You might say that a student pilot in love with a Boeing designer already has the makings of a love story destined to culminate in a super-romantic proposal in an airport. And indeed, that's just what went down in Akron this Christmas.
Elizabeth was flying in from her job at Boeing in Seattle back to her Ohio home where her boyfriend, Evan, was going to meet her at the airport. Little did she know he was actually going to make his appearance by riding in on the baggage carousel while playing the guitar. When she spotted him, he climbed down, got on one knee, and popped the question.
He told her he was madly in love with her and added, "Even though we've been apart and separated by thousands of miles, you've only pulled me in closer."
Elizabeth was either madly in love with him as well — or saw all the free-flight potential in marrying a pilot (we kid, we kid) — because she's down for the long haul too. (Ahem.) Elizabeth said "absolutely" to Evan while people watched and cheered.
There have been some other pretty epic travel-related proposals this year, too. Consider this pilot's proposal mid-flight to his girlfriend, who was a passenger. Captain Dooley Ellis spoke on the intercom on his Qantas flight saying there was a "special passenger" aboard, before asking for her hand in two languages.
And then there was Kornelius Bascombe's big moment. He used his CBS TV producing connections to rent a helicopter and sneak a proposal on his model girlfriend overlooking the Los Angeles skyline. While she thought they were doing a photoshoot, he got down on one knee — just as she threw rose petals for the photo and then saw the ring. Perfect planning is a noted characteristic of jet-setters after all!
