another. I am very disappointed with the outcome this week.

That ain't right, but she did the same thing to Keith. She did a sucker punch cutthroat move just to put Nazri in a frigging beach towel! At least Jeffrey & Michael took a risk. I was upset that Uli took Nazri from Michael, but after this episode I'm glad that she did.

Michael disappointed me for the 1st time. I think he tried to hard and over thought his design. He had developed a case of the Laura disease. lol.

Laura has great skills, but as usual, with the exception of the black/white challenge, it was the same too low cut laura dress. I hope to see better at the fashion show.

Jeffrey congrats for doing something different. He tried.

I have never been a big "reality show" fan but I must say that I was totally captivated immediately by this show. It is one of the few if its ilk which has exhibited an appreciable and evident growth from one season to the next - the designers just keep getting better with time.

I know that less talented people are often kept around on these shows because of their controversial natures. Jeffrey could have easily fallen into this category, but he IS very talented and fashion-forward, in spite of his non-conventional personal style. My complaint with him, however, is that he (and the others) are aspiring to be "professional designers". Well, he lacks the requisite professionalism. A professional does not disparage others publicly or hurt others feelings like Jeffrey does. He acts like the elementary school bully who attempts to gain much-needed self-esteem by hurting his classmates. If he spent as much time staying focused on each challenge as he did being nasty and rude to his colleagues, he would have ended up way ahead of the pack. His designs are not only good on the eyes but they are intelligent in their design and execution. But he has dropped the ball many times, notably on the most recent and most critical challenge, due to his constant ragging on others. I feel that his treatment of Angela's mother was disrespectful and over-the-top. I don't care how much he hated Angela, you just don't do that to someone's mother, particularly when you have a mother who has supported you emotionally through trying times like Jeffrey's mother claims to have done. Maybe he really doesn't have the close relationship with his mother that Angela and the others obviously have with theirs, but his crude and rude behavior is going to come back and bite him in the ass when he leasts expects it. KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE, JEFFREY! YOU ARE MAKING AS ASSHOLE OF YOURSELF. IF YOU CONTINUE ON THIS ROAD, SOMEONE WILL SURELY SABOTAGE ONE OF YOUR SHOWS IN THE FUTURE - MODELS WON'T SHOW UP, CLOTHES WILL MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEAR, ALL MANNER OF MISSHAPS ARE JUST WAITING FOR YOU!

As for MY personal favorite, I think Michael Knight is the person to watch. Even if he doesn't prevail here, he has a solid future in sportswear design. He is young and fresh and definitely understands the "shot-calling" young demographic (18 to 32 year-olds) with the money to spend. I hope that, if he doesn't win here, he is picked up by Sean Jean or Roc-A-Wear or Phat Farm where he can put in a much-needed year or two as an apprentice which will give him the business acumen needed to stay in the forefront. He desperately needs to build up his confidence in himself - this last challenge should have focused on his ability to design for the hip-hop generation, like the white outfit for the Paris challenge and the white off-the-shoulder dress in the "Black and White" challenge. I thought that he should have won over Jeffrey because his white hip-hop suit would have commanded a larger marketshare than Jeffrey's dated rock outfit. But, othe than Heidi, the other judges were too old to see the greater appeal of Michael's design. (I'm 56 and I got it!!) Until tonight, I thought that Michael recognized his strength and he should have nailed this one, hands down. His weakness is not in his vision but in his belief in himself. Instead of aspiring to make a white girl's ass look good, she should have been in an outfit that Alicia Keyes or Paris Hilton could have snatched right off that model's back and worn to the Hampton's, the Turks and Caicos, or the Grammys! But, Michael is still young and he has the time to give for learning at the "foot of the master", an luxury that none of the others has. YOU GO, MIKE!! All of us here in the ATL are pulling and praying for you!!!

