Olympic Swimmer Wins Silver, Gets Proposed To While Standing On the Podium

It's hard to tell which moment was more emotional for the medalist.

Chinese diver He Zi won the silver and thought it was the best moment of the night—until her boyfriend proposed to her on the podium.

The Olympian had just won the medal after competing in the women’s three-meter springboard at the Rio Olympics. After receiving the medal, her boyfriend of seven years  Qin Kai popped the question, moving her to tears. The BBC reports that Kai is also a diver, and won a bronze medal for the men’s three-meter synchronized springboard last week.

“We’ve been dating for six years, but I didn’t expect him to propose today,” Zi told reporters following the proposal. “He said a lot of things, made a lot of promises, but I think the thing that touched me the most is I think this is the guy I can trust for the rest of my life.”

Kai flashed a huge smile and a fist pump with the crowd upon hearing “yes.”

Zi wore her new ring while holding her medal up for the crowd. She wasn’t the only Olympic athlete to be proposed to during the Rio games.

Brazilian rugby player Isadora Cerullo said yes to girlfriend venue manager Marjorie Enya on last week.

“As soon as I knew she was in the squad I thought I have to make this special,” Enya said following the proposal. “I wanted to show people that love wins.”
