If you asked us to name our favorite movies of all time, 1992’s The Bodyguard would certainly make the list, because it is definitely a movie we have seen and remember very well. In it, Whitney Houston plays a singer who has fame but also troubles and who requires a bodyguard (Kevin Costner) to keep her safe from, you know, overzealous fans or terrorism or whatever. Eventually, Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner’s characters fall in love after she drunkenly sings a cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” at karaoke as a way of revealing her secret feelings through song. At the end, he carries her out of the bar, through a swarming crowd, and we wanna say this part is in slow motion? Cut to black. Oscars, Grammies, your favs could never, etc.
Because we live in the era of the remake and the reboot, it is no surprise that new version of The Bodyguard has long been gestating. Today, finally, it’s official! A remake of the film is already in the works, and let’s just say the casting is both unexpected and perfect. In the role of Whitney Houston’s singer is a really cute little hedgehog, and in the role of Kevin Costner’s bodyguard is three geese.
The first trailer for the film, which is set for release in 2019 and is expected to get a major awards-season push, is already out. It features the iconic final scene in which the bodyguard (three geese) shepherds the singer (hedgehog) across a road to safety… and, presumably, eternal love. Watch it below and get hyped for what is very likely to be one of 2019’s movie releases.