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! The blog ate our first posting, so here goes again. Laura could not have made it to the final, just no, no, no. My t.v. nearly exploded and Laura H.'s migraine is so much worse. This 11th episode of PR was supposed to be a cure for her headache, but oh, no Miss Laura Bennett had to stay in and now we will have to watch her nightmares walk down the finale runway and just so sure she will make copies of everything that she has made in every challenge before, and everything she has bought to wear, and all that she had made for herself before and all the elegant clothes in ads she receives in the mail. Heidi saying that she would wear everything that Laura has made is just not a glowing recommendation considering all the hideous bizarro outfits that she wore this season. We were all so shocked that in Tim's last blog he named known designers as those who made Heidi's outfit. Do you think that maybe it their names are prominently displayed in the closing credits that the designers will do a better job on Heidi's clothes next season of PR? Michael called his hooker goes out for a night at the theater dress a beautiful dress? Everything about that dress was just hideous from the color to the exposed boobs. He really needs to stop being inspired by Laura. If you read and view W magazine and some others about some of the newer female musicians, Jeffrey's dress still fits his rock star designs aesthetic because some of the newer female musicians want soft, pretty, and they go for femininity instead of edgy for their stage dresses. Who knew that Jeffrey could do a dress so charming and pretty and lovely? How dare Heidi say that this dress should be in a picture of the model milking a cow after she wore that awful Swiss Miss Chocolate server box photo dress? She's the one who should be milking a cow in that particular dress. So surprised that Santino wasn't the designer of that dress for her. The models truly are the muses for the designers and their inspiration, aren't they? Michael lost his model and just lost it on this challenge without Nazri, but wasn't Clarissa, Angela's model? He should have chosen Lindsay, the model betrayed by Uli and Laura when not chosen. With Nazri as her model, Uli was truly inspired and left her closed up locked in design box and made something very new and different and she really deserved that win. I thought only Laura and Michael truly faltered on this last challenge before the finale. MelanieAnneMcF & Laura H. and Elspeth Moore

Uli a winner! Please, let me take this moment to go vomit. She showed the same thing she always has, only without arms and a bit shorter. Michael dropped the ball with his lack of planning ahead ... and Jeffrey proved he is a Zero, a Cipher, a Nothing.

Please, can someone show me where logic and reason entered into any of this final decision.

Wow! How did they all get it so wrong? The only surprise now will be who the judges pick, and who is the fan favorite since I've already seen the 4 collections. I have to say they all stepped up and one of them really surprised me. You can probably guess who. Anyway I don't think Michaels dress is skanky, but it is a little too tight and if Laura's plunging V necks are engineered Michaels are most definitly NOT, which I find surprising after the great hot pants he did.
Jefferys dress looked like it had been sucked on. It reminds me of those little tubes with elastic on the top and bottom that frugal housewives stuff with their extra grocery bags. He should have copied his newspaper dress completely and made the skirt with some swing.
Uli is Uli in the same way Laura is Laura. I don't think her dress was any more of a departure from her usual style than the coat Laura made in the first challenge or the suit in the dog challenge are a departure for Laura. Uli made a cute little jacket for the dog challenge too. I think their collections show versitility and attention to detail and are cohesive with a definite point of view.
Unlike Nina I don't like it when the designers make something different just for the sake of it. Laura's clothes would sell in most high end shops, and Uli is tailor made to sell in warm climates, so what's wrong with that Michael?
Michael's clothes would also sell well to almost any woman and his "Hampton" outfit makes me wonder if he should try a mens line.
Jeffs kind of "audacity" really does look like "commes de garcons goes to Amish country" and yes they are unusual, but you would never call them beautiful and no woman who wasn't paid to would wear them.
Well! You made me cry when you said you were worried about who you would have to tell to pack up and leave. I was extremely bored with Uli before this challenge - everything she designed looked the same. Braided straps, V-neckline, etc., etc. But she really pulled it out and deserved to win. She finally showed us she can do something different, while staying true to her point of view.
I liked Laura's dress, but, yes, it did look like the dress she wore on the Paris boat ride. Jeffrey's dress was a mess. There was nothing romantic about it. Just a mish-mosh of different textures. Blech.
I was so worried about my poor Michael. His gown didn't seem all that well executed and it didn't have the edge that most of his other pieces did. I'm so thankful the judges didn't eliminate anyone, because I'm afraid it would have been Michael and I would have been devasted.

Michael. I think Michael was thrown by the freedom. He does very well with the restrictions of the challenges. But the Olympus week collection is all about freedom to do anything. Not a good time to choke. But he did come up with something. And Michael has been consistently good he's a safe bet.

