Top officials at London’s Heathrow airport are trying to figure out how a memory stick packed with top-secret information ended up discarded on a London street.
A man described as unemployed and on his way to search for jobs apparently came across the USB containing 76 folders including maps, videos, and documents — all unencrypted — according to The Mirror.
The documents included the exact route the Queen takes when using the airport and security measures used to protect her.
As well, the files disclosed every type of ID required to access restricted areas within the airport; a timetable detailing patrols meant to protect against terrorist attacks; maps identifying security cameras and a network of tunnels and escape shafts linked to the Heathrow Express; and other information meant to be kept highly confidential.
Britain’s largest airport has launched a “very, very urgent” investigation after the Sunday Mirror revealed the massive security problem.
