I am so into Nelly's new song "Just a Dream" -- are you??? And good morning from Washington D.C., where I am about to spend the day in the middle of a tornado. Think about it.
It was fun having my parents in town for the weekend. Friday night we went to Danny Meyer's new Italian (Roman, actually) restaurant Maialino at the Gramercy Park Hotel. It was fantastic. Everyone was kvelling over the fig/ricotta/honey appetizer, and I loved the branzino.
Saturday we hit the streets, and I got a little overexcited by some luggage purchases at Jack Spade. Since when does luggage make me happy? How ancient am I? We also found a cool shirt at the new Gant store on Bleecker Street. They have cool stuff and are clearly modernizing their whole image with the addition of a Michael Bastien For Gant line of stuff.
Saturday night we saw The Pitmen Painters at Manhattan Theater Club. This is a brand new import from the UK written Lee Hall, who wrote Billy Elliot. Mr. Hall really excels at stories of miners finding the arts; this play is the true story of a group of miners in the 30s who become painters. I don't know if that sounds funny or smart or moving or engaging to you, but that's exactly what the play is. We loved it. We went deep about it at Joe Allen, and then I met friends at Bar Centrale, where I ran into Promises, Promises stars Tony Goldwyn (superhot) and Kristen Chenoweth (supernicecute and superbig Bravo fan).
Sunday was very High Line and Sundayish day that ended with me on the Acela getting a ton of work done and skimming the Sunday NY Times, which had an awesome Vows column chronicling Kelly McGillis' time swimming in a sober ladypond with her ladylover. I think I read it twice. Kelly is a survivor and a mom and a lover and a sober lady. You have to read this piece.
I was Mad Men-less last night because my hotel room doesn't get AMC (they happily get Bravo though) so I watched Keeping Up with the Kardashians for the first time. It is oddly addictive and Kim Kardashian (who I maybe haven't ever seen speak a word) seems really likeable. And Bruce Jenner's face is something along the lines of Donald Trump's hair, in that you can study it for hours. And is he drunk a lot? And some of their acting is pretty good. And why do they call their mom "Kris?" And did she really wet her pants last night on the show? Or was she acting? And someone needs to explain Kim's sisters to me; I get why I am supposed to like Kim, but can someone talk to me about the sisters?? I know they have taken over the world and are bigger than Jodie Foster at this point but someone needs to take it three steps back and explain them to me.
Tonight is a new Thintervention and if you're not watching I need to ask "why not!?"
Andy, please get them to talk your show to a full hour. Do your same format, love it but just wished you had an hour and could get into a recap of all the shows that played that week. Kinda like a Talk Soup but for only the bravo shows. Maybe show clips of things that didn't make it to air, have two guests, one for the first part and another for the second, just something. There is so many shows running on Bravo now that I think you could easily do an hour!! and next time, when you take vacation, have someone guest host for you lol LOVE WWHL. Also love it on Thursdays as its at the end of the week and could cover all the past weeks shows!!
How refreshing to read a blog with such positivity and enthusiasm. It seems you had a very nice weekend with your family and was able to do so many fabolous things around NYC! Your sense of humor and personality keep BRAVO alive and I look forward to ''Watch What Happens'' every week now. Enjoy DC despite the tornado and have a pleasent flight back as well:)
I love the Kardashians, they are crazy but loving, and supportive of each other, plus they have FUN!!! As to the Kris thing, well, she can seem a little like a sister and not a mom, so it probably just makes it easier for her to hang with the The best part of that show is Bruce Jenner!!! freaking love him
Kourtney is the best sister! Her dry humor is amazing. I can't stand Kim. And they call her Kris because they're disrespectful children lol.
I LOVE that you are admitting that the people on reality shows are ACTING - the Kardashians and all of your Bravo shows as well. Finally!
as a mom of 56 I love these smart girls. They are very comfortable with the camera and are confident enough not to give a ----. a couple things, Khloe is strong and a power, and as most of those do she makes mistakes and misjudgements and oh but wait! A young woman able to admit she was wrong, say what would have been better, and apologise! Holy cash cow, in this day and age she's a breath of fresh air. But you know what I love the best about these beautiful woman, they have all dated people of different skin color and it's never mentioned, talked about , alluded to, because it's obvious it is not noticed at all by anyone in this family. It gives me hope. NO one one is talked about as a skin color or a sexual preference, like ever. it's so refreshingly the way I'd always hoped it could be, I can't turn them off. I love these girls Oh and Khloe and Lamare... my guess is they will be married forever. they just work. who knew.
Andy we can watch amc etc for a movie. Please run Bravo shows instead of these damn movies you are running for most of the day. We tune in to your network for all our fun crazy housewifes, topchef, flippingout thinintervention, justdesserts, I mean come on. Your going to start loosing viewers if you don't get back to your orginial format Thankyou, Maureen It was great seeing your parents. You never would of known your Mother was practicing all evening. God Bless her heart. Your a lucky man to have such wonderful parents. Good God get rid of Theresa!! Anyone that lays a hand on you Andy in my book should be gone but fast!! It reminded me of bullying someone that is gay.
if you can get through interviews with housewives like danielle, kelly, michaele, kim and nene then you can handle any tornados that mother nature can throw at you haha
Love your show and am enjoying Real Housewives of DC. At lease these women actually do something!! Regarding the Kardashians, if my daughters used the inappropriate and disrespectful language and behaved in totally inappropriate manner, I would find myself in a mental institution somewhere. But you have to hand it to Kris they have all made a boat load of money due to her managing them. Consider this....they do not do anything, but look good. Amazing!!
ANdy, I am with you. I totally get why I should like Kim. She's hot but her sisters I don't quite get. The tall one is obnoxious and mean. The other one is cute but quiet.
The video below is why I relate to Khloe Kardashian - she is someone ordinary people can relate to in a land of glamourous celebrities.
As I've watched the Kardashians, I've realized that they're also not the one-dimensional glamor gals we thought they were. Are they perfect? No. But they generally use their marketing genius for good.
