- Andy Cohen offers behind-the-scenes scoop on the NJ reunion, and what he really thought of Joe's gay comment.
As you may know, I folded, threw out all principles, and started tweeting. I'm @BravoAndy (even though some people are telling me they can't find me, I'm there, and I will figure out the problem. Or Anthony will.) So I tried to tweet during the show and I still don't know that I fully "get" it but I think it's now or never for me to tweet. And 140 characters doesn't give me the flexibility I enjoy on this space to wander aimlessly through my vapid thoughts.
I tweeted that I wish I'd have pushed Danielle about her eyebrow lift because it looks to an amatuer like me like she had one. She has a Kidman-esque forehead, but maybe that's the Botox. What do I know???
140 characters was too few to describe the freaky vibe onset; this was the most tense reunion taping I've ever experienced, and I think because there was so much unsaid, under the surface. Trust me, a lot comes out tomorrow but the women were initially incredibly uneasy getting into the dramz. (It wasn't until hour seven when the S hit the F.) They had seen the finale two days before and were somewhat mortified by its intensity and general tableflipping (We talk about that tomorrow). Also, things are VERY unresolved between the sisters and Danielle. Plus there was some residual stuff between the sisters that was still pretty raw.
The set was not my fave of all our reunions, and Bravo exec Jen Levy said it had elements of a Cinderella fantasyscape. We have an amazing set designer who was dealing with the constraints of a teeny studio (that was literally minutes away from Jacqueline's hospital). I think in a huge soundstage that would've looked cool. In case you're wondering, that mound of flowers on the coffee table was in the shape of New Jersey!
And what on earth did you think of NYC Prep? I got an e-mail from furious Andy's Blog reader Wayne who said "I find it disgusting that now we are seeing teenagers flaunting that lifestyle on television with the current economy we are living in." Then Matt tweeted "I detest NYC Prep so much that I will need to watch it w/ hopes of redemption for those brats." Then Liza said she's obsessed and can't wait for next week. So what did YOU think?

Andy, I love you. I love how you handle all the Housewives, you're fabulous and patient when many times, they need to be slapped straight. In order of "like the most" to "can't stand", I like The Real Housewives of NYC, ATL, and OC. New Jersey, stinks, much like the State used to before they cleaned up some of the toxic waste dumps. I checked out the New Jersey wives site for the first and last time, I skimmed quickly through the blogs, just can't take those women, and before I clicked away, looked at the Games. Why on the "Are You a Jersey Girl" Quiz,(which I thankfully failed with flying colors!) does the last question ask which Housewives do you most like (or something like that), the choices are OC, NYC and NJ. Who left ATL off and why? Anyway, doesn't really matter, I won't be watching NJ anymore anyway, but the question needs to be corrected, or conclusions will be drawn, like is BRAVO suggesting a real Jersey Girl couldn't like the ATL Girls? You see what I mean? Not a good inference. Let's not go there, especially since the NJ show is such a stinker anyway. Thanks, keep up the good work!!

Danielle from the real housewives of New Jersey is the best!! People shouldn't judge her for the show. You either love or hate her, just like she said. I love her, She is nice, polite, good spirited, and a very generous person! Look at her in a different light! She is a very strong woman and she just adores her fans. She lives in my hometown and she's simply a great woman!!! :)

Thank goodness, Andy that you spoke out against Joe's comment. We all need to understand how hurtful and inappropriate it is to use gay in a negative context....no back peddling or constant over explaining is acceptable. Not everyone in NJ uses gay in such a negative context...when will people stop and think before being so insensitive?

Andy, you are the best! I almost teared up when you called out Teresa and her husband for using the word "gay" as a synonym for anything negative. IT IS NOT OK TO DO THAT and I'm sure that not everyone in New Jersey uses the term in that manner as we have heard from the cast on the show. This has nothing to do with having a sense of humor, it's just plain disrespectful. I am not gay and I was offended by Joe's comments! I do not believe Joe is a bad guy, but what he did was not right. Hopefully, he learned his lesson.

I've seen a few people comment here that Theresa ended up apologizing for Joe's thoughtless (at best) gay comments. When did this happen? All I heard was her back-peddling and trying to make excuses for why calling someone "gay" is ok and no big deal - I never heard an apology.