Uli did something new! Not that I would wear that. But it looked great on her model.

There were certainly some tough decisions to make tonight; an even tougher job was for the audience: to come away from the show and not feel cheated. Throughout this series I've loved Michael and hated Jeffrey, but tonight Michael deserved to go - it would've broken my heart, but his dress was clearly not up to par. To change the rules/format at the last minute and accept all four was pandering to the audience, and weakens the integrity of the program. And the stuff about Jeffrey and his family - I'm glad to see he has a more sensitive side, but I felt the producers were showing it to prepare us - so that we wouldn't be up in arms when he went to the final three (or in this case, four). I've watched this show since the beginning, and become addicted each season... but this year, more and more, I feel like I'm being manipulated. DON'T GET ME WRONG - I love the show! I just don't want Project Runway to become a joke, like so many other reality/contest shows have done. One thing that I think has been better this year than previous seasons is the number and importance of the incentive prizes, such as appearing in Elle, being distributed by Macy's, etc. - those have all been exciting and well thought-out, and have given all the designers a chance to increase their name-recognition, whether they win the grand prize or not. Good thinking!

I could not watch the last 5 min between Michael and Jeffrey b/c I thought they where going to remove THE BEST DESIGNER-Micheal. I could not believe that the sent all 4. Excellent job Project Runway!!!

Michae (favorite) has this Urban/hip look that I love. I LOVED his white dress with the black belt. I can absolutly see myself wearing his cloths. His last dress did not reflect him or his style. I was so nervous for him, but I was happy that the judges considered everything he has done. I would have been really shocking to lose him.
Jeffrey needs to learn that not every opinion needs to be said out loud. I want to to tell him SHHHH!!!! However, he is a strong designer. His style is different and I liked a lot of his work. I really liked the black/white concept that he did. I wished I could pull it off.
Uli- loved her use of color and print. She did deserve to win the final challenge. Actually, that was my favorite outfit that she has created. My issue with Uli is that her outfits seem to reflect a certain body type-tall/thin. Can the average women wear her pieces?
Laura dress I really liked (couldn't pull it off) but I liked it more than I like the black/white dress. She is elegent and so are her dresses. I love to see her step out of the box.

Annie wrote:

People are so quick to judge on one single outift. Shouldn't a body of work be representative enough? Take Uli...all we need to do to recreate her is some prints and braided chiffon. Laura is equally flat. My God, I cannot believe people who adhere so much to their "point of view" are rewarded by playing it safe and sticking to what they have always done. The judges are too harsh on taking a chance and the result fails. The result is that people who played it safe were able to skate under the radar and make it to the final two. It shouldn't be a question of execution failure but rather of timidness. Ideally, a designer would have help in construction and opinions that are not tainted with competitor's biases.

Jeffrey should win because he is the boldest; fear and insecurity are not only easily sniffed out, it is reflected in the range of a designer's desings.

Therefore, neither Uli nor Laura should even be in the final three. Both are boring and predicable. Change in their format of design should not stem from the judges threatening them but rather from their own creative instinct. Any praise accredited to them is an acknowledgement of a shift from their normal pattern. For example, in the Paris Couture episode, Uli did not use a pattern. Praised. The very next episode, Laura tries to be younger but the dress does not necessarily show a younger design but the youthful look is conveyed through the rosy cheeks of the makeup artist.

Speaking of biases, the choice of model is crucial to a win. Past precedents have shown a trend of allegiance toward a model, be it regularity of proportions, friendship, etc. Uli, as did everyone, recognized the importance of having the model whos look almost guarantees a win. And to Uli's surprise and "talent" she won that episode. Michaels won two with her, Keith wone one (almost two) and I cannot remember but there may have been more.

