The Handmaid’s Tale may have only debuted just last week, but fans ravenous for more of the dystopian novel have a second season to look forward to. Hulu announced on Wednesday that the series, based on the Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, has been renewed and will return in 2018. It was news that star Alexis Bledel was excited about when The Daily Dish spoke with her at the Hulu Upfront Presentation the same day the news broke.

"It's funny, I can't even imagine where it goes in Season 2. I'm so excited to find out," she said. "I still need to watch the rest of Season 1 and I don't know what happens in some of those episodes, so I just can't wait to find out."

Even before the first set of Season 1 episodes premiered last week, the buzz around the show was quite high. And Alexis, who plays handmaid Ofglen, couldn't have ever imagined how enthusiastic viewers would be about the series. "I didn't really have any expectations. I just went into it with an open mind," she said. "I was very focused on creating my character. I wasn't really aware of the outside perception of it, so it's been incredible that people have responded so strongly and we're very honored and appreciative."

The series also brings together Alexis and Elisabeth Moss, serving as a sort of Mad Men reunion of sorts. (Elisabeth, of course, played Peggy Olson on the series, and Alexis played a small part on the series during Season 5.) Alexis calls Elisabeth (who plays another handmaid, Offred) "amazing." She added, "We met when I worked on Mad Men, but we didn't have any scenes together, so we've gotten to know each other better on this show, and I was excited to get to work with her."

Of course any Alexis Bledel conversation turns to Gilmore Girls, which got the revival treatment on Netflix last November. So, does she ever tire of the world's constant fascination with Lorelai and Rory? "I appreciate the enthusiasm," she said. "So it doesn't tire me or bother me too much."

As you might recall, the 2016 revival ended with Rory revealing to her mom that she was pregnant, but not sharing who the father of the baby is. With viewers always clamoring for more Gilmore Girls in their life (though Alexis and Lauren Graham hadn't heard anything about a second season as of last month), should the show come back for another shot, does Alexis know who she would want the dad to be? "I don't know. I don't really invest because I'm not a writer on it," she said. "I don't have any say so on that kind of thing, so I don't imagine the possibilities."
