- Andy Cohen reacts to Joel Osteen's comment about homosexuals on 'The View.'
TONIGHT is big on Bravo. It's Part 2 of the Atlanta reunion, featuring Kim's performance of "Tardy for the Party" and lots of other laughs. Then buckle up for the premiere of Season FIVE of The Real Housewives of Orange County! THEN I am live with Gretchen and Tabs and Kim
Zolciak at midnight.
I'm exhausted already.
I can't believe that Joel Osteen went on The View and said that homosexuality "isn't God's best." As pissed as I was about this Maine thing, this further whipped me into a lather. What would people be saying if he said that about fat people or black people or Italians? I kinda thought God loved everybody, but maybe I'm an old simpleton from another era and I should check out his rankings of where everybody stands.
Where does Joel Osteen rank Lady Gaga on God's List? How about Jeana Keough? Susan Lucci? Roberta Flack? Zoila??
I had a great lunch at the Monkey Bar (lunch is always great there) yesterday with Isaac Mizrahi. He is a hilarious joy to be around. So who is at the table next to us but Ms. Star Jones, who I found myself in a tweet war with a few weeks back after I tweeted about her weave in
that very same restaurant. So we're all made up now and she has a great sense of humor. And she said I don't know a thing about her hair because I haven't run my hands through it. And I didn't take that as an invitation but I would gladly do so.
I just got into work and I have three Housewives on my phone sheet. It's going to be a long day...
CAB REPORT: the debate every morning is whether to take 8th Ave or 6th Ave, and it's a maddening one because there's just no right answer. I found out this morning that Matthew Broderick believes that 6th Avenue is absolutely better and that this particular equation is called "the 6th avenune anomoly." So now I gotta tell my cab driver — he'll be thrilled.

"I love you, Andy.

" HAHA I was wondering when someone would post something like that. Seriously though dude, we all love you. I don't believe in God but if I did, I'd believe in a god who didn't think I was imperfect because of who I fell in lovew with.

He never said God does not care or love you, he does. None of us are really capible to live sin less lives, that why Jesus died on the cross for all of our sins. Joel Osteen did not tell you the hard way, but the plain truth is God created Man and then created women. Why folks are born to want to be with someone of their own sex, well, I can't answer that one. However, I do know about fat, cause I am, I know God still loves me but am I living my best? No. Again, all goes back to mercy, grace and forgivmess, all thur Christ.
Hope this helps.

Who cares about Joel Osteen??? He never even went to Seminary, Andy. He just inherited his Daddy's church. Anyone who thinks love is ever NOT the answer needs their head screwed on tighter. Love is ALWAYS the answer; no matter if it is straight or gay, LOVE is always the answer and NEVER the problem. I am so over these religious nuts who condemn the gays.

Andy, why pick only on Rev. Osteen? I, too, saw his "advertorial" on The View and thought his judicious word choice and message platform at least acknowledged the growing acceptance and importance of Gay Christians (even if somewhat reluctant) in the evangelical world. At least it wasn't a "fire and brimstone" response.
What about the Roman Catholic Church, where "it's okay to be gay, as long as you don't practice the lifestyle?" (I still don't understand this one!) And where now, the Pope has "officially invited other Christians back to the Mother Church" if they don't agree with their faith's more progressive stance on homosexuality and the priesthood.
Perhaps you should interview Rev. Osteen and Pope Benedict on your show... And have them delineate clearly and succinctly once and for all on "The Golden Rule" and the role of Gays in organized religion.

I enjoy Joel Osteen's messages (primarily because he sticks to inspiration and does not deal in sin, etc...). I also was very disappointed to hear him saying that gay people are not living their best. Tolerance becomes so difficult when everyone has an opinion about something they know nothing about but choose to express their opinion any way.
For those who have automatically concluded on the Bible's message on homosexuality, there is a film that you should see (should you ever get the opportunity). I just saw it last night and it is on this very subject--addressing the 7 scripture used to denounce gay people. It is very powerful. It is called "Fish Out of Water" (http://fishoutofwaterfilm.com/)
We are progressing...ever so slowly, but surely. The ignorance of homophobia will at some point be the minority. This, too, shall pass!
Thanks, Andy, for all that you do. You keep us entertained!