Mari wrote:

Oh, I forgot to mention...Jeffrey is rude and condescending. He gets voted off for that! Uli's designs are always the same prints--but this time she did pull it off. If I saw this dress and nothing else she had done, I'd say it was the best. Borrowing (stealing) Michael's model was the best stragetic move she could have made. I think a lot of Michael's winning designs can be attributed to the model he chose, Nazri, without a doubt. I'm surprised no one scooped her up sooner. If I was there, I'd steal her too. Smart move. Nazri makes any outfit look great, well, maybe not Jeffrey's frock. Michael should stick to sportswear, as Michael Kors said, and his dress was awkward looking and ill-fitting and he can do better. Laura is great at execution and though her designs are the same, she could really push the limit if she starts expanding her repertoire before it's too late. Possibly Uli has the edge now with Nazri. But that's sure to change. Or is it?....

Janis Schofield wrote:

Well, of course there was little suspense about the four designers due to the fashion week reporting in all the magazines on the newsstands this past week or so...but it was still interesting to watch. I really enjoy Project Runway, don't understand the judges' choices most of the time, but as they say, "There is no accounting for taste." Whoever they are. I am just flabbergasted about the judging of Laura's dress. Yes, she is the mistress of the cocktail dress, and if that is her genre, then HOORAY! We need a return to beauty, elegance, style... can't we just have a season of pretty clothing once again? Just one season? Do we have to have edgy, raw, shock style all the time? It is no longer new and fresh, it has been done! I appreciate the freshness and elegance that Laura turns out unfailingly, I love to just sit back and know that my eyes are going to be treated to a feast of elegant lines, gorgeous fabrics and laces, expensive looking trims and embellishments....I WANT to take out my pearls and put my hair up....is that a bad thing?
Addressing Jeffrey's costume...I didn't see adequate workmanship in his garment...such as it was....watching him use black thread in the serger on the white fabric spoke volumes to me, but what I saw for the first time, was Jeffrey acting almost human. That dress was really bad, but I do offer him congratulations on making it to Fashion Week.
I'm worried about Michael. He does such beautiful work and I just don't know what happened this time. I don't think it was as terrible as the judges said, but the dress was too bare, not up to Michael's standard and very dissappointing. I'm hoping that Michael wows us at Fashion Week with a whole line of what he knows best....sportswear. He is a great designer, great talent that needs some experience and guidance. I'm glad he wasn't eliminated...still wondering why he felt he had to do a gown, which hasn't been his forte.
Ulli's little dress, while I hated it, was better than the first one she started to make. I really detest the throw back 60s era fashion, though I do understand that it is popular. The thing is, it has been done to death and it is time to move on. I told my husband that I was looking at Ulli in the adorable little strapless sundress she was wearing...absolutely adorable, and couldn't figure out why she would design such a monstrosity, yet wear something that was so wonderful. I like Ulli though I find her very single dimensional, which is FINE, for Pete's sake....there are MANY designers who specialize and do very well...she likes hot weatha, she lives in hot weatha.....ha. I'm glad she did well.
So the four are off to Fashion Week....actually have already been, but we aren't to know that...we have to play make believe and pretend that Fashion Week hasn't already been. I will tell you this, I can't wait to find a Creation by Laura, because I will be a customer. I think that she is a talented woman and I appreciate that she drips elegance, that her designs are chic, opulent, sumptuous, make us just feel a wee bit glamorous and that we want to "preen" a bit. Can you tell she is my favorite? She certainly has my vote. All this work and she has a sixth child on the way? She is woman, hear her roar!

I've been in suspense for the past 2 weeks wondering who would be sent home since there are only 4 designers left and since last week was a repeat show that really was disappointing because this is the first time I've watched every episode since the beginning of the season and to make a long story short, I'd LOVE to see Michael win he always has beautiful designs and he is alternative it's never the same style he can switch and make different styles he to me is the most talented the other 3 are good designers as well but you've seen the Rock style over and over you've seen the same Miami, LA fresh fun style with the same type of clothing pattern over and over and you've continued to see the same elegant V- neck over and over throughout the whole season and I just think that Michael has versatility and his designs are always HOT!! HOT!! I would love to see MICHEAL (WIN), I think he is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!! (MICHEAL) (MICHAEL) you are the Winner in my eyes and I'm sure that their are thousands if not millions of people who agree with me!
Showing much Love,

Hi Tim!

I'm extraordinarily pleased that all four designers will be going on to Fashion Week. Unlike the other two seasons, each designer has an individual point of view and I can definitely understand why the judges didn't want to eliminate any of them! I look forward to seeing the runway show in a couple of weeks.

