Andy Cohen Got Some Major Shade from GQ After Making a Big Summer Style Mistake

The #WWHL host learned to never leave home without reading the invitation.

By Laura Rosenfeld

We don't think Andy Cohen has ever been caught wearing a suit that's anything less than cool and sophisticated. But GQ would beg to differ.

It all started when the Watch What Happens Live host was getting ready to host the 68th Annual Parsons Benefit and Fashion Show honoring Sarah Jessica Parker, Donna Karan, Arianna Huffington, and Beth Rudin DeWoody in New York on Monday. "I was looking for a suit, and I saw this denim suit in my closet, and I thought, 'Oh my God, remember that time you wore that denim suit to a black tie event, and you didn't realize it was a black tie event?'" Andy recounted while serving as guest co-host on LIVE with Kelly Thursday (clip below). "I chuckled to myself, and I moved on."

Andy landed on a mint green suit for the event, which proved to be a big fashion faux pas. "This is a gorgeous summery, spring suit. I'm gonna wear this," he said. "Go to the event. Get out. Everyone is in black tie. I did it again!"

Andy poses in his mint green suit with David Van Zandt, Burak Cakmak, and Joel Towers at the 2016 Parsons Benefit and Fashion Show in New York on May 23, 2016.

Andy described his ensemble as "creative Kentucky Derby" while everyone else at the event was in "creative black tie," as it was listed on the invitation. "I was embarrassed the whole night," Andy said. "I felt like I had a spotlight on me the whole night."

Unfortunately, Andy's outfit did not go unnoticed. GQ panned the outfit in an article posted on the magazine's website the day after the event titled, "How to Avoid This Common Summer Style Mistake." GQ Associate Fashion Editor Liza Corsillo described the suit as "aggressively pastel—like a Smartie or a Jordan almond," his tie was "like a barber-shop pole," and his shoes were "scuffed-up brown wingtips." All in all, the author said the suit made Andy "look shorter and wider than he actually is." Ouch.

GQ was not a fan of Andy's mint green suit at the 2016 Parsons Benefit and Fashion Show in New York on May 23, 2016.

To make matters worse, Andy's mom Evelyn Cohen also commented on his appearance at the Parsons gala, but this time she had something to say about his face. "Seriously Andy, maybe you should see someone about that right eye," Evelyn told Andy via email the day after the event. "I don't mean the wonkiness part, but you half-close it all of the time and it seems to be getting more pronounced."

That was like adding salt to the wound for Andy. "Thank you for the pile-up on me!" he said on LIVE. "I was kicked on Tuesday."

Kelly Ripa said the suit looked "beautiful" and "lovely" during the segment, but that wasn't enough to salvage it for Andy. "I think I may have to burn it," he said about the outfit.

But at least Andy got a very valuable lesson out of this whole ordeal. "I'm gonna send you my invitations to let me know," Andy told Kelly about making sure he wears the appropriate attire to events in the future.

Third time's the charm, right Andy?
