It’s no news that workout gear—or, activewear as the fashion industry is now referring to it—is blowing up. Leggings aren’t just for spin class anymore. Now you can wear them to grab coffee, hit the gym and meet friends for drinks afterward, thanks to sleek silhouettes and on-trend patterns.
As a mom who works from home, I practically live in activewear. Am I actually working out? Well, that’s between me and my trainer. (If you’re reading this, I’ll text you back soon, I promise.) The flexibility of leggings and hoodies make throwing my three-year-old on the potty or spending hours in front of computer much more comfortable than if I were doing it all in, say, skinny jeans.
But my understanding of comfort was pretty much redefined this week when I tried on Athleta’s Polartec Powerlift Tight 2.0, which are basically super cool-looking leggings that are LINED WITH FLEECE. You read that right my friends. Athleta designed these workout tights for running in wintry temps and thusly added a thin fleece lining to keep us toasty while we're sweating it out. To say that these puppies are comfortable would be an understatement. Typically when I’m this cozy and relaxed in an outfit, I also resemble the abominable snowman and am wearing sweatpants that are 10-plus years old. But in this case, I’m snug as a bug—albeit without all that bulk. Athleta’s tights have a high-waisted cut (read: no belly bulge) and the zippered pockets mean I can have my phone on me even when I’m outside chasing my kids around. Genius. So give them a whirl for yourself, or try some of these similar versions that will also be best your friend, whether you’re running in the cold weather or just doing some laundry.