You know I think that Theresa and Joe are absolutely adorable you can tell that they are truly in love just by how they act towards each other. This Housewives has been more entertaining than the others.Don't get me wrong I love OC but Tamara is kinda taking over the show, and becoming quite the prima donna. I love every member in New Jersey even Danielle but of course my faves are Caroline Dina and Theresa.

I personally don't care whether Joe used the word with hatred or any other emotion....it is just NOT OK!! Andy had every right - one might even call it a responsibility - to speak out against the casual use of such offensive language and attitudes as those being excused by the 'housewives'. (how would they react, I wonder, to any of the multitude of ethnic slurs about Italians?) I understand that Caroline was trying to excuse/explain the men of her family by her comment that no harm was meant and that Joe was just being 12-years-old for a few minutes....BUT that comment (out of all of the comments flying around) was the one that got me so mad that I had to write!
I raised two sons, and waaaay before they were 12-year olds they were taught better than that! It was NOT funny, it was NOT cute, it was NOT OK!!! PERIOD!!

Andy,
We love the NJ housewives and sincerely hope they will be back next season. We started watching with the last few episodes of OC, completely missed Atlanta then started watching again with NY. We really thought we would not like anyone as much as NY but then the NJ housewives came along and we found we were wrong. Please, please bring these ladies back for another season. They have become "friends" and we want to see more of them. They are such fun and even though they may be a bit "over the top", they show how families stick together no matter what. They may argue and disagree but at the end of the day, they are still family and that's what counts. We are not wild about Danielle, but the other four ladies are terrific. Thank you so much for bringing them into our lives.Fans from Texas
P.S. NYC Prep can disappear right off the air waves.. :(

Its ashamed that a lovely word like "gay" is taken the wrong way. In the old days when you said gay it meant to have a good time, happy time. You can see it in some very very old movies. I am sure Joe didn't mean to hurt anyones feelings. I have relatives who are gay and didn't take any offense to his comment. Yet I can understand how some people today would feel that way. When I hear a kid say "that's so gay" I make sure to correct them.

To call something or someone 'gay' in a derogatory manner is offensive. Don't fall back on that 'people are too sensitive' crap. Every decent human knows that to take something like sexual orientation and turn it in to an insult is offensive. The NJ Housewives are idiots and everybody knows it. To see that they think using 'gay' as a 'figure of speech' is ok, is to me completely 'NJ Housewives'. If someone tells you that they are offended by something and you continue to say it...well that also makes you 'NJ Housewives'. Teresa and Joe don't have two brain cells to rub together and they proved it all season. Seriously, no more air time for these people. I'm embarrassed for them.

I loathe all of the NJ women, and hope Bravo does NOT bring them back for another season. This season was depressing, and not at all fun, with a bunch of lying liars who lie. Worse, they are all BORING. The "book" is boring. I will not be watching these women again. If you must do a NJ series, I'd recommend starting over with an entirely new cast.

Wish we could all get over labeling period. No one should be pointed out as gay, black, white, Latino, etc. We are else male or female. When we all do not have the same inners then maybe start labeling but until then "STOP THE PAIN". Know it is easier said then done and looking at your own self is one of the hardest things to do in this world but the way the world is now some are facing that quicker than they expected. We are all finding out whom our friends really are if there are any and most are not able to handle that. Be proud of who you are.

If, as most of the comments state here, the "gay" comment was offensive and should not be used, then, ALL of the ethnic/racial/gender/sexuality preference, stereotype references to ALL groups of individuals, etc., etc. comments on ALL of the housewife shows and fashion shows, and cooking shows, and women shows and men shows will all have to stop. If BRAVO can't air these things, then, who can? Most of the comments about gays on these shows are made by gays.. They call each other gay, queens, make light of/fun of their dress, feminine ways, voices, etc., just like they did on "Will and Grace" show. Right after the whole gay word fiasco at the reunion and after Teresa apologized for her husband's comment, they all, including Andy, talked about Italians, mob stereotypes, the paying with cash innuendo, big hair, the way they dress, their sexual histories, etc. So, maybe Teresa and the other women should have been offended, also!! Why is it all groups are up for grabs with talking about them and criticizing them, except when it comes to gays or blacks. Everyone jumps out of their seats when someone talks about gays or blacks, but, it is OK to offend women, the Italians, Jewish, Irish, Asian, etc. stereotypes???