I can't say I'm too excited for next week's episode, though. I know that drama sells, but I don't watch this excellent show for the drama. I watch it for the fashion. Even though I know next to nothing about fashion in real life, watching Project Runway gives me a false sense of expertise and artistic creativity, which is a fun change from the life of a science grad student! I hope that season 4 tones down the drama and gets back to the fashion goodness that we all adore. But hey, I'll watch no matter what happens.

Carry on, Tim, you're wonderful!

Unfortunately, I was not suprised that the 4 were going, due to the fact that Access Hollywood announced last week all 4 of them showed their line during the PR show at fashion week. I don't know if that was intensional or not, but then to read about it once again in an article on the CNN website really got to me. The article even said who was the clear favorite. I really love the show and watched tonight anyway, but deep down inside I felt that I had been robbed of the anticipation of who was going because things leaked out so early on. I will say this, it looks like the reunion show will be great. Can't wait to watch it. That is if other media sources don't mess it up for the fans.

Congrats to all four contestants!!! You all have done beautiful work, although Micheal is my favorite. Sorry your model was taken from you...I know with her, that dress would've gone over much better. You are a wonderful, thoughtful designer & I can't wait to wear your clothes. Jeffrey, with the exception of the "mom" dress, I've loved you r work as well. You always come with something exciting. Good luck to you in the final round as well.

I think the biggest mistake was the skirt, but the belt was even more off. It was a stiff, red belt that didn't go with the periwinkle top and white skirt. It basically was just a "wtf" thing there."

I TOTALLY AGREE. I cringed even when I first heard Jeffery say the words "red, white, and blue"! UGH! Of all of the different beautiful colors you had to choose from.. that was the genius palette? The red just completely threw me for a loop, too. It was bulky, oversized and there was something about the ruffles peeking out from the bottom of the belt that just irked me to no end! I think that a pale yellow (or even a gold) would've been a bold but pretty choice, or a satiny navy blue to accentuate the other colors he used.

Sending all four designers to Fashion Week was a brilliant move ... they're all uniquely talented and completely different, and it should be fun to see their spring collections. Personally, I would have sent Jeffrey home WEEKS ago, but I can forgive the judges and producers now that Michael and Laura (my favorites) survived to the end. Tim, you are (as always) my favorite part of this show. Let's do lunch sometime!

The judges/producers made the right decision in sending all four remaining designers to Fashion Week. It would have been extremely unfair to send any one of them home tonight based upon their designs in this last episode. Even the hated Jeffrey did not deserve to go home based on his work tonight. Along the same lines, I thought that Uli's design suffered from many of the same problems that the other designs. I absolutely did not understand the gushing praise the judges heaped upon her. I hated her dress, but I'll get over it. HOWEVER, and while I tend to stay away from the issues of the personalities and drama of PR, I am compelled to comment on Uli's behavior tonight. Yes, I was angered when she selected Nazri, but it was her right to do so. Michael, being the gentleman that he is, handled it well. I was shocked and saddened, however, when Uli issued her critique of Michael's design. She stooped to Jeffrey's level tonight and I really hope that when she watched this episiode that she realized how unprofessional and hurtful her words were. YES, the designers are entitled to have their opinions about their competition, but why go public about it? It is so undignified and ultimately reveals their own insecurities (see: Jeffrey). Whether or not Michael wins the competition, his dignifity and professionalism remain intact. I cannot wait to see how his career develops. I simply cannopt say the same for Uli and the other haters on the show.

I LOVE Uli and was glad that she won, but in my heart of hearts, I think that had she not pulled off a win, they would have sent her home and made it a final three. I love that she got Nina excited about her designs again! (you know Nina had final say over who one... nobody gets into Elle without Nina's approval, nobody.) I too am looking forward to the reunion show where everybody can call out Keith the cheater... who was apparently framed??? Right, Keith, right. Also, I enjoyed the little clip of Vincent calling Michael an amateur... apparently only a PROFESSIONAL would 1. make a basket hat, 2. get "turned on" by recyclables, 3. Glue a nasty rose on a nastier dress. I hope Jeffrey makes Allison cry, then she can dry her eyes on a big fleurchamps.

