Gayle King has revealed she remembers the exact minute she caught her ex-husband cheating on her with another woman, even though it happened 26 years ago.
In a refreshingly truthful Vanity Fair Proust Questionnaire, Oprah’s BFF and CBS This Morning host opened up when asked, “Which living person do you most despise?”
“Despise is a strong word. I’m not a huge fan of the woman who I caught naked with my now ex-husband on June 24, 1990, at 9:16 p.m.—but I don’t remember the details,” Gayle jokes.
She is speaking about her ex, Connecticut Assistant Attorney General William Bumpus.
Gale has referenced his cheating before, saying in 2006 that she even went to a therapist to try to fix her marriage.
“I was married to a cheater, I went to marital counseling,” she says. “I have been divorced since 1993, so I’m all healed and everything. I have worked it out. I’m not bitter. I’m OK. I’m really OK.”
Gale was married to her ex for 11 years, and they share two children together.
But the questions weren’t all about her ex. When asked what living person she most admires, she of course said the big O.
“Oprah Winfrey. She always does the right thing—even when no one is looking,” she says.
And Gayle’s still on the hunt for her true love. The best man, she says, would be “a tie between height and depth. And they have to have a good sense of humor.”
