A dog shelter isn't exactly a house, but there’s no reason it can’t feel like one. At the Luvable Dog Rescue in Eugene, Oregon, rescues are given accommodations meant to replicate the warmth and comfort of their future forever home.
While all dog rescues are important and crucial for the welfare of maltreated pups, most places aren’t able to offer the amenities (or acreage!) that are unique to Luvable: 55 acres of land for frolicking, exploring, and hiking, and private cottages that are fully decorated and furnished—they even feature flower boxes during the summer!
These little “homes” not only offer relaxation for the rescues, but also allow the staff to observe their behaviors, so potential adopters have a better idea of the dog’s temperament.
Executive director Liesl Wilhardt told PupJournal that Luvable Dog Rescue’s goal is to make each dog’s stay as comfy and stress-free as possible. “Dogs are able to communicate that to one another—that they are in a safe, good place,” said Wilhardt. “The healing power of this place has done miracles for some of the dogs.”
According to Luvable’s Facebook page, their dogs receive daily hikes on wooded trails and enjoy play groups with other dogs, premium food, plenty of human company, mentally stimulating games, expert medical care, and a whole lot of love. Their motto—Place, Pack, and Purpose—reflects their mission to give the dogs a sense of home, a feeling of family, and a life of love and companionship.