I was surprised that Michael chose Clarissa as his model. She always looks like she hates what she's wearing. (She might have a permament sour look after weeks of wearing Angela's horrible design.) I really liked Michaels' dress. the neckline was a bit risque but no more so than Laura's. The problem wasn't the dress, it was the modeI. I also liked Uli's dress, even though it looked more like a beach coverup than a dress, but it was the best at capturing her sense of style. Laura is an excellent tailor but a boring designer. If her model hadn't advised her to liven it up, she wouldn't have won the cocktail category. That dress was lovely..and her best. Jeffery is very different which is good, but the way he treated Angela's Mother was shameful. I've only seen one great design and that's the one he did for himself. I see the difficulty in elimination. There are four distinct styles: air- breezy, water- smooth, earth- refined and, fire- spirited. They don't do well when they step out of their elements yet, they are so good at what they do. I do find Michael the most versatile in style and a toss between Uli and Laura in workmanship. Jeffery may take risks but I'd rather have had Kayne. His over the top fashions were well made and fun to watch.

I enjoyed this show because it didn't eliminate anyone, and I enjoyed the surprise. I may not like Jeffrey's nasty disposition, but I liked the part when he was talking about his family because it made me more sympathetic towards him. He doesn't talk about them very much, and maybe the producers decided to add that footage to make him a more sympathetic figure. I did want to see him go because of the way he treated Angela and her mom.
I really like all four of these people for their individuality and their skill.

I am so relieved that Michael is staying, because if the judges had been FORCED to choose, I have a feeling that it would have been him. And I so didn't want to see him go. He's just so damned NICE! So pleasant and patient with the other designers, he doesn't seem to have a malicious bone in his body. He didn't even get mad that his model was taken.

He didn't make an issue of it the way Nick did last season, moping around and going out of his way at Mood to make sure Tim knew of his new hardship. There wa no ATLAS footage of Michael discussing being mad at Uli, like Nick talked about how he'd like to "cut" Zulema. Michael was visibly shocked, and it became evident that the model switch threw him off his game, but he never once used that as an excuse for his design or execution.

But it's a good thing that personality alone isn't what makes a succesful designer. If that was true, then nasty, talented Jeffrey would be long gone. I'm curious to see how that teaser of he and Angela having words goes down. I would love to see her shut him up, but he's too quick witted and mean-spirited to allow that to happen with anyone, especially Angela.

And if the Tim's podcast on the whole Keith debacle in episode 4 is any indication, it should be just squirm-inducing to watch Keith try to justify his actions.

This show was a tough one... There were things I loved and HATED about each oufit.... But particularly.... and unfortunately I thought that both Uli and Laura were doing EXACTLY what they have always been doing, and as we know Project Runway is all about versatility. When it came down to Michael and Jeffrey, I was flabbergasted.... I love them both THE MOST!!! Even though they are different, I feel that they are the most talented and respect each others' talent even though they are snippy about it. It only signifies their sincere respect of each others' potential.
Laura's dress??? Sexy and classy.... but the same damn thing.... I'm sorry, but how many people can wear a neckline down to their waist? Bored me to tears, and nothing she has made has changed my mind. Alzheimers with boobs.
Uli????? God.. If I see one more dresssss with prrrints and floooowiness, I am going to barf; no matter what length.... Can she make anything besides a flooowwy, fffffun dresss to go to paahhties vith? Bleh.
Jeffrey??? I loved his idea. He has a great eye and the talent to change our perspective about what is beautiful... his only problem?? He tried to change too much. The dress would have been beautiful if he would have tweaked some aspects... I didn't totally appreciate the fabric differences, but the sillhouette was beautiful, especially on his dark-haired model. I can't help it, I know he's not a favorite but I can't help it.... I LOVE JEFFREY... I even love that he flicks off the other models. Those of you who are offended by it are close-minded bitches who have no sense of humor and probably dress like the bag lady... AKA Angela.
Michael... I love him. His garments ALWAYS fit the model beautifully but in the way where you look at it and think..... "yes, it looks stunning on the model, but I can see it making ME look fabulous." He has an amazing eye for the female shape and what look sexy.. However, it is completely evident how much Nazri was a novelty to him this week, in that his gown looked a little cheap rather than sexy and empowering.... My gut ache was relieved when both Michael and Jeffrey were saved. They are the only two who I think are talent-worthy of being featured in fashion week. Michael and Jeffrey YO, to throw off all you jealous bitches who favor one or the other..... I think they're the BEST!

