New Zealand Prime Minister Tragically Lost the Country's New First Cat to a Car Accident

"To anyone who has ever lost a pet, you'll know how sad we feel," wrote newly elected official Jacinda Ardern.

The world had just gotten a chance to meet Paddles, the big-pawed kitten of New Zealand's newly elected Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern who recently became a social media sensation and was unofficially named the country's "first cat."

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Prime Minister sadly announced that Paddles was accidentally killed by a car. Ardern took to Facebook to post a sweet memorial.

Paddles will live on in our hearts as an international icon who apparently was recently told that she was a bit young to write her own memoir. Clearly she knew something her family did not; hopefully those manuscripts will be found.

We'll miss you, Paddles!