Wait, Joel Osteen said something? I tend it ignore Charlaine Harris's character reference as often as possible. It's easier on my brain. Of course, I mostly gave up religion when the Episcopal church decided to be a punk and split on the issue of gay ministers. So you know, and I'm IN Atlanta. If someone only lives by the world of the Bible, they will ultimately fail because it was written by many different men. It is not a one-man show.
Just believe what you know and go with it. Don't worry about other people.

Andy do not be surprised that a christian televagalist thinks that gays are not gods best work. True christians love the sinners not the sin and do not judge people. All sins are equal and we only have one to answer to. What everyone else thinks is irrelevant!!!

A.G., it's not about discrimination against Christians. You have your beliefs, and I have mine, that's fine. I object when you use your religion to legislate laws. If you think homosexuality is immoral and marriage between homosexuals is wrong, that's fine with me! You should belong to a CHURCH that also doesn't allow it. Let the GOVERNMENT be separate from your church is all I ask.
Andy, I'm jealous you were at Monkey Bar with Isaac! I love how funny and wry he can be. What a fab lunch that must have been.

A.G. - while you aren't all "gay haters" what you are saying is just a fine line away from "some of my best friends are gay/black/whatever". Does Jack and Jill getting married affect you at all? No. Why on earth would Jack and Jack getting married affect you then? You have zero say in another religion deciding it's ok to marry same sex partners, and our governments ban on the LEGAL aspect of marriage is descrimination - pure and simple. And when the divorce statistics dramatically drop, then we "straight people" can possibly pull out the arguement that same sex marriage weakens the act itself, but uh, since we're doing a craptastic job of honoring the sanctity of marriage ourselves, I don't think we have a leg to stand on (not that I'd buy that arguement either way).

Please don't discriminate against religion just because your not getting your way right now. That's childish.""Getting your way"?? "Getting your way"?? How insulting. Of course people should all be treated equally and equally "get their way."

Hi Andy,
You were great on the reunion show last night but what a snooze. Did the ladies, other than Kim and Kandi, not understand what they were there for? I was disappointed Nene, Sheree, and Lisa didn't express their points of view honestly. They are supposed to be on a reality show. Why were they trying so hard to be new people who are calm, cool, classy and well-spoken? Those aren't the women we love!

Organized religion is just large scale cults. People seek solace in an imperfect, chaotic world. Unfortunately, these naive people give their worldly possessions (& complete faith) over to fast talking, persuasive snake oil salesman (or women)... J.O. is no different from Jim Jones.

There are so many idiots out there. I think they make a living of peoples' fears of the world today. Some people just have to hate. The god I believe in is all about love. He/she does not judge us on anything other than being good people and not hurting others. I believe people like Joel Osteen will be very surprised on what they have to answer for.
Everyone should have the right to be happy. Everyone should have the right to be married if they choose to. Hate is easy try accepting each other, that takes work.

I am a Christian, and I believe so many of us are confused by about exactly what to think regarding homosexuality. The Bible truly is a wonderful book with a clear message of Gods love for all of us, however it does state that homosexuality falls under "acts of sexual immorality" which is not Gods best, as does fornication, but there is no hate for the individuals who do it. I don't believe Joel Osteen or other good hearted religious people like me feel hateful toward gays. I love you Andy, as does God I'm sure:)

Andy,
My son has written an original song that I think will be important for teens coming out of the closet. It's actually called "Out" - he wrote it a few years ago when he was around 15 or 16... I think you could probably google "Tyler Foehr Out" - or find it off of his youtube page /thefoehrkids
I used to like Joel Osteen (I think because of his accent!) but the more I watched him the more I found that... not to be mean but... he's not really very smart... like, he's not really an abstract thinker or someone who has a high IQ - wouldn't have been a "Philospher King" back in the day you know? So just feel sorry for him and figuratively pat him on the head, "poor small minded minister, awww" and move on to being inspired by faith leaders of a higher intelligence.

Andy,
I just watched part 2 of the Atlanta reunion. I felt badly for you as you were the only person who was honest and forthcoming..and interesting. What happened to the REAL in real???? It was like watching a mobster trial where no one wants to rat on the other one. Yawn. I felt sorry for you sitting there just waiting for someone to say something. You were way too nice about it. Are they too good for TV? DA-wight was at least willing to go there. As for the ladies, a huge disappointment. You were great. Maybe you should have a show with all of your friends next season! Keep shining- God totally LOVES YOU!