OK, I am pleased as punch that all four are going, but at the same token, I think Jeffery dropped the ball on this one. Laura well, classic but still the same. Michael, what were you thinking???? And Uli, way to go, would have liked it better in a solid with just a hint of print. Fashion week will be interesting.

I think you guys need to have a junior project runway, there are so many younger designers that would rock the fashion industry. They design for teens and even older (20's 30's) And how about some thing for the larger woman that looks great and sexy too?

I thought Michael, Uli, and Laura should have been the final three. "The Final Fantastic Four" is wrong. The judges and producers bent the rules and rules are not meant to be bent or broken. They lose credibility with this decision. Jeffrey's dress was not true to his signature at all. I don't care if he said he's 80 percent rock and 20 percent romance. He should have delivered at least a hint of what he has been known to do before.

I adore Michael's attitude, talent, humility, and genuine regard for others. He tries to help others with his comments, such as when he said to Kayne, "It cheapens your dress." He attempts to help the competition with his honest critiques because his heart is in the right place. He's a winner. Winners want others to win, too.

The one comment he made tonight that bothered me was when he said about his plum dress, "My dress makes even a white girl look like she has an ass." Correction: White girls do have nice asses. Not all do, but most do. Any female belonging to any race has the odds and chances of having a fine derriere. So, I just want to say that that comment was incorrect and insensitive. It was a stereotype: White girls can't or don't have ample ass assets. Not true at all.

The decision to allow the "Final Four" to show at Fashion Week was probably the best of all possible decisions.
Hopefully these four listened to the judges and to Tim about the scope and range of their collections. And perhaps Michael realized he can be a sensation with sportswear.
Many people have complimented Laura's dresses -- I'd love to have several of them (and one of Uli's for those warm climates). Since Laura doesn't like wimpy comments, I'll add a little edge by challenging her to develop a separate line of professional women's ready-to-wear that is elegant, confidant and appropriate for either the board room or the appeals court. She likes grey and it's a color we need! And the skirts CANNOT BE TOO SHORT. There are requests from my colleagues for some women's skirts that are sold unhemmed -- to give us more length if it is needed. (And now you know why I still sew!) If she can pull it off without a look that is too severe or dowdy, she may have another line that is highly marketable.
And then all of the Final Four can get back to the fun, eclectic, or edgy designs that are appealing to the fashion world and the viewers. It will be interesting to see who the judges select as the competition winner.

I was AMAZED that Jeffrey and his sour disposition is still here but style is unpredictable as Heidi has said before. One day you're in, the next day you're out. I read where people say this is just a competition and Uli was justified in taking Nazri but there is also something to be said for a conscious. Although it is true each designer should be able to design for anyone, Uli's stunt left a sour taste in my mouth, especially since she portrayed herself as the "good girl". She should have shown her true colors, but then, how long would SHE have lasted. I know prints are her muse but surely she can design something else! And what about Jeffrey who was outraged when Michael won two challenges back to back but when he won he placed himself on a pedestal in the heavens? Come on - what a joke - can you say THE LITTLE GREEN-EYED MONSTER WAS HERE! I can say this has been a more interesting Project Runway with the twists and turns in each episode.

Props to the show for keeping the 4 designers in. I really wish they would've kept Kayne in as well. The 5 at the end have such a huge range of design perspectives, it would've been absolutely a treat to see them all show their asthetics on the runway.

Having said that, it's great to see the 4 remain and all showing. This season was clearly the strongest in terms of each remaining designer providing a clear cut perspective on what their strengths are. Uli is the flowy, printy, tropical girl. Laura is the high fashion, impeccable, sophisticated woman. Jeffrey is the rebellious, edgy, straight-arrow guy. And Michael is the sleek, sexy, clean guy. It's going to be fun to watch them at Olympus.

