Follow This American DJ to Rio’s Best Dance Parties

Tee Cardaci shares the hottest nightclubs in town during the Olympics.

Tee Cardaci thinks life is too short to listen to one kind of music all night long, and when you party with him, you’ll take deep dives into disco, boogie, and Brazilian grooves as well as flirtatious forays into funk, post-punk, psychedelic, and old-school hip-hop. An American DJ and producer living in Rio de Janeiro, Cardaci plays at the most exclusive spots in the city as well as the most underground, playing free parties — from the beaches of Ipanema to high atop the favelas. He’s even been spotted behind the decks at Brazil’s biggest women’s prison.

When the Olympics take over Rio from August 5 through 21, you’ll find Cardaci working days as the resident DJ and consultant on I Live Global’s pop up bar and lounge at The Mansion, a charming 1940s property in the Santa Thereza neighborhood that overlooks Sugar Loaf mountain and Guanabara Bay. New York’s Mulberry Project will offer a design-your-own-cocktail menu with fresh local ingredients. The public is welcome to come watch the games, celebrity spot, and dance during the day, with special events and private parties taking over at night.

Cardaci will move to his resident DJ slot at Clubhouse Rio, a members club (members include Brazilian singer Seu Jorge and model/actress Alessandra Ambrosio) in a remodeled Tudor-style house overlooking Ipanema beach, for select evenings during the games. He’ll be joined by a roster of international guests, including surprise celeb performances and DJ sets. Reps for the Clubhouse told Jet Set that the public is welcome to make a reservation at the Clubhouse restaurant or the main bar and lounge to party without the tourist hordes. Additionally, the pool, pool bar and deck will shake up original cocktails from Floreria Atlantico, a leading bar in Buenos Aires that will host a daily pop up, for an invite-only crowd of VIPs, athletes, and visiting influencers.

Though not directly involved, Cardaci also recommends that party people keep an eye on DJ/production duo Selvagem, who plan to throw two parties during the games (including an underground event with Scottish electronic group Optimo on August 12) and the August 13 edition of recurring party Rara, which will feature guest DJs Steve Bug from Germany and Space Dimension Controller from the U.K.

Cardaci will also make appearances at various events around Rio during the Olympics, including invite-only poolside performances with his production partner, jazz musician Jeremy Goddard. If you spot him, ask him where the good party is going to be that night!
