When Stevie Wonder had a hankering for peach cobbler, he used to turn to Ella Mae's Soul Food to Go and Catering in Compton, CA. Ella Mae's owners made sure it was part of the dessert selection when they catered brunches for his radio station KJLH, and even brought it to him for an appearance on the morning show Good Day LA.
Ella Mae's has since moved to Houston, and they've just started a Kickstarter campaign to try to raise $50,000 to help the business get off the ground there. The campaign page reveals that the restaurant will have live entertainment from indie bands and from local high school and college students. It also features extreme (really extreme) closeups of the peach cobbler alongside other menu items they'll be serving, like shrimp-and-grits and BBQ chicken. The cobbler looks pretty darned luscious, full of juicy peaches and topped with a generous amount of golden-brown crust.
Incentives to donate include private dinners and an invite to the restaurant's future grand opening. And yes, that peach cobbler is one of the prizes. Donate $25 and get a half-pan of it all to yourself.
