The current crazes in fashionable shirts—body suits and crop tops and muscle tees—aren’t doing us any favors on Thanksgiving this year, especially when the Bloody Mary bar opens at 10 a.m. and appetizers start flowing shortly thereafter. Whether you’re hosting or attending, Thanksgiving is a marathon holiday, in that it lasts for 10-plus hours, you’ll be indoors and outdoors, cooking in the kitchen and catching footballs on the front lawn. So choosing an outfit that meets all of these demands—while also flattering your physique—is really freaking hard.
In my opinion, the only answer is a loose, swishy blouse that grows with you as you navigate your way through the shrimp cocktail, baked brie and sausage corn bread stuffing—a shirt that is going to forgive you for your inability to pass on the pie and that will leave your friends and family in the dark about how full you actually are. What you don’t need is a blouse that accentuates your tightening waistband.
But let us be clear: You’re not going to wear a paper bag to dinner. Instead, let’s highlight the neckline and shoulders—areas that aren’t going to expand as the day grows long. The below options will leave you feeling sexy, girly, and ever so thankful that you put some forethought into a flattering top that will forever live on in the day’s many Instagram posts. (If you decide not to buy these tops, go with Snapchat, and those muffin-top memories will be gone by Black Friday!)