Andy, I believe you have talked about your being gay on other shows/blogs, so those who are saying you just "outed" yourself? That didn't seem to be the case..and, that was your choice.. I think the word, "gay" and various uses of the word have been used on ALL of the housewife shows before and no one made a stink about it. Who took more flack with "gay" comments than Alex's husband, Simon, on The OC Wives show? So, why the big deal, now, over Teresa's husband saying it about dancing lessons? And, Teresa did apologize. Did anyone apologize for the thousands of "Italian", "mob", "whore", "prostitute", "Barbie", "gold digger", "stage mom", "bitch", other derivative comments about women etc. that are constantly used weekly on these Bravo shows? If people want to be "politically correct"/not hurt anyone's feelings or use racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation words or comments, then, Bravo is finished!! Every show and every commenter use them all of the time in reference to the cast, others, etc. on all of these shows. In fact, most of the gay people on these shows, esp. Project Runway, the Fashion show, Top Chef, and all of the Housewife shows have all used them ..even use them in jest about themselves!! Get over it or don't watch if you are so sensitive. We all have our stereotypes... men, women, etc.

These NJ Housewives are so shallow and boring they needed Danielle to give the show any life. What other topic did they have. They may be suspicious of Danielle but I think the IRS might be suspicious of them paying their bills with cash instead of writing checks.

I was very sorry to hear you say that the comment offended you. I must agree with your reaction. Anyone using those comments as humor must be cognizant of how others will take those comments. Hi Andy,
First I must tell you that I think you are a WONDERFUL moderator and something you should always remember is that you can't please all of the people all of the time and people who would like to have others fired because they happen to disagree with their views definitely display some level of immaturity and should be thought of as such.
I do wish you would mention if Jackie Warner and her entourage will be returning anytime soon.I also enjoyed the millionaire match maker, as well as the New York and Orange county Housewives. I do like Jill and her Mom a lot they seems to be very caring and I do have some very useful information I would like to share with her about her daughter's arthritis that I am sure will be most helpful. Andy: I think the way you laid it all out in your blog was just fine. You said you didn't think Joe meant any harm but you thought it could have been offensive to some. As a conservative republican, believe me, it is refreshing to hear an honest up front opinion without any false feigning of victimhood. Any way, unless we can really walk in someone else's shoes we can't always know what is and is not offensive to some. I appreciate your comments. Teresa did go on to appologize and that was the right thing for her to do.

Andy,
I being a gay man as well, agrees with your comment. I to found it offensive. To many people are using the work "gay" out of context today. To compare someones sexuality and idenity to being stupid, or using the word in some degrading way is getting out of hand. Even kids in middle and high schools are saying "thats so gay" I think is hurting the gay society. I appauld Danielle for standing up for her gay friend. I think if there were more Daneille's and Andy's in the world standing up for all of us, we would have a much better society.

Being from the generation a little older than Joe & Teresa, we used to say "that's so gay", or "you're so gay" all the time growing up. It never had anything to do with sexual orientation, we didn't even really know about homosexuals at the younger ages, it was more to do with someone acting overly girly, or feminine, mostly used against the guys though. They never took the insult as meaning they liked boys, but they were acting like a girl which probably was the worst insult of any! Being older now, I realize that most would find it insulting but I think most use it in the way I first mention, and not trying to insult someone. Was the guy gay? Who knows, who cares. I'm sure Joe didn't know what the guy does in bed and with whom, so it couldn't have been meant against the guy's sexuality, just how he was acting. And don't some gays act all poofy & feminine anyway? Y'all want to be out & open, just get thicker skin.

- get over it, Please..
Get over it... The entire Bravo line up of shows outs and promotes gay people.. (the fashion shows, chef shows, and some of the cast of characters on all of the shows). Most DO promote the feminine stereotype of gay people. The NJ wives show makes fun of,stereotypes Italians, the OC wives blond "barbies", the Atlanta show, "black women", country singing, etc. Every show promotes stereotypes, airs ethnic, racial, sex type comments and criticisms, so, if you and others can talk about "big hair", Italian tempers, "queens" on the fashion shows, etc., etc. ..then, accept that acting "feminine", dancing, designing, etc., is considered a gay trait just like "big hair" is for NJ women, "tempers" are for Italian women, "Mob" connections is for Italian businessmen.. Every show on Bravo has aired negative comments about every group of people in the US and in the world.. so, if the gays can't take it, then, don't dish it out. How about Merlin on the Fashion Show?? Has he apologized for all of his "barbie" or womanizing comments? Then, why should Teresa and Joe have to publicly apologize for the gay comment which was about men who like to dance or take dance lessons??

