Here's the bad news: Labor Day weekend has come and gone, so summer is unofficially over. Here's the good news: It's a short week, and it's time for pumpkin-flavored everything. (Cheering festively slash rolling eyes.) More good news: There are baby gorillas in the world that are searingly cute and we have pictures so you can look at them.
The annual baby mountain gorilla naming ceremony known as Kwita Izina just passed; that's the event that celebrates Rwanda’s conservation success. There are fewer than 900 mountain gorillas worldwide, and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is home to half of them. So the annual ceremony marks the country's valiant efforts to protect the species from disappearing. (Naming ceremonies are traditional for newborns in Rwanda as they become recognized members of their families.)
There were 22 baby gorillas who were named last week, having officially joined the growing gorilla population in Rwanda. Let's look at some of them and get happy.
Teeny precious eyes!
OMG the fur.
Little fingers in little mouth.
Sweet cozy appendages!
Definitely continue to think about baby gorillas, and not about the end of beach season. Everything will be OK. Happy fall!
