Sometimes, it just seems that two people really, really belong together. Soulmates, meant to be, true love.
They’ve been broken up since October 2015, but the world just can’t seem to accept that Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are really, truly over.
The longtime lovebirds may have the most bittersweet breakup in Hollywood— they remain close and root for each other, no bitter feelings there. They’ve always said their breakup had more to do with constantly being in different locations for work than a lack of love.
"See, I never talk about this stuff for this exact reason—because it's all so speculative and baseless. Once you start responding—once you're like, 'No, that's not true'—then they're like, 'Well, if we push enough, we'll get a comment, so let's see what else we can make up.' I understand the interest in it completely, because I've had it, too. But it's so special to me that it never feels good to talk about, so I just continually don't talk about it. There's probably some rebelliousness that comes out in me after all these stories and people texting you for weeks about something that, for the most part, is not true. But even when it's false, I would rather just let it be false."
Since then, Andrew has said that the actor he'd most want to be stuck on a desert island with was Emma, and has publicly said he’s her “biggest fan as an artist.”
He told Vanity Fair, "I'm constantly inspired by her work. I'm constantly inspired by how she handles and holds herself. So for me, I've—it's been bliss to be able to watch her success and watch her bloom into the actress that she is. And it's also been wonderful to have that kind of support for each other. It's nothing but a beautiful thing."
Last night, it appeared there were still deep feelings there as Emma, looking beautiful, won the Best Actress Oscar for La La Land and Andrew was filmed in the audience getting choked up.
As she was making her speech, he teared up, and the two later had a moment when Emma went over to Andrew and his father sitting next to him, and gave him a hug.
Earlier this year Andrew gave his ex a standing ovation at the Golden Globes, and Emma called the breakup “sad” to Vogue last year. He is “someone I still love very much.”
Come on kids, can’t we work it out?
