We're just recovering from yesterday's news that Gigi Hadid dropped out of this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai and now there's another bombshell. Page Six is reporting that Katy Perry won't be performing in the show because she couldn't get a visa to China.
China is reportedly combing through the social media accounts of Victoria's Secret Angels and performers, checking to see if they've posted anything that might be deemed offensive, and denying visas if so. Chinese officials could have flagged something Perry posted online.
Or this could go back to a concert Perry put on in Taiwan back in 2015. She became a lightning rod for controversy in China after waving a Taiwanese flag during her Taipei concert and wearing a dress with sunflowers on it (sunflowers became a symbol of the Taiwanese freedom movement).
It's not confirmed, but Gigi's sudden exit from the VS Fashion Show might have to do with social media issues, Page Six reports, after a video post she reportedly appeared in offended Chinese fans.
A lot of other models on the Victoria's Secret roster are said to have visa troubles, so Hadid and Perry aren't alone. Apparently, "diplomatic problems" are holding up Adriana Lima's visa too.
As far as we know, Harry Styles, who was also booked to perform, is still going to be at the show. We can't wait to see what Styles, who's known for his eclectic fashion sense, will wear for the occcasion. Maybe he can bring back that bright pink suit, it's very Victoria's Secret.