Hey Andy,
Just saw the reunion episode. It was something. Who knew when you guys were choosing the city, that it would get this juicy. Bet you couldn't believe your luck.
About the gay comment...
Bravo(pun intended), for backing Danielle up. I also thought you did it in a classy way. Pointing out the difference between intent, and just the action itself. And while not making a big deal about it, pointing out that it is offensive to some.
There is a difference in saying that someone is homophobic, and that a comment is offensive. Whether Theresa's husband is homophobic or not is another topic. But it dumbfounds me that people wouldn't realize why some people might accuse him of being insensitive, and worse, that if you aren't all on board and ready to back up bantering at a group's expense, you are in the wrong, or crazy. NEWSFLASH PEOPLE, yeah you in the stretchband pants, that is asking why everyone didn't find his comments as funny as you did: using gay to mean, "stupid" "cheap" "underhanded"(used in sports or games alarmingly frequently) can be offensive to some people both gay and straight, ugh let alone the word "gaylord" Really? I could have sworn that word had died out by now. I know crazy, but yes you heard it here. It is in the realm of possibility that some don't care for it, however it is intended. A simple "sorry, I'll try and be more careful in the future", is all the is needed to move past the event. The last thing anyone wants to hear is how many gay friends you have. It's such a pathetic. defense. And does much to belittle your friendship, to be used as a disclaimer for cracking derogatory jokes.
What really pisses me off is when these viewers say things like, "me and my gay hairdresser, were talking about it and we thought it was ridiculous that you got upset over it" blah blah blah. Trust me, he didn't love the comment, but he isn't going to share that with a paying customer. We play off whether we are bothered by these things, and yes I nor Andy won't lose any sleep over an offhand, insensitive comment. But when someone, especially one who isn't gay, has the guts to stand up and say, hey, please try and not use terms like that, and they are attacked, from all sides, rather than a simple, 'sorry bout that, I'll stop." yeah it pisses me off. It wasn't the comment that became such a big deal, it was that so many would try and defend it.
Anyway some people get offended, true story!
People also made a big deal about Tamra, and why you didn't lay into her. People, get it through your heads. Andy is not the gay police. He didn't cry himself in a corner when he heard Tamra. the world is what it is, and thousands of people across America make comments like that casually. It's not Bravo's job to police it. They only show what goes on, and it's up to you all to discuss around the copier. I feel for you, Andy that you have to put up with such idiocy. He's not trying to make personal statements, but I get why in the face of 4 people attacking a woman for sticking up for her gay friend, you would want to step in and say, Hey chicas, she is not a nut for finding that comment offensive.
/end rant.

Hi Andy, I'd rather not go into a long detailed message about NYC prep, but I will say that I will not be watching this show. The kids (yes kids) on there act like they are gods gift to man and quite frankly the show is a little immature. If I were these kids, I'd be embarrassed to be on this show. Since it's still early in the season, I can't be too harsh, but from what I have seen, I don't like it. I will say that it is coming from a completely different angle than what Bravo usually does - which is great. But I do not care to watch some 15-16 year-olds drinking underage and walking around NYC like they actually contribute to our society. To me it just looks like they waste their time and money doing things that make them feel better about themselves. Not my type of show.

You know what, I agree with you Andy, I don't care if it was a joke, it was offensive, like a joke with black people, latin people, jews. It's not just funny anymore. They don't like when people make fun about jersey girls, bad accent, big hair, mob thing whatever, it's the samething, is discriminatory, The guy, Joe, he knew there was cameras everywhere, his comment would be heard and was unpleasant comment. I'm a woman, I'm not gay but I have many gay friends and I hear jokes and comments like that all the time, and it hurts. It is 21 century for god sake, if you are not capable to come up with any original funny or positive comment, keep your mouth shut, at least on camera.

