When Kim Kardashian was tied up at gunpoint and robbed of her jewels in Paris last year, she learned the hard way that social-media sharing can give criminals all the data they need to execute their plans. Unfortunately, Hilary Duff has now learned that lesson, too, albeit without violence.
Hilary was vacationing with family and friends and Canada, and sharing tons of snaps on Instagram along the way. Some showed her and son Luca having fun on a helicopter ride, relaxing on a dock, and going tubing on a lake.
She also shared images in which she jumps off a bridge, and does a playful handstand off a doc into the water.
So it would have been clear to any observer that she was out of town — and not minding her Beverly Hills manse.
And that’s when burglars pounced, robbing the home of items, including jewelry, reportedly worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
"This is a scary and upsetting situation for anyone to go through, but Hilary is thankful that her family, her staff, her home and her pets are all safe,” a rep for the star told the Daily Mail. "That said, she has a significant security team in place that will work with the authorities on this incident and handle security measures moving forward."
Indeed the scary incident will likely change Hilary's own habits, as it did even for Kim — who has said she is "more cautious" about what she shares these days.
