Barack Obama hails from the tropical island state of Hawaii. Plus, he's known to love golf and basketball, and wear questionable dad jeans. So it's not like we've never seen the guy without a suit and tie, although he'd been leader of the free world as POTUS and in serious work mode for the last eight years.
But ever since he left Washington, and after a rained-out stop in Palm Springs headed for Richard Branson's private Necker Island, he has proven he clearly knows how to relax on a proper island vacation. (It's downright inspiring, in fact, for those of us who can't seem to unplug.)
Off the bat, consider the first photo we have of Barack and Michelle from the British Virgin Islands, a super-casual snap with airport staff in which they look like pretty much any ordinary couple who is so psyched for this vacation after a crazy period at work, even if a bit tired from transit:
But it gets so much better. After settling in, he slipped into something more comfortable and island appropriate. The dude is there chilling in flip-flops and sunglasses at a table on the sand, with his wife and billionaire homie with the beach hair. POTUSes: They're just like us!
And then, the pièce de résistance. (Wait for it.) President Obama, in the mic-drop of vacation wardrobe moves — and the ultimate proof he knows how to fully chill on vacay — turned his baseball cap backwards.
Let's see that again with full context: Obama strolling in the sand, alongside Michelle in pigtail braids with a straw hat and bag.
Alright guys, we're officially jealous. Fortunately, there's a way for us mere mortals to get to Necker Island too. Save us a fruity umbrella-topped drink, regular-vacation-people Barack and Michelle?