Andy,
I completely agree with you on how Joe didn't use the word with any form of hatred for the gay community, but I can totally see how it could be offensive of how he meant the word. I wish that people will realize that gay is not the synonym for stupid or bad, and if they can't they should go find a thesaurus.
And for the people who judging Andy for expressing his opinion, should really think about. You are just being ignorant and there is no other way to put it. But again, you have your opinion an I have mine, and I have to respect that, but in return you should respect the opinions of those who found offense to this.

Andy, I completely agree with your reaction and am glad that you were there representing what I think all gay people should naturally feel about that type of comment. I think it's a shame that people casually throw around the word "gay" without regard to its actual meaning. People don't realize the subconscious long-term societal consequences that truly exist when it becomes "just a slang figure of speech" to take a word completely out of its proper context and meaning and attach negative associations to it or use it as a stand-in for a word like "stupid". It's just ridiculous. Thank you for properly representing a mature person's reaction to the situation. It's important to pay attention to what words really mean and the impacts of their improper usage.

Gosh, I have never spent such time obsessing about a TV Program in my life! (And, Andy, I will never reveal my age, but I have lived a long long time!) This is an anthropological phenominon!
I don't want to reiterate all of the commentary-- and I am very sensitive to the "gay bashing" talk and agree that is is offensive--but I would like to point out something that might not be so obvious to those who are young and educated:
There are still people who are living in cultural bubbles. These bubbles are self-contained because the inhabitants all go to the same grammer and high schools and get jobs in the same neighborhood and never meet people outside of the "bubble". They most likely all go to the same church, and they most likely marry a family friend. A lot of these bubbles happen to consist of descendents of Italian immigrants. Like Italy with it's hundreds of language "dialects", these "Italian Americans" are as different from eachother as the provinces of Italy! Add to that, the Sicilians, who sometimes claim to be "Italian" and are looked down upon by the "real" Italians! So, to those "Italian Americans" who note that Teresa and Joe are nothing like any "Italian" they know, well, they are right! It's just that all the world is seeing what they think is the "real Italian", but really only seeing one tiny cultural bubble!
And the viewers can learn something: Not all the world is educated or aware! Had Teresa gone away to college and met a few people who were "different", she would have quite a different level of awareness! If you had thought of them in that context, Andy, would you have been as surprised as you and the viewers were?
I liked your comment to Teresa--you made her aware for the first time. She learned something. By being on the show she has increased her learning and awareness of the world, and has shown the world how different we all are. For this reason, I stand up to the ridicule of friends and spouse who ask, "How could you watch such trash?" I say it's better than Shakespeare!

You know what, Andy...I enjoyed watching those ladies for only one reason...because of how cute you are. What a stud! You don't know the thrill I experienced when I heard your announcement of your sexuality. I went to sleep with the hope that maybe one day...well, you know.

Andy,
First would like to say that you re my favorite host. I want you to continue to host the reunion shows. The housewives of New Jersey was my favorite series. I think that this family is amazing. The sisters are beautiful. I love them all. I think Dina is the sexiest. Love her lips and her laugh totally sexy. She has a very lucky husband. The sexiest man on the show is Joe. Not the tough guy image we were expecting. His love for his family is awesome. Theresa is the funniest in the group. Caroline I love you. Stay strong and keep your beautiful family together. I can't wait till next season. Get rid of the whore Danielle. She is pure devil. Don't fall for her fake tears. Keep your families away from her. She is dangerous.

Andy, I love your reunion shows and wonder how you've kept your sanity dealing with all the drama. I don't believe that Joe meant anything by the gay comment but even so people have to be aware of what they say and how it will impact on others. The only saving grace that Danielle had was that she understood that. That being said, I hope she will truly get some help in the way of counseling. She has no self esteem at all even though she puts on a good front. She makes terrible choices...her young boyfriend and sex in raunchy places, and the phone sex and willing to meet this guy in person. She has those two daughters to think about and to be a good example to.Little girls are so perceptive to their Mothers' feelings and moods. I hope she does get help for their sake if for nothing else.I love you Andy Cohen and you do a great job with these drama divas.

Frankly, I think using the term "gay" is a compliment to that person.......it is not a "negative" term in my part of the world....usually means tasteful, cultured, fashionable, artistic, etc....
Do you think one should be offended when referred to as a fag hag? I'm not ......

I am sooooo tired of having to step on eggshells around people. You can't even use the word gay in a sentence anymore without someone being offended by it. Pretty soon there will be a law that no one can say the word gay. Please enough of this!!!!!

