Alicia Keys has no problem switching things up when it comes her look. We first got to know the singer with her signature box braids, and for the past few years she has been all about embracing her natural curls. But, one thing we’ve never seen from the star is a major hair color change. That is, until now.
Over the weekend, Alicia posted an Instagram photo of herself with her new hair. As the star overlooks her home city, New York City, in a white t-shirt and bright fuschia pants, we also catch a glimpse of her new neon-colored box braids. The waist-length braids include a gorgeous combination of orange, yellow and hot pink, similar to the shades found in a breathtaking summer sunset.
Alicia left both of her Instagram posts without a caption. Which makes total sense, because a bold look like this really needs no explanation. As soon as the posts went up fans flooded the comment section with emoji hearts of enthusiasm.
Last year, Alicia popularized the #Nomakeup movement after deciding that she will no longer hide behind makeup and allow it to define her. "I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing," she wrote in a personal essay for Lenny. Of course Alicia also made it very clear that did this not mean she is anti-makeup. “I think makeup can be self-expression,” she said in an interview with Allure. “I have no intention to shame anyone at all [who chooses to wear it]. No one should be ashamed by the way you choose to express yourself. And that’s exactly the point. However, if you want to do that for yourself, you should do that," she said.
As her latest hairstyle shows, Alicia is very intune with her own sense of self-expression. And we're really hoping to see more of these stunning braids.
