At this point, Gigi Hadid and her sister Bella are fixtures on the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway. So it wasn’t a big surprise when Gigi announced the news of her casting on Instagram, writing: “Forever and ever and ever a dream come true to be asked back to the VS Show!!”
She might not have been prepared for the angry reaction to her post, though. BuzzFeed reports that Gigi ended up disabling comments after Instagrammers went after her, and it wasn’t over the fact that she’s been cast as a VS Angel. Instead, it’s all about the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’s choice of venue. It’s going to be in Shanghai this year, and commenters haven't forgotten the controversy earlier this year when Gigi was accused of racism against Asians.
It’s all due to a Snapchat video Bella posted showing Gigi holding what looks to be a Buddha cookie next to her face and squinting her eyes to look like the cookie. Now with the VS news, people are writing online that Gigi isn’t welcome in China for the Victoria's Secret show because of the cookie incident, and because she never apologized for it. The Instagram comments are blocked, but here’s what some people are saying on Twitter (besides leaving snake emojis):
According to BuzzFeed, Gigi hasn't commented on the incident since it happened in February. Will she address it before she gets on the brandedVictoria's Secret jet to head to Shanghai?
