Is The World's Best Beauty Blender Hiding In The Dairy Aisle?

We tried YouTube's hard-boiled-egg beauty hack so you don't have to.

Is there anything that beauty YouTubers and Instagrammers can’t MacGyver into a makeup tool? Earlier this month, people went wild for a demo on how to use dental floss picks to create a perfect cat-eye. We tried it too (with mixed results).

Now, the Internet’s newest makeup application hack involves looking beyond the medicine cabinet and into the fridge. YouTuber Nadi of PopLuxe posted a video in which he applied a full face of makeup — foundation, concealer, highlighter, even eyeshadow—using just a peeled, hard-boiled egg.

It kind of makes sense: those handy BeautyBlender sponges are pretty much the same shape as an egg, and hard-boiled eggs have the same texture as the silicone SiliSponge that everyone went crazy for recently.

What could go wrong? Well, a lot. Nadi complained about the smell (obvs), he managed to get yolk directly in his eye, he went through a lot of eggs as they crumbled in his hand, and he might’ve gotten expensive makeup palettes all egg-y.

But despite all that, the end product turned out surprisingly well. Nadi’s got skills! A commenter echoed our thoughts, asking: “Why can't I get my makeup to look that good even when I’m using brushes and a beauty blender?” And he's not the only one making the whole process look like egg-celent fun.

We had a hard-boiled egg chilling in our fridge, so we decided to give it a go. Peeling eggs had never been our strong suit, and ours was not as perfectly peeled as Nadi’s, which turned out to be a major problem. But, we forged ahead, dipping the egg into a bit of foundation and patting onto our skin. And Nadi was right, the cool egg’s texture kind of felt nice.

But once we tried to blend in and buff out the foundation, little flecks of egg whites started to stick onto our skin. So this is what it feels like to have egg on your face. Ack. It wasn’t pretty.

Please tell us that egg has some natural anti-aging properties? Until then, we’ll stick to these cute little egg-shaped makeup sponges and leave the hard-boiled eggs for the egg salad. And now, we're off to double cleanse!
