Is Dental Floss The Key To A Perfect Cat-Eye? We Tried The Viral Hack

From time to time, the internet goes wild over a beauty hack. Such is the case with a viral video that espouses using dental floss to achieve that oh-so elusive makeup #goal: the perfect cat-eye.

When Instagram user Makeup By Sugar posted the tip, Cosmopolitan called it "genius" and Glamour said that the trick would: "give up a perfect line every time." Okay, Makeup By Sugar, we're listening.

Here's how the hack works. First, take a piece of dental floss that's on a plastic pick. Then, paint the thin, short line of floss with inky liquid eyeliner. Then, you use the floss as a stamp of sorts, pressing it onto the side of your eye in a triangle shape. Confused? We tried. Perhaps it's best if you just watch the video:

As you can see, the result isn't a cute little "kitten" eye. These are full-fledged, dramatic wings. The style looks gorgeous on Makeup By Sugar, of course, but we had to know what would happen when we tried it. So, we scurried to our bathroom cabinet to give it a go.

We'll give it to you straight: the results were a bit messier than expected. It took us several light taps of the floss before a line started to form, and once that happened, there were some smudges around our eyes from "stamping" gone wrong. The effect was more Alice Cooper than, say, glamorous makeup goddess. So, if you don't already have a totally steady hand (guilty), you may need some practice with this one. But, once you master this, we simply can't think of a finer party trick. Can you?
