Well-known stoner Snoop Dogg’s recent social media mistake is a major gain for a previously unknown tourism destination.
Indeed, Snoop accidentally tagged the location of a social media selfie as Bogata, Romania — while actually on tour in Bogotá, Colombia.
Bogata — with an "a" in the middle — is actually a place in central Europe where just 2,000 people live. Touristically speaking, it’s not exactly on par with the Colombian city of a similar name — which has been lately experiencing a major tourism boom during a resurgence following its most troubled cartel-controlled days.
Not to let the golden opportunity pass it by, a Romanian media company quickly jumped on the unexpected publicity, launching a website for Visit Bogata to promote the place. (It’s written in English, for Snoop’s fans.)
The impromptu tourism site bills the place as “the best place for chillin’ in Romania.” There are no hotels in town, though, so it does suggest visitors bring a tent or sleeping bag.
The Internet, bless its heart, went nuts over the seriously LOL-inducing mistake. Folks jumped on the meme, editing Snoop into photos of the village.
Even though the rapper behind the song "Who Am I (What's My Name)" might have been more careful about, you know, names, he's also well known for his sense of humor. And he was happy to be part of the joke — once he figured out his mistake.
He shouted out Romania in a followup Facebook post, while comparing himself to famous mistake-maker Steve Harvey, and promising a proper visit.
Well played, Snoop. After all, it aint no fun if the Romanian homies can't have none.
