Monday Morning

Andy Cohen reflects on this week's pop culture events, like Saturday's SNL and the Super Bowl.

Feb 7, 2011

I'm sitting in the TODAY Show how green room looking at JWoww and wondering what is going on on the 46th floor in my new office. It is before 10, so I can bet that Anthony has not yet arrived and so there's just a mess of boxes of crap awaiting me. How are "we" going to unpack it all? (I'll post a video of the new office tomorrow so you can share my trauma.)

What a great Super Bowl game! I could've cared less who won, but I loved the game and the ads. My two faves were Darth Vader and the Eminem Chrysler/Detroit thing. Loved them. I thought that halftime show was the biggest piece of poop I've seen in quite awhile. I give it up to the Black Eyed Peas for actually singing in the age of lip synch, but man, the whole thing -- besides the neon people -- was just awful. I was reading tweets all night and there were hilarious ones relating to that "show."

I had a great run this morning at the gym and I alternated between watching The Early Show and Morning Joe. There's a good feature about Erica Hill in today's New York Post, and she seems to be the real deal. For the first time in a long time, I think CBS has the right woman in the morning. The rest of those white people around her are totally nondescript (though I am sure they and their families are quite lovely and pleasant). On the opposite spectrum, I really love watching Joe and Mika in the morning. That is one fresh show.

Did you see the Regis and Kelly sketch on SNL? I live for Kristen Wiig doing Kathie Lee. She is so freaking funny. I cannot handle her brilliance. Every single thing she does is perfect. She is the star of SNL.

Also, did you see Oprah Behind the Scenes about the making of her last two "favorite things" episodes? It was awesome. I do think the "Oprah" show seems so overstaffed! What do those senior associate coordinating producers with insane titles do all day??? And what are they going to do after that show ends and they see that every other show on TV has a staff of 25 people? I wanna film that.

I have to leave you with this clip of "Wheel of Poor-tune" from our Thursday Watch What Happens Live. It is so funny....

I so agree with you on Oprah's show being overstaffed. I have wondered the same thing since the Jan Ist (introdustion of OWN). Oh well, we shall see....

Andy, Did I see you on Sex and the City - All That Glitters - leaning against the bar next to Carrie?

Andy, what are these rumors I here of RHONY not coming til spring? Fans have been looking forward to them for a year! I don't want to watch miami, just too many franchises now. Why don't you run them both at the same time like you did with Atlanta and Beverly Hills? Signed, Upset Fan of RHONY

Andy, totally agree with your assessment of the Super bowl. You picked the best of the ads and they were not that good. Except for the meon people the half time show was a disappointment. Please continue to do what you do, Love the shows on Bravo.

Why am I having issues posting on NeNe's blogs. I tried to post the following:

Everyone is attacking NeNe when they have forgotten that Kim also has issues getting along with people. She had an issue with Sheree, Lisa and now Phaedra, and Kandi b/c she still has not paid Kandi. I tell ya you people must be looking in your own mirror to have missed those things. Otherwise you would be more objective. Now I do not agree that NeNe should have gotten in Kim's face but at least I see both sides.

Love those comments about the Oprah show. I wonder the same thing. I used to work at a competing talk show and we had a fraction of those people. (And some of my coworkers are now on that Oprah show so its even funnier to watch since I knew those folks). Most shows dont have a gizzilion people working on each episode. Even THE VIEW girls who will be on Oprah on Friday commented on the # of producers and staff that Oprah sent just to do some backstage b-roll footage. Jeez Louise. And what will those 400+ staffers do when the Oprah show leaves the air? OWN is based in LA - What will happen to Chicago Harpo studios? To my knowledge, theres no other talk show currently filming in Chicago. Jenny Jones is off the air and Jerry Springer moved to CT for tax breaks. Only Judge Mathis is left. We produced shows with ONE producer, ONE associate producer and ONE - maybe TWO if you were lucky PAs.... Oprah has more than that just giving her coffee every morning. And ive heard some pretty negative behind the scenes stories from Oprah show employees and reporters in Chicago. I dont think we're getting a 100% real view on the Behind the Scenes show but it is fun to watch the extravagance of that show. There will never be something like it again due to finances. I do wish Anderson good luck; he might be the new Donahue - silver hair and all. ....but many Oprah stations are going to produce local news so there will be even fewer slots for syndicated programming.

Hi Andy, Love your show you are a very funny guy. Is there any updated information on Candy from ATL housewives, daughter. The story is that she was shot, is this true. If so my heart and prayers goes out to her and her family. Blessings,
