Which Dessert Would You Choose if You Could Only Eat One?

Welcome to Feast Week! Today we take a look at the most important meal of the day: dessert.

We wouldn’t blame you if you confused this year’s most viral desserts with something other than dessert. The trending sweets of the year looked more like jewelry, or giant raindrops, or a certain type of implant we won’t mention, and sometimes they just looked like dinner. This was also the year of the freakshake, an unholy alliance between a milkshake, a candy store and a lab explosion. Which of the year’s most unusual "desserts" actually made you want to grab a fork—or dive right in with your hands—the way a real dessert should? Which ones do you never, ever want to see, read or hear about again? Pick your favorite in the poll below.

1.  Raindrop Cake

This runaway hit led some skeptics to claim that it’s not technically a cake. But semantics aside, we can’t deny this Japanese-inspired creation looks really, really cool.

2.  Mirror Cakes

A pastry chef in Russia set Instagram on fire with her bizarrely shiny “mirror cakes,” inspiring cake icons like Duff Goldman to post videos showing how you can make your own at home. If you can get your DIY mirror cakes to look like these, go ahead and quit your day job.

3.  Freakshakes

You’ll need a spoon, a fork, a knife, a straw and a chainsaw to eat one of these things. But that’s a small price to pay for the chance to eat a dessert that tastes like an ice cream shop exploding inside a bakery, then smashing head-on into a candy store.

4.  Meat Desserts

Carnivores can have their chocolate marrow cake and eat it too, now that pastry chefs are expanding our meat-candy options way beyond bacon-covered chocolate, and serving up sweet-and-savory inventions like pork belly donuts and truffle-foie-gras bread pudding.

5.  Ketchup Cake

Who needs red velvet cake when you can have ketchup cake? If you’re saying no-thank-you, give this cake a try first. Sweet, tangy and red, ketchup could be just what your normal cake has been waiting for all its life.
