After a really rough few years, sparring with everyone from the Australian government to his now-ex Amber Heard, we get that Johnny Depp can definitely use a drink at the end of the day.
But based on the court documents his former management company is filing as part of Depp’s lawsuit against the firm, the star really, really loves his wine: He's reportedly spending more than $30,000 a month on it.
The lawsuit, as Food & Wine reports, argues that The Mandel Company mismanaged his earnings, but the firm is countersuing and claiming it’s not their fault his money is tight: Witness his overly lavish lifestyle, including said wine expenses.
Depp’s wine habit is well-established. Years ago, he famously covered up the Winona in his Winona Ryder tribute tattoo with “Wino Forever,” and he built a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed wine cave in his France estate. Depp was once quoted as saying his favorite wine was Château Calon-Ségur, which runs for about $150 a bottle.
However, despite his wino forever claims, Depp has also estimated his wine intake at about half a bottle a day, which, while making him a respectable wine drinker, is pretty low on the wino scale. That would suggest that a sizable amount of the $30K wine bill is going toward entertaining or collecting.
Nonetheless: "Depp lived an ultra-extravagant lifestyle that often knowingly cost Depp in excess of $2 million per month to maintain, which he simply could not afford," attorney Michael Kump writes in a document shared in The Hollywood Reporter. "Depp, and Depp alone, is fully responsible for any financial turmoil he finds himself in today."
Here's hoping the wine is helping ease the pain.
