Bravo picks up its newest culinary competition series.

on Oct 26, 2009 - The Dish0

You know, when we announced Top Chef Masters I didn't think I could get more excited for even more Top Chef, but alas, we've done it again. Today, Bravo is proud to announce the pickup of its newest culinary competition, Top Chef: Just Desserts. The series will pit pastry chefs against each other in a series of challenges. As any good Top Chef fan knows, desserts have been, well, a sore spot for our chefs in the past, so it'll be interesting to see chefs whose specialty is pastry. Perhaps we need a competition series for pasta salad cooks as well since that hasn't worked out too well for our Top Chefs either. Anyone? Anyone?

Check back on Bravotv.com soon for casting info!

Oh my! Great point! I was wondering What happened to Erica and Heather. I think the producers are creating drama and rating as they have already decided the winner. Thoughts????

I'm wondering when these judges will finally realize that Danielle just doesn't cut it. It's so disappointing to see her get carried by her team members and two talented pastry chef's (Erica and Heather) get sent home. Her daddy must be a producer because she just hasn't shown any real talent. I'm a pastry chef and watch the show religiously. I want to reach through the television and slap that frown off her face. C'mon judges smarten up and tell Danielle to pack up her tools and GO!

I have to say I enjoy all the top chef shows. This one is particularly sweet! Love Heather C. Don't know what is so special about her to me. I'm from a small town in Texas and one of my fathers best friend was Morgan Wilson. Seeing the resemblence in Morgan Wilson the IV I'm convinced your Morgan must be the grandson of my Morgan. I hope he reads this because I'd really like him to know that his grandmother, Barbara was my 4th grade teacher. I know several members of his family from Bells, Texas, if he is the same Morgan I think he is. At any rate I hope he wins or at least comes in in the top 2. Nancy White Birdwell

I thought I was the only one who thought Seth was crazy but harmless.I have to agree too that he may have talent but really needs to calm down!He did make me laugh too with the running and breakdowns. It does make for great tv.I love Erica, and Zac.They really have their game faces on in the kitchen as they should.I love the reaction everybody has to Seth,it really is hilarious. This cooking show has the spice it needs to return for another season.I will continue to watch what happens next!Oh yeah, while we are joking about Seth, watch him because he may act crazy but its like a fox!!

I love this show!I watch all the cooking shows and this is a good one.My mom and I couldn`t stop laughing at poor Seth!Oh course him running through the kitchen like he was training for a track meet was "hilarious".I think he has talent but is a nevrous wreck! He makes for great tv.I was feeling bad due to a car accident I recently had. When I saw him that pain left for that moment. Now lets recap-Seth has broke down and cried at the Penny candy challenge, went crazy on everyone at the bar,he is scaring Heather w/his bizzare behavior all while not following instructions on what to make(wedding cake)and dedicating things to his sick mom and then vowing to win.Meleka is a meltdown mess, but has the heart to keep trying.Erika is focused,so is Marco and bless all the rest of the contestants this is only week two!Seth I have a suggestion-Prozac w/abilify back!

I want to know where they are shooting from. I watched the first episode and some of the locations looked familiar, but they never said what city they were in! I love Top Chef, and was REALLY looking forward to Top Chef Desserts, but it wasn't as good of a show. (JMO)

Does anyone know how to enter someone into the next cast? My roommate has been an executive pastry chef for a 4 star hotel for many years here in Atlanta. He's also extremely personable (camera-friendly). I think he would be perfect for this show, but I don't know where to start the process. He has a portfolio ... Any suggestions?

I'm really looking forward to this, I think it is a great idea, and a very interesting way to shake up the "Top Chef" series. I love watching anything to do with baking or desserts. For those of us who would happily forgo dinner for dessert, this promises to be deee-lish!

So when is/was the casting for this? I haven't heard anything about this show since it was announced until last week's show. What's the deal?

I only heard about this as a "credit" for Gail, and had NEVER heard so much as a promo for it... it obviously fills a gap in the TC programs, as it is obvious most TCs are not able to DO desserts (especially with time constraints) - Food Ch's challenges are usually multi-houred and produce some impressive pieces. I've always been a talented home cook and made many wedding cakes with inventive designs in many materials/techniques. Now in my 70s, I just love to watch competitions in cooking as well as art, decorating and fashion (I loved doing things in all of those). I still do hand work in Medieval recreations- just made my first pair of 10th cent. leather shoes with a simple silk embroidery and pearls. I'm looking forward to seeing this show with Gail.

This could be cool but the pastry chefs should also be able to cook so it would be cool to see some challenges that take them out of there realm. Or?

Finally a Top Chef for Desserts,

Having watched all of the seasons of Top Chef, and having seen many disasters when it came to making the desserts, I am glad to see that a show is going to be dedicated to the Pastry Arts. I would definitely consider trying out for the show myself.

Having been a pastry chef myself, I am so excited for this show! I'm more of a baker now, running my own business. But still miss the crazy kitchen everytime i watch top chef! can't wait for "just desserts"!!!

I think they need to do a series called Top Chef Amateurs where they get the best home chefs who have never stepped foot in a professional kitchen.

Maybe even start with state competitions and reduce the numbers from there.

I LOVE TOP CHEF!

YAY for a pasta salad quick fire! Pastry chef show should be great. The Food Network competitions are always fun, so a whole Top Chef series on desserts will be awesome. And please bring back Top Chef Masters. It rocked.