1.) I also think it's offensive when people call someone "gay" meaning "Stupid."
2.) I used to work with a girl who was totally pathological and Danielle reminds me of that girl. Defending all gays everywhere, taking on a persecution complex over it, meanwhile treating the humans in front of her like dirt.
3.) Andy Cohen, you are amazing and there was a scene in this reunion when someone said something shocking and you looked over in surprise and horror, and it was just hilarious. I can't remember even what was said, but it was super funny.

I am a teacher at a high school in the Midwest and using the word "gay" as an adjective to mean "stupid" happens all the time. I try to address it as much as possible and tell them to just be more careful of their language, because some day in a business setting they never know who they might offend. It's just like saying something is "retarded" or someone is a "fag" for saying or doing something stupid. This language cannot be tolerated because you never know who it might hurt. To defend it like Teresa did was so childish. Thank you, Andy, for making those women squirm.

Thanks, Andy, for pointing out that the "gay" and "gaylord" comments could easily be offensive. I'm Italian (I've never flipped a table, and I'm half-Sicilian) and gay (yup, I took offense) and found the excuses made by Teresa and Caroline really lame. People who want you to "lighten up" or "get over it" just don't want to look at their own behavior and beliefs.
On an only-marginally related topic...please, PLEASE no season 2 for NJ. Manufactured drama, missing husbands and housewives that seem to feel like the whole affair was a burden and a mistake - not good TV. Obnoxious, really.

Andy, I'm going to raise the bullsh!t flag here on a couple of things. 1-Joe knew exactly what he was doing when he called the dance intructor that name. He meant it as an insult. And I am so tired of people saying he didn't mean anything by it. And the gay community has every right to be insulted. Just because he has a brother-in-law and (supposedly) some friends that are gay, doesn't mean that he doesn't have some ill-concealed feelings for gays. He obviously does or he wouldn't have bashed one on camera. If he would have called a black dance instructor a N****, the black community would be outraged. Same thing. 2-While I have mixed feelings about Danielle, I feel like she was constantly attacked and ganged up on the reunion show. Everyone has skeletons in their closet, even the three ganging up on her. They are not perfect. What she went thru was a long time ago, and they decided to discuss the dirt on her, so she attacked back. Kudos to her. I just hope it doesn't hurt her in the long run. I find it funny that they sure wanted to bash on her for her past, but the minute something was brought up about one of their family members and the past, they got all defensive and said it had nothing to do with the show. Ladies----your lives are an open book now, so suck it up! Inquiring minds want to know! You ought to know this well,,,,,,,hence your 'inquiring minds' into Danielles past.
I loved the show and hope that a second season is picked up and really hope that Danielle is brought back. Much love from Kansas.

Andy, when you get down to it hetros nor homos own the GAY word.ITs a feeling and a way of expressing feeling good.We ALL need to get over using the word in any other way then what it was meant to be used for.its a feeling of happiness and greatness nothing wrong with that if you look at it that way.

I too have never watched one of the Housewive's series and became totally hooked on NJ. As a New Yorker transplanted to NJ, I've lived among women who are very much like this group. It is amusing but a little sad at times to see such emphatically opinionated people dishing out their sage advice. Do any of these women have an education beyond high school? It would be far more interesting to introduce new characters from their part of the state who have lived real lives...gone to university...worked in Manhattan etc. That's when the real stories can unfold. Oh also, most housewives in NJ are driving their kids around constantly to lessons, sports, friend's homes etc.We didn't get a glimpse of that during the series. Maybe next season...Congratulations on the success of this show.

Andy , we are with you....do people not watch those commercials on tv..especially when the NO ON 8 in CA was so big...it showed 2 girls is store saying...THAT IS SO GAY...and a woman turns around and says..what is your name..she says...(lets say..Jenny)..then the girls says..how would you like people to say...THAT'S SO JENNY...they were at a loss...young teenagers had no clue..YOUR SO GAY...is YOUR SO STUPID..OR YOUR SO DUMB...GAY IS AS OFFENSIVE AS "N" WORD...OR "F" WORD...SO WATCH WHAT YOU SAY PEEPS..
I AM SO GLAD YOU "OUTTED" YOURSELF ...B4 ANYONE ELSE DID..BETTER PUTTING IT TO REST..THEN NO ONE HAS ANYTHING TO SAY..YOU SEE HOW FAST THE NJH PASSED RIGHT BY THAT..DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY..WE HAD OUR MOUTH OPEN TOO....BRAVO ANDY...WE LOVE YOU...

