Are you familiar with Kate Upton? She is a professional dog lover who is also blonde and attractive and occasionally models for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue? Or maybe you know her better as Harley Upton the Boxer’s mom?
Well, Upton and her fiancé Justin Verlander (also a professional dog lover who sometimes plays Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigers) are using their celebrity and general attractiveness for a very good cause: They’re hosting the Grand Slam Adoption at Publix Field in Florida this Saturday. The goal? Adopt out as many rescue dogs as humanly possible.
The two animal advocates-slash-beautiful people are teaming up with SPCA Florida and K9s for Warriors. Besides bringing tons of sweet, adoptable pooches, the event will also feature a silent auction that benefits both organizations. (Not in Florida? You can still bid online at Grand Slam Adoption.)
“A lot of shelter dogs get a bad rap, but it’s so important for people looking for dogs to check out shelters,” Upton told PEOPLE. (Both Upton and Verlander adopted their dogs from shelters.) “I think they’re so powerful, so healing. And it’s always great to come home to a friendly, warm welcome from your pet.”
