Pets orphaned by hurricanes Harvey and Irma are all over the news these days. What we want to know is—what monsters abandoned these creatures in the first place?! Like you couldn’t find room in your car for the creature who loves you most in the world? Honestly, we’re surprised more husbands weren’t abandoned in favor of dogs.
The good news is that people across the country are adopting the animals who were left behind—even celebrities!
Among those generous celebs? Liev Schreiber, who first encountered two dogs displaced by hurricane Harvey while appearing on Live With Kelly and Ryan. The dogs were rescued by Home for Good Dog Rescue, a non-profit based in Summit, New Jersey, and they were brought to the show for a segment about puppies abandoned in the storm. Shreiber encountered the lot of them backstage, and immediately fell in love with a pair of mutts with wispy yellow hair.
Apparently, a producer of the show had fallen in love with the same pooches, but Shreiber ensured they would come home with him by calling his 10-year-old son Alexander on-air and telling him about the adorable orphaned babies. After all, who can deny a child some rescue pups? (Answer: no one who works for Live With Kelly and Ryan, fortunately.)
Almost immediately after the taping of the show, Schreiber began posting about his new pets on Instagram. His son named the three-month-old puppiers Woody and Willow, and now they are destined for a life of celebripet fame! In the words of Drake, “Started from the bottom now we’re here.”
