Andys Blog

It's not bloody, but it still seems to be April in NYC, and so maybe that's getting a wee bit tiring and so I might kill someone today. Otherwise everything's FINE here.

Tonight is a brand new episode of Kathy Griffin featuring Paula Deen. It's a REALLY funny one and KG gets surprisingly blue with PDiddy! (And by PDiddy I am referring to Paula Deen and not the artist formerly known as PDiddy.)  It's fairly dark humor, so I love it.

The weekend was so rainy which allowed me to get a lot of work done and that means screening a ton of upcoming shows, and by that I mean Housewives of Atlanta (which makes Season 1 look like going to church), Rachel Zoe (which features more A-List fashion designers than you can imagine), Flipping Out (did Jeff really compare Jenni to Amanda Woodward in the episode I watched?) and Top Chef Masters (watch for all the "Top Chefs" to make an appearance this season.)  There could be worse ways to spend a weekend.  Alternatively, I was at the beach so it would've been fun to SWIM perhaps.

I was secretly psyched when the internet connection at my beach house was screwed up a few weeks ago. I felt like it might give me a simpler, Facebook-free summer.  It's working now, though, which enabled me to waste some solid time online over the weekend, where I saw that this preview clip from the "Jersey" reunion started to make the rounds ...

We can talk more about this later -- or not -- but the reason I was offended was that Joe was using the term as a synonym for "bad" or "stupid." I later told Caroline that if I subbed the word "gay" for "Italian," she wouldn't care for the connotation either. The whole thing is a worthwhile conversation to have, and it is for that very reason that I think it was helpful to see play out in the actual episode at the dance class. It provoked a discussion about whether something is "right" or "wrong" to say and you see everybody's point of view. Housewives is really one big PSA, people!

The LA Times ran a big piece on me Sunday and I was relieved when it went up online on Friday so I didn't have to spend any more of the weekend wondering what the hell was going to be in the article. The author of the piece used to run Gawker so I was a little scared that I was going to fall into his spell and reveal myself to be a total moron. As it happens, I only mildly come off like a tool and there's a not-amazing picture of me in a rumply shirt checking my BlackBerry - but otherwise I thought it was good.

I was watching videos on FunnyorDie yesterday and was psyched to find one called "The Sentimentalist" that my friend Tuc Watkins wrote, produced, and starred in. You may remember Tuc from One Life to Live and Desperate Housewives or perhaps you just remember his overall hot-ness, anyway he's funny too so you gots to check out his video.

OK I am late for work and the trackwheel (I'm actually talking about the PEARL in the middle of the device) on my Blackberry is broken again and I might go bats*** until I get a new one. Have a good day!

I can't understand why the question of whether the Housewives of NJ are part of the mafia isn't considered horribly offensive. It's a terrible sterotype to think just because an Italian-American family is well-off that it must be through crime and not honest, hard work.

Andy--

While I agree that Joe Giudice's comments were ignorant and offensive--and you had every right to be offended--I don't think that starting TWO reunion shows by discussing the women's breasts is a great improvement in taste.

Disgusted

I am reading these post on all the blogs and I am utterly disgusted that people out there honestly applaud these women and men behavior. The whole scene was deplorable. If these husbands are so "good" and "smart" why didn't they stop it sooner, I mean Theresa your husband was smiling the whole time how sick are you people. Class and NJ housewives should never be used in the same sentence. I just couldn't believe I was watching TV Caroline why on earth would you laugh aT the things Theresa was saying in front of Danielle's children???? I guess you only care about your unruly family...no-one else's. I am sure Danielle didn't think that would happen I mean come on...I cannot believe people are saying what you did was Classy??? I guess alot of people in the world also have low morales and characters. You woman none of you should be proud of yourselves what you did was beyond deplorable and you should be ashamed and embarrassed. Please your actions none of you is nothing to be applauded or pleased about. I pray that you, DIna, Caroline, and Danielle see the errors of your ways and realize that the dinner scene did make you all look very very foolish not classy or cute not at all.