At this point, I would hate to pick a winner from these 4. They are so different that it's unfair to seperate any of them, as I feel all 4 of them complement each other marvelously. You can't ask for more in an evening gown (Laura), a summer beach dress (Uli), a club/rave party dress (Jeffrey), and an everyday wear (Michael)...

Bravo Project Runway! You nailed the 4. I would've loved to have had Kayne in there as well, but the final 4 are a perfect representation of all different views that appeal to basically everyone today.

Michael, Jeffery and Laura all deserve to have their shows at Bryant Park.
Laura definitely needs to step up and show us something different- we know she can do it! Remember her cute jacket/pant set she made for the dog challenge and he modern Katharine Hepburn? She has talent.
Jeffery's style has a touch of John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. He clearly has a point of view on fashion. He deserves this chance.
Michael is wonderful- the way he thinks about details, wearability and shape are just outstanding.
I don't even care who wins- as long as it's not Uli.

WHen Michael came in, I was on the phone to a friend, and said of her makeover, I hoped she wolud choose to put the plain blue on the outside, and accent with the pattern. Still, it was the same old print, flowy, no sleeves, summery, and with a contrasting trim down the center. I am SOOOO sick of this same old thing. A lot of people have already picked it up, but definately, "There's Something About Nazri", pun intended. Nevermind that this girl is gorgeous to look at and equally proportioned in every way (face, legs, hips, arms, shoulders), but this girl has won 4 of the 11 challenges, and with 3 different designers, nonetheless. Uli definately thought Keith had an advantage early on with Nazri, and actually stole her from Keith before she stole her from Michael in the end... Of all the models, I think only Marilinda is equally proportioned...

On another note.... I don't know why - but I had real problems with Uli taking Michael's muse/model. While winners should perhaps get their pick of models in the prior challenges. There is something inherently unfair of changing a model prior to the last challenge before fashion week. Short of rotating models between the designers ( no designer gets to keep his model two challenges in a row.), Models should not be allowed to be changed.

Regardess of whether Michael's model was stunning - and this gave him an unseen advantage. Allowing a change prior to the finals seems poor sportsmanship/ (aka poor seamsmenship) Uli's -- "sorry 'Lindsay' " seemed a bit shallow. Although Uli had designed for her model and there was a working relationship. It is also a model's challenge -with the opportunity for a spread. With the result of Uli's decision her model was eliminated completely from the competion for the spread. Her model had no control over the results.

This was the most liberal project any the designers were offered because they really could have done anything they wanted. In the end, with the exception of Uli, they screwed up badly. Michael's design looked fine on paper but the real thing--awful. I didn't care for the color either. I suppose this is what happens when the designers feel they have to go outside their own box and do something different. There needs to be a middle-ground for them so they can remain who are they are yet stretch their imaginations only so far as to the borders of that box.

Laura's design was basicaly the same as her black and white creation for which she won. I don't think any woman who has more then a two slight bumps on her chest could wear the design in this episode. When you think about it, for someone who's not nearly anorexic, the dress is pretty ridiculous. I was very tired too of seeing the same bland beige and white and black and cream designs. Chic demands color too.

Actually, I liked Jeffrey's design. Sure, you could make a case for it to have looked like something you'd put your groceries in and then pull a string to secure it at the top but the colors were wonderful and the design was very youthful. Provocative no but still, lovely. I don't get the criticism that it was 'too pretty' either. Since when is 'too pretty' unfashionable? If someone had said it was too cute, that would have been different.

When I first saw the fabric Uli had chosen I thought, uh oh, another butterfly design for a woman who'd rather hide her figure than show she has a waistline, but Uli pulled it off. Dumb, she's not. Now, I'd like to see Uli show she can use some solid color and less in-your-face print fabric. Her choices of fabric are too close to what popped out at the world in the 70's. Maybe Laura and Uli need to change emotional spaces for the next final project. They both need to borrow a bit of fashion sense from each other.

Note*** Teri Agins, the Wall Street Journal fashion maven, looked like a throwback to the 50's. That hair and print fabric were were about as fasionable as a HeadOn commercial. Thankfully, PR had the sense to show her from the waist up. That was bad enough. Hard to believe she has the job she has. Harder to believe PR allowed her space as judge.

BTW, Nina lookled hot.