For Teresa,
As you were leaving the restaurant you tated that you were a person with a lot of class, just exactly where is that class. I certainly didn't see it on the show (at the restaurant) when you were flinging tables around and using the "F" word every time you opened your mouth. And than (what were you thinking) by saying that how you acted turned your husband on! PLEAZZE! I think the one person on the show that has class is Jacqueline. She doesn't start screaming at someone right away. She listens and then lets loose. I kinda of felt sorry for Danielle, however, she brought this book thing up at the wrong time. Don't lower yourself or your children by doing this in public. As far as Caroline and Dina are concerned, they are interchangeable, when Caroline said her family is as thick as thieves and she will defend them to the end, I felt that she was lying about the book, and trying to protect her baby sister, Dina.

Of course the "gay" comment was derogatory and offensive, but the subsequent remark made by Theresa was much worse. When she was defending herself by presenting evidence that she has a gay friend, she described him as "REALLY gay." WTF?

i have to agree with andy on this one. how should one feel if someone took an adjective that describes an aspect of who a person is and recast it to mean 'stupid" or "lame". i could roll my eyes right now and say "thats so effing Andria." and what, then, if it caught on, and everyone began to use that word that describes a part of who you are to mean ridiculous, lame, etc. i find it hard to believe that it wouldn't elicit a self-conscious reaction. how could it not? to take a word that encapsulates an ontological truth of who a large percentage of our population are and give it derogatory meaning - even if it is said with levity and no intentional hurt - it still isn't right. it attaches a new meaning to that word that is 100% negative - as that expression is generally used to connote frustration, dislike - and absolutely has the potential to be hurtful. if for no other reason than that it MIGHT make a gay person within earshot feel self conscious. why is gay lame?
it ISN'T, and people shouldn't cruise around making that association - one which is inherent in any comment where the word gay is used to mean lame. basic logic. that's so gay - to mean "that's so lame" -- it would then follow that in that persons vocab gay = lame, even if they don't think gay people are lame.
a
next thing you know, we're going to be reading viewer comments defending phrases like "you arent trying to jew me out of my change are you? - but no offense to jews, of course..."

Andy...THANK YOU!!!!! the discussion about using the word "gay" to describe things as not cool must be opened up. I am a 27 year old lesbian who dislikes the PC nature of our country, however, when equal rights do not exist for gays and lesbians and hate crimes are as prevalent as they are, we cannot allow for flippant comments to pass us by. I felt a sense of pride (and must admit my jaw hit the ground) when I heard you admit to being gay and admit to being offended by the comment. Thank you for speaking your mind and for using your position as host to address this issue as it is a much larger issue than many heterosexuals can possibly see. While I do not think Joe intended to be hurtful or hateful, his comment was ignorant. Minorities need to speak out against comments that flippantly promote degradation. Thank you for speaking up. I am truly inspired!

Dear Andy,
number one I love how you know when to push and when lay back and watch the drama happen right in front of you. Two, I am Rainbow Friendly and love going to weho (West Hollywood). I do think that words can be used in a hurtful manner, I HOPE that Joe did not use it in a hurtful manner. But I am so glad that you brought this topic up so that people who are not rainbow friendly will understand how hurtful a word can be.

Andy,
I want to applaud you for noting that the "Gay" comment is & was offensive. I believe what the ladies are negleting to realize is that using the term "gay" as a synonym for "stupid" is what's offensive. After, viewing Teresa with her daughters, home frenzy, accesory craze, violent outbreak and her ignorance on failing to realize that comment is very offensive to some, I realize she has no class or clue. The other ladies are making it ok and I am disappointed how some people fail to realize this. Thank you for speaking up and putting her in her place.
BRAVO!

Sorry, I am not saying you do not have a sense of humor but I feel that maybe the comment was made because of a comment made by the dancer to Joe was not appropriate. Danielle, took it to heart not in defense of the dancer but because she wanted to go toe to toe with Joe and also what was with her offensive remark to Teresa? If you don't see that part, then like Danielle, you see and hear what you want to hear..
Aside from this moat point, you handled the show with extreme care and I was glad for that. I was more upset for the friends than for Danielle. she made her own mess and tried to plead her innocence but I wasn't believing it. she put people in a corner and expected them to cower and she met the wrong crew. These ladies were not a force to be reckoned with.

