You either had one, or you wanted one really bad. Kipling bags were the jam back in the day. Constructed of lightweight, crinkly nylon and complete with oversized zippers and that monkey keychain we all thought was so wicked awesome, the Kipling paraphernalia of the ’80s and ’90s are the definition of nostalgia.
And much to our nerdy delight, the sporty bags are back in the form of a capsule collection inspired by the originals we all loved so much. Launched this week at Urban Outfitters, the line is comprised of six styles ranging from backpacks and fanny packs to duffels and totes, priced between $59 and $119.
“After looking into our archives from 30 years back, we discovered the bags to be just as timeless, modern, and relevant as the first day they were introduced,” explained the Kipling’s head of design, Christine Lee. “Keeping this collection in its original form takes us all on a Kipling journey of authenticity and nostalgia.”
What do we love about these throwbacks? Beyond feeling like we’re in Clueless every time we toss one of the bags on our shoulder (or waist), the line is still as useful as ever—durable, roomy and suitable for a commute into the office or doubling as a diaper bag on-the-go. The hardest part will be choosing your style and color combo.