As an earlier blogger has posed a question concerning "Christians" not being "God's Best", I would venture to say that any religious conglomerate that can't maintain any form of cohesion amongst themselves (outside of their persecution of homosexuality) would if anything be thanking the homosexual community for at least providing a solitary thread upon which they might actually remain in a most disfunctional alliance. Seriously, they are not even able to maintain cohesion concerning principles surrounding their proclaimed savior outside of their assumption that God hates and condemns homosexuals. It would seem that this is the crux of the current situation. If they were to actually stop their persecution of such a tremendously small minority group, they might actually have to struggle with their own issues. Yet, they know that homosexuality will never be gone and that it will naturally remain among the smallest minority groups; therefore, it will always be a group that they can use (if not abuse) in an effort to redirect their problems, failures, and disappointments towards as the cause. I mean for them to lose their historical scape-goat is (as is expected) a difficult task indeed.

Andy..don't you know, If you by Osteen's books, attend his sermons and funnel him money, you get closer to God. Since you have a hunk of a brain, just like me, I don't need to buy an old arena to make it a church..God is Love..and he is all around us..if Joel Osteen is the face of God..than its no wonder people are turning away from God in droves.
If you look back..relgion has caused most of the worlds problems..and it fellow man for being inhumane to his fellow man in the name of God.

DianaFloss is right on with her comments. When I was growing up, our church had a preacher that gave me the creeps. Many years later we found out that he had been molesting his daughter for years. The same creep told my grandmother who was dying of a brain tumor at the time that my uncle had committed suicide - this was after we told him NOT to tell her. What a piece of garbage!

Andy, Joel Osteen was asked where he stands on the issue. -- It doesn't mean you have to agree with him, but he answered it honestly to his belief. I feel that God does love everybody, but just because God loves you doesn't mean He always agrees with the lifestyle people are leading. I'm probably what you would consider fat, but I know God doesn't like gluttony. I don't take offense to that -- Doesn't mean He loves me any less, just means he probably doesn't agree with how I've handled my weight.

Andy, God does love each and every one of us. I wonder how many homosexuals are in JO's congregation and if they will leave the church because of what he said. I know I would in that situation. His type of church is big business and strays far from God in a lot of cases - and it becomes about the almighty dollar.

I thought these preacher types were supposed to believe that God is perfect? If he's perfect, then how can he NOT do his best all the time? You know what wasn't God's best? Osteen's poodle hair and beady little eyes.

I'm not sure I can watch part II tonight. I saw part one and there was something bothering me and then it hit me catching some of the re-airs, it's that necklace and ear ring combination! It is SOOOO painful to watch Sheree with those big white ear rings dangling, which are so our of place. The pink D&G number is a stunner and then she mucks it up with the heavy necklace and those ear rings that don't go with anything else she is wearing. On TV they scream summer and here we are in winter! I have to wonder if she has design taste at all after seeing her in this outfit. Where are her stylist? they should be FIRED! I'm thinking Lisa with Closet Freak might be a better line after all.

I hate that we are still at this point. One day I hope we'll look back as a country (well, most of us in it anyway @@) and realize this ban is as rediculous as keeping women from voting. I had to google who Osteen was and as soon as it popped up with the word "ministries" I did a NeNe "donk" and shut it down - when organized religion stops having to apologize for all the crap they got wrong over the centuries, then maybe I'll start giving their "this is what God wants, yeah yeah, we've said that before but this time we are SURE" dictates a little more weight. If God is all about hating people, what makes him so different then the devil?

God doesn't hate. PEOPLE DO. When will these "religious leaders" realize that they will be the ones who have to answer to God for their condemnation of anyone or anything?
The same type of people who say ridiculous things like this are those who, behind closed doors, probably abuse their families, drink too much, smoke too much, all of the above, or are gay themselves and are too weak to just accept it. Joel Osteen? TOTALLY GAY!!!!!! Love you Andy!

When I saw what Osteen said, I thought 'Thanks a lot for kicking us while we're already down.' I'm not going to get into a diatribe about organized religion, so I'll just say that I hope we can all channel Michael Phelps and use what he said to expand our fire and make us even more determined to stay in the fight and win the war.