Andy,
I salute you!!! Maybe back in the days meaning the closet days. It was ok to make a gay comment and not say anything. You can only lead by example. Those two classy people the biggot and the table flipper, might think that money buys class but actually brings out what you lack of. Secondly, Teresa stupid, dumb Teresa. The only reason you became so upset was because it touched a nerve. If you wouldn't think that you are stupid you would have not flipped that table. Danielle, I think it took a big set of balls to do what you did. To bring up the book amongst those thieves.

Andy you are soooo cute...I agree with you..it was a teachable moment...there are PSA's about not using the word GAY in a derogatory context....how would the world be if everyone just said "That's straight" when they meant "that's wack or lame"...its not that you took seriously..you contained something that could have been more damaging..it was one of the few moments I actually kinda liked Danielle...

As an Italian lesbian I would like to say that I don't remember the last time a teenager committed suicide because they were Italian. Maybe Joe didn't mean anything by his remark but all straight people need to know that it isn't only offensive and in poor taste but it is also very dangerous.
PS not all Italian women flip tables, but maybe a new trend has been started,

Let me begin by saying, I love all the "realhousewives...all states!" My favorits "was" OC, being that I'm from California..But I really don't like the girls that are on now.. but hey love the drams so whatever...My absolute new fav is the New Jersey girls!!! And I absolutely can't wait for next season!
but in response to the gay slurr...I don't belive he was using "gay" as "stupid" at all.. I think he was truly referring to the body moves and dance style, I know alot of my gay friends move in a more feminine matter..not all..but alot. And I think that is what Joe was really meaning about not being able to move that way because its "gay." But i do hear "gay" used in replace of "stupid" and I can see how that can be offensive..
I'm gay, and I don't take direct offense to it because even the term "gay" is used so broadly..now if they start using "homosexual" in replacement of negative slurs such as "stupid" then I would consider taking offense..

Andy, it's incredible to me that people have said that using the term gay to connote stupidity is not a slur!! It's a slur and shouldn't be used by anyone. As an Italian-American woman raised in Brooklyn NY, I don't like to hear people assume that all Italians have Mafia connections; nor do I like to hear the words "wop" or "guinea" applied to Italians. I don't think that any of the women on the show would appreciate being called these names either, even if there was no malicious intent by the speaker. I also noted that they seemed very hurt and insulted by the idea that there was a mafia connection in their family - more proof that applying stereotypes to people is hurtful and should not be tolerated by anyone!

Hello Andy,
Am I alone? I thought Joe made a soto voco comment, under the breath, in which he used the word Gay, and that he was referring to the samba dancing as feeling feminine, that he felt a bit out of place with the samba dancing. I'm sorry if anyone was offended. I definitely did not take his comment to mean "Stupid," but rather "feminine," in the sense that he felt less than comfortable.
What Danielle does not seem to get is that her comment in response, something to the effect of "Don't talk to me that way; or Don't try to shut me up, I'm not your wife," was extremely insulting to Teresa. This type of behavior was a pattern with Danielle, but no one could comprehend why she would deliberately choose to insult her hostess for the evening.
So why are we wasting any time on a comment that was not intended as an insult? Odd, it is, indeed.
Andy, this Housewives of New Jersey series really blew the whole idea of the Housewives' series. Drop this one, please. Let's definitely not have a season two.

Hated the comment "gay" and the excuse Theresa gave of her husband, we all know that when men say those kind of comments is because they are insecure of themselves as individuals, I mean, do you see how Joe looks and do you see the looks of the guy he's calling gay. And yes, I think it is shameful if you think that calling anybody gay it's just a JOKE because of the way they look.

Hey Andy,
Anyone who has followed Bravo knows your gay and could care less!! Your a great host and manage the reunion shows well. I feel for Danielle, she is tiny and shriveled up. This can't be good for her but I'm not sure she gets that. I will watch tonight if only to see what Jacqueline may have to say about not being friends with Danielle any longer.
If there is a second season, I hope that Danielle focuses on her group of friends....
