Obsessive Binge Watchers' Dream Just Came True for Long Flights

This is so major — and long overdue.

If you’ve ever looked forward to a super long-haul flight as a way to catch up on countless hours of TV — only to realize that Netflix doesn’t actually let you do that without Internet — you’re going to be very happy right now.

Jet-setting binge watchers will be stoked to know that Netflix has at long last added a download option, so you can use your home or hotel’s Internet to load your device up with Gilmore Girls (let us know if you figure out the mystery that's stumped Twitter), The Crown, Stranger Things, or whatever (we don’t judge); it’s easy to do by simply clicking the download button on the details page for your chosen movie or TV show. Then you’ll be all set to watch to your heart’s content on the plane later, despite spotty Internet, expensive Internet, or no Internet at all over vast swaths of the Pacific Ocean (as was my personal hell returning from reporting my story about following The Real Housewives of Orange County to Hawaii’s hottest destination). Perhaps you might even like to enjoy your screen time while you luxuriate with a beauty treatment? We do love in-flight multitasking.

“While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where internet is expensive or limited,” the company posted as part of the news announcement. There’s a company that knows its customers — but it did take long enough. Other similar services such as Amazon Prime have already offered the download option.
