Matthew Perry must be the only person who has (or had) something against Mr. Perfect, Justin Trudeau.
The Friends star revealed that he once beat up the Canadian Prime Minister. Don’t worry, it was when they were kids, if that makes it any better. It's not like the two were in a bar brawl last week.
The actor, who was raised in Ottawa, went to school with the politician, and when Matthew was in the fifth grade, he and a friend beat up Justin, who was two years younger. The reason? Matthew says it was “pure jealousy” because of his amazing athletic abilities. Oh, Chandler.
“I think he was excelling at a sport that we weren't, so it was pure jealousy. And, you know, we beat him up,” Matthew, 47, told Jimmy Kimmel. “His dad was Prime Minister, but I don't think that's the reason we beat him up…I think he was the only kid in school we could beat up…I’m not bragging about this. This is terrible. I was a stupid kid.”
He hadn’t even remembered the incident until a mutual pal recently reminded him, with Jimmy comparing it to if Barron Trump, 10, had bullies in school now.
“[If Barron Trump] was beaten up you'd be in a stockade right now; you'd be in Russia somewhere,” Jimmy joked.
Both Matthew and Justin had both attended Rockcliffe Park Public School, an Ottawa primary school where many politicians send their kids.
Matthew says maybe the fisticuffs actually contributed to Justin’s successful political career.
“I think it was rather instrumental in him going to such big heights and becoming the Prime Minister,” he said.
The actor's Canadian mother, Suzanne Perry, was press secretary for Trudeau's father, Pierre Trudeau, when he was Prime Minister.
