Molly Sims, 43, has the perfect family, and is even expecting her third child with 47-year-old producer husband Scott Stuber. But she’s opening up about her fertility struggles in a new video on her YouTube channel.
Molly and Scott have a four-year-old son Brooks, 19-month-old daughter Scarlett, and the model/actress is currently pregnant in the video, where she says she realized she wanted to be a mom when she played her pregnant character Delinda Deline on Las Vegas.
“I think playing pregnant on Las Vegas kind of tweaked me a little bit, in terms of I want this,” she said. “The maternal clock all of a sudden started happening.”
And she was ready to do it with or without a partner.
“I decided to freeze my eggs before I met Scott,” Molly said.
Then when she met her future husband, she went through with the process of freezing them.
“We ended up freezing [embryos] about nine months before we got married in September of 2011,” Molly said.
But then she got pregnant with her first baby naturally.
“Honestly I got pregnant on my honeymoon! I think because we had froze, and because I had in the back of my mind a safety blanket — a safety net — I got pregnant,” she said.
For her next baby, she tried IVF twice, and she was pregnant with Scarlett before another round.
Molly is due with the third baby in December, saying that pregnant was a surprise. She cried when recalling how emotional her journey to have a family had been, saying there were “dark moments” when she’d get a phone call saying it didn’t work.
“Those are the worst,” she said. “And that's the one thing I feel for all my friends that are going through this, to get that phone call.”
And she says having a friend going through the same can help.
“Try to have at least one person you can talk to and really be open with,” she said. “There are a lot of dark moments … it’s sure not easy, and I got very, very lucky to find my prince and to have my family.”
