Jewel and Kara DioGuardi to Star in 'Going Platinum'
Bravo announces new singer-songwriting competition series.

Make yourself a can’t-miss sticky note to set your DVR in 2011, because there’s a new singing competition in town. Bravo (that’s us) has just announced production on Going Platinum (working title), a brand-spankin’ new music competition.
But these won’t just be pretty faces karaoking. Musicians must write their own jams in all genres—they’ll need to branch out across the musical universe tackling everything from tear-jerking love ballads to ear-wormy dance tracks.
Jewel (who earned her songwriting chops penning ballads in a van, lest you forget), will mentor the contestants as they vie not just for a record deal with RCA/Jive —but a publishing deal with Sony, BMI Songwriters The Writing Camp, and $100,000 dollars towards all the notebooks they could ever need to hold their lyrical gems in.
Judging the competition will by Kara DioGuardi, who has a bit of practice picking talent from her American Idol days, and her day-job as Executive VP Talent Development, Office of the Chairman (let’s all pat her on the back for discovering Jason Derulo). She’s also an award-winning songwriter, recently netting the 2009 Icon Award from the National Music Publishers’ Association and holding 15 BMI awards and a few Grammy nods under her belt, er, her bikini as it were.
Basically we’re amped. If you need us we’ll be reading A Night Without Armor and attempting to create a song as life-altering as “Hands” until the show starts.

Obviously the auditions were a HUGE secret OR they only invited people from Musician's Institute and Belmont U. and places like that. I would have liked to have know about this too since I have an album coming out and I wrote every song. I'm really disappointed that auditions weren't publicized better. Actually if it's anything like Nashville Star, the contestants are already on Sony's radar. They use these shows to promote the talent they are already developing.
I am soooooooooooooooooo excited about Kara Dioguardi back on music television...I hope she sings a few songs with Stevie Nicks, and gets real with other singers like, Sheryl Crow, and Faith Hill, Pink and Christina & the Judds....I want her to sing on the show with other famous women....I hope she helps inspire other women to be the best they can be, and not be shy...its hard getting in front of an audience and having confidence....let's build up people...not tear them down...the daily news is bad enough, let's uplift people to success in 2011! Since Kara knows Bon Jovi...get him on too BRAVO...livin on a prayer - hope you will...........Beginners feel great hanging around the REAL THING!!!!

I am a 15 year old singer/songwriter. I am a member of Nashville Songwriters Association and I am seriously thinking of making songwriting/producer my career. Where and when are the auditions? If I have missed them for this year, when will they take place for the 2nd season. I know with Jewel and Kara on board this show will be a huge success. Real musicians and real music not like the put on AI show. I am a huge fan of Jewel and Kara... great songwriting mentors!
