With all the other news coming out of Paris this week — not just Kim Kardashian's ordeal but also, importantly, the possibility of public parks going naked — it was possible to miss a more low-key but nevertheless eyebrow-raising moment in the City of Light.
Barbara Bush, one of the daughters of former President George W. Bush, attended a Hillary Clinton fundraiser in Paris over the weekend. It's not a total shocker per se: George W. has said he'll abstain from endorsing anyone (ahem) this election cycle, as will his dad George H.W. Bush. Barbara's mom — also Barbara — has publicly said no way to Trump. Jeb Bush, trounced by Trump during campaigning, has denounced the Republican nominee, but does not support Clinton either. (The Atlantic has the full cheat sheet on who's with who. Like sands through the hour glass...)
Anyway, back to the Parisian fete. Barbara was indeed there, and took time out to pose for a picture with Clinton's longtime aide Huma Abedin (take an obligatory moment to cringe as you ponder the very existence of her relentlessly sexting ex Anthony Weiner). Huma was hosting the event with Vogue's famously steely editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
Barbara's Instagram is private, but the photo was shared across social media, including by Lauren Santo Domingo — she's the co-founder of the fashion site Moda Operandi — who included the hashtag "#imwithher" in her Instagram photo caption. Call it reaching across the aisle in impeccable evening wear.
