A Guy Flew Across the World, Waited 10 Days in the Airport for an Online Date Who Never Showed Up

Communication really is key.

Love is exhausting — especially when you travel across the world to meet a girl who never shows up.

Many of us have been stood up, waiting at a bar or restaurant for a date that never arrives. But this story via Mashable of Alexander Pieter Cirk, a Dutch man who flew to China and spent 10 days waiting for her in the Changsha Huanghua International Airport, is breaking our hearts.

Eventually, Cirk left the airport — after being hospitalized for exhaustion.

His online girlfriend of two months, Zhang, told Mashable: "We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous towards me," Zhang said. "One day he sent me a photo of air tickets abruptly, and I thought it was a joke. He didn’t contact me later."

Once her suitor arrived at the airport and tried to contact her, he couldn’t reach her. Turns out her phone was off because she was out of town getting cosmetic surgery!

Apparently, communication — always a key to a good relationship — wasn’t really a component with this couple.

Cirk returned home to the Netherlands after being released from the hospital, and Zhang says they are still in touch, and hope to still meet. Lets hope she’s the one clocking airport time this round.