Dear Andy,
Liked the article in the LA Times. As for Joe's gay comments, I really don't think that he was using the word gay as a synonym for bad or stupid. I think he just meant, well, gay. Remember he was talking about dancing, which in the machismo world of a New Jersey, um, Italian gentleman, is considered to be particularly gay. Clearly he didn't mean it as bad or stupid since the whole idea of taking dancing lessons was JOE'S. He said on the way in to the dancing studio that it was the gayest thing he'd ever done, but it was his idea! And he was going in! Lighten up & don't be so sensitive!

Great article in the LA Times and great quote at the end "To me it's sociology. To you it may be trash." I'm so glad to hear about your show starting in July...my DVR is already foaming at the bit!! Congrats!

Glad you had a "restful" weekend working!! You should send one of the many interns that we saw interview Vicki on a mission to get your crackberry fixed...I couldn't deal with that, especially since (as you mentioned) it's my/your alarm clark!! Happy Monday!

Andy,

Does the term, "legend in your own mind" mean anything? From housewives to Prep, old money families in New York don't do reality shows and these "comfortable" personalities really don't make the "A" invitation list in New York. Flaunting these so-called socialites may work with people in Iowa but, the old money guard in New York is having lots of laughs at your expense and those featured on these shows.

I just wanted to say I am a fan of all the Housewives shows. I happen to live in New Jersey. I want to know why after the "Last Supper" Danielle was going to drive her children home after drinking all night. Not a very good example for a mother. I know they all were drinking I assume Teresa's husband drove her and Caroline's son drove her and Dina. But come on. They all drink in New York houswives- BUT THEY DO NOT DRIVE!!! I feel that was mpore important than a stupid book!

Hey Andy- I just went over and read the article about you. I thought it was nice! :) I love the way you are so accessible to fans, even though you are busy and important! It makes me feel good when you do viewer mail or comment on our comments; not enough people in the world care to do those things! Keep doing what you're doing!

I though Joe was saying that it was "so gay" because the class was making him feel like he was doing something less than manly, and he felt awkward... I didn't think he was saying the class was stupid.
“That’s so gay” falls into the same category as “Oh my god”… it’s been said so much that people don’t get the negative connotation that may offend some people (OMG is even used in advertising now; while the former really is a PSA). As a Christian, OMG bothers me (ie taking the Lord’s name in vain); however, I’m intelligent enough to understand that when someone says or text OMG it’s not always an intentional bash at God or the Christian faith. It has just become so commonplace and sadly a nonissue in our society.
Danielle made the gay reference an issue because Danielle thrives on conflict – it makes her feel important.

Ok- so Tamra said the word gay in a negative way as well as both Mario and his weird wife (Ramona) but you gave all of them a pass.
Quite frankly I would be more offended by Kathy G when she call her gay fans "my gay" as though you are all the same without any individuality.

Caroline came out in the first few episodes as the one with the moral and values only to bend those values she stood for in the name of family. Morals and values do not compromise for the sake of blood relation. What a disappointment. If your sister murder someone and Caroline covers it, she is as bad as the murderer herself. Get my point.
As for Danielle, there's nothing wrong if she wants to leave her past behind. People do stupid things when they were young but I admire people who inspite of the stupid things they did in the past have learned from it and move on and try to make their lives straight. But Caroline and Dina have of course have some motives of their own to bring it up again against Danielle.
Caroline, you have my respect if you let your little sister stood up for herself and own what she had done and said against Danielle. You got the ball to say to everyone that's it's a lie, a lie when in fact you are the one lying by taking the bullet. Please spare us with your pious and moral and values lecture and try to be true to yourself and everyone.
Jacqueline, you impressed me the most by standing up for what is right regardless it's going to run your relationship with your relatives and standing up for Danielle.
As for Theresa, she's a freak. To call herself classy, I got to excuse myself now to get a bucket. I feel like I wanna to puke.

OK Andy, Last season on RHOC, Tamara saw the sandals that Slade wore to a outdoor party and said that was 'so gay'. Same phrase Joe used. Were you offended when Tamara said it?

Finally caught up with the "Last Supper"..this weekend and it proves my point correctly..the women talk smack about each other and when put on the spot, they get defensive. Also proves the the NJ wives kicked butt to the other cities. The reunion should rock..and to spread it over 2 nights..yum and I say Yum..at least you will have content to fill the two nights, unlike some other reality programming that will remain nameless, but rhymes with Imerican Adol.
