We were feeling pretty good about our summer vacations until the royal family had to go and out-vacation us.
The French newspaper Sud Ouest reports that Kate Middleton, Prince William, and their brood have winged away on a top-end holiday in southwest France.
Yes, the wee Prince George and Princess Charlotte flew private — of course — as part of holiday that included a stay in the the Hotel du Palais in Biarritz. There, room rates start (yes, start) at nearly $600.
NBD, but included in the hotel’s illustrious history is the fact that 19th-century Emperor Napoleon III and his wife Eugenie de Montijo used the property as their getaway in the summer months.
The property bills its style as “synonymous with an epoch, the Second Empire, which was to establish the reputation of Biarritz as the ‘Queen of Resorts and the Resort of Kings.’” It further advertises that, “today, more than ever, it is this style, neither passé nor pompous but profoundly elegant, that makes the hotel such a jewel in a seaside smiled upon by fortune and fashion.”
The hotel also includes the Michelin-starred restaurant Villa Eugenie, and a spa with spectacular indoor pool and Turkish-style bath.
Though this trip sounds like a tough one to follow, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have plans to travel to Canada in the fall.
