Ever since Hurricane Harvey started ravaging Texas and the surrounding regions, everyday people and celebrities alike have been stepping up and helping out.
We’ve already heard stories of local families taking in dogs and Bravolebs like Southern Charm’s Patricia Altschul donating proceeds to the Houston Humane Society, and now Rachael Ray is pitching in in a major way.
The celebrity chef and animal advocate—who launched her own line of pet food called Nutrish back in 2008—has donated one million dollars raised by The Rachael Ray Foundation to benefit various animal rescues in the affected regions.
“Thanks to your support of our Nutrish brands, we are able to donate $1 million today, through The Rachael Ray Foundation, to help support various animal welfare organizations who are actively working in Texas and Louisiana to care for animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey,” Rachael posted on her Instagram. “$100,000 donations have been made to the SPCA of Texas and Austin Pets Alive!, who are already providing disaster relief to animals in need.”
“We will continue our commitment to work with national and local organizations to assess needs and provide the additional earmarked funds. Thank you to all who are donating their time, effort, and money, as goodwill to our neighbors is most important during times like these.”
The generous donation should come as no surprise to fans of Rachael Ray. She has hosted numerous animal advocacy programs—including Shelter Cats Are Beautiful and the annual Santa Paws campaign—and she speaks frequently about her love of her pitbull Isaboo.
