The 'Top Chef' veteran didn't expect such a major reaction to her this season.

Josie Malave on Top Chef
With her second go-round on Top Chef, Josie Malave never anticipated the amount of attention, comments and tweets she'd inspire. Some were kind, but many people voiced their criticism of the boisterous chef, be it about her personality, who she outlasted in the competition, her hair -- you name it, someone probably said it. So now that she was sent home and subsequently beat by Kristen Kish in Last Chance Kitchen, how is Josie reflecting on the season?

In an interview with EW.com, Josie says that at first reading and hearing some of the negative things about her stung. "Talk about strong reactions. I didn’t realize that the mention of my name or the introduction of a photo could cause such a riot," she tells EW. "It’s wild, honestly. And it’s cool, too. [laughs] I’m not gonna lie. At first I was a little hurt by the things people were saying. And I had a few conversations with friends and family and they said, 'Josie, really, give me a break. You’re this, you’re that. Don’t let what they say — unless they know you and unless they’ve eaten your food, they should just shut up.'"

Josie says that after controversially moving on while Kristen was sent home during their Restaurant Wars pairing, she was reflective of the situation, but ultimately knew she had to compartmentalize. "You’re gonna have successes and failures and you have to keep your head up and you can’t even let the last challenge affect you. I mean, once the judges make their call, you’ve gotta move on. You can’t second-guess it."

Read Josie's full interview at EW, and if you want to see her move on in Save a Chef, she's going up against CJ Jacobsen -- so vote to keep your favorite afloat!

Josie deliberately sabotaged a good chef.  What you have to remember about competition is that it's judged on merit, and cheating to win is grounds for disqualification. You are  not supposed to be going outside of the rules to win, so to cop out by saying it's a competition is not valid, moral or ethical and should just not be tolerated. Yes she should feel guilty, and ashamed of herself, because if you work to the best of your ability and do not win, that's one thing, but if you lie and cheat and scheme to win and blow off your responsibilities to your team (Restaurant Wars) and people accept that, it's a lowering of standards for us all. Not acceptable. Not acceptable at all.

It is your lack of honesty and good character.  Really, "I have it in the bag,"  You are the entire reason that the girls lost "restraunt war" this year and your attitude was the same as always:  a self love that was not supported by the actual results.  Yes, we did not taste your food, but the judges did and their comments and your reactions are what we go on.  You should have lost by episode 2 and you know it!

People don't like Josie NOT because she can't cook most of the time or how she looks or has an annoying laugh, but because of her lack of honesty, character and integrity in her dealings with other people.  She obviously sabotaged Kristen's kitchen by trying her best to make sure the food did not go out on time or as planned, then had her nerve to put the blame on Kristen for it!!  She took no responsibility and worse, feels no guilt about it!   What kind of person is that?

I have a son who is currently a student at New England Culinary Institute. He has a passion for creating amazing food, so I am not offended by ANY of Josie's behavior. When you have such passion and you want things perfect, it is easy to come off as brash and superior. My son has high expectations for himself in the kitchen and if he were on a team with other chefs who didn't have the same level of committment it would drive him up a wall. Josie has a loud uninhibited laugh, big deal! Laugh on!! Her hair, who cares? This is not a fashion contest. I like her and it would be fun to hang out with her to enjoy some excellent designer beer and appropriate nosh.

Well there is a difference between having a personal style and sabotaging others. I've heard Cheftestants in the past say they weren't portrayed fairly, but the thing Josie (and future Cheftestants) needs to remember is that when you talk ill of others, it's being recorded. If you don't talk ill of others or talk about how you'll "do anything" to win and you "won't feel guilty" because the goal is to win (etc.), that is also being recorded.... Show some class and speak with integrity and there will be no ill will. Josie lost the respect of others not because of her laugh or her hair but because she lacked integrity and even boasted about it to the camera.

josie is the WORST chef on the show. including the chefs who were previously eliminated. she is loud, obnoxious, disgusting to look at and her food is horrific. she completely ruined kristen's restaurant - did not do what she said she was going to, did not keep to a schedule, did not explain that the reason there was no gelatin (and thus no foam) was that she was BEHIND in prepping the sauce and there was no time. she makes me want to scream and vomit and hit her in the face.

Awww.  She just has her own style and she's loud, but so what.  I love Josie and she can cook.  Josie seemed like a good person and that is what matters.  Hold your head up and only listen to your family and those who know and love you.

josie's lack of ethics and integrity and...I'll say it...LYING to the judges about the boulliabase made my stomach turn.  yes she is annoying and obnoxious, but her selfish behaviour at JT which caused Kristen to be eliminated is why ALL her haters are upset! A lie of OMISSION is still a lie!  Josie did not even have the GUTS to say that she was supposed to have started the bones and broth the day before and that she BLEW IT OFF.  On purpose (which I am leaning to believe) or due to poor time management skills, we may never know.  ANDY COHEN PLEASE ASK HER IF SHE DID THIS ON PURPOSE AT THE REUNION SHOW!  Padma wanted to eliminate Stephan for lying to them about the fried chicken!

@Gr8tmommy She never made "amazing" food.  If you disagree, then point out the episode, whether this season or the other one she was on, when one of the judges said she made "amazing" food.  Her constant attacks on others and her unsupported belief in her cooking is so wrong, and make one want to puke.

@KristenMcK I agree, speaking with integrity is always a good rule to live by! Good point KristenMcK

@cba321 Couldn't agree with you more! If Josie wanted fans to speak well of her, she should have conducted herself better - by not talking bad of others, causing problems with her lack of timing, etc.!
