Apparently everything George Clooney touches turns to gold. Or at least, an insanely huge pile of money. CNBC reports that Clooney is selling his tequila company, Casamigos, to beverage giant Diageo for up to $1 billion.
According to the terms of the deal, Diageo will pay $700 million up front, with another $300 million delivered based on the tequila's performance in 10 years. Not too shabby.
Clooney is expected to stay on with the company, along with co-owners Rande Gerber and Michael Meldman. "If you asked us four years ago if we had a billion dollar company, I don't think we would have said yes. This reflects Diageo's belief in our company and our belief in Diageo," Clooney told CNBC. "But we're not going anywhere. We'll still be very much a part of Casamigos."
We're sure he's celebrating the sale with a shot or two.
